Dude, read a fucking history book! Greece did fight against the Persians, king Leonidas did fight with just 300 man over a million Persians, killing 40.000 before dying. And Xerxes was a Persian ( now Iran ), if you look at the Iranian people you´ll see that they have a darker skin tone, so choosing this actor is only natural.
@2129261184 also, they were around 9000 "Hellenic" soldiers against a force of around 2 millions and the Spartans got pwned by the way, they just killed some Persians because you know, fighting phalanx form the front is not the safest (or a sane) idea (phalanx ftw).

Yes, they lost, but facing and army of 1 million plus soldiers with just 300 and still managing to kill 40.000 reveals how good the Spartans where in terms of combat tatics.
@2129261184 Well, the number "300" is most likely a mistake/exaggerated number (you know, Herodotus tended to exaggerate things), anyway... the Spartans WERE great warriors but not as good as we are told by movies or "romantic" books, their (relative) success (on this fight) was based on the use of the phalanx formation and the advantage of terrain (which was a good strategy to fight with a overwhelming numeric disadvantage) I mean, just look at their shields and imagine a phalanx with that...

Also you realise that the storyline in '300' isn't a symbolic message type thing. Its a historical tale of an event that actually happened. Its was exaggerated a bit to give it extra exitement but the swtory of 300 men leaving to fight the vast army from persa actually happened...
