  • Holy Venezuela this shots amazing

  • if you think this is amazing take a look at "Russian Ark"

  • A nice long steadicam shot - but does it actually progress the story in a way conventional shooting wouldn't? I don't think so. Therefore: it's worthless. There's only two points of value in this: the discussion tracking down the beach at the start and the killing of the horses; and at the end, the walk along the pier/pan behind the soliders - both of which could have been done without steadicam. The rest is them walking around in circles. LOL.

Want MEANINGFUL steadicam? Try "Children of Men".

  • a movie, named Russian Ark was shooted just in one continous shot, by steadicam! The whole film is only one shot!!!

That movie takes about 1,5 hours... Can you guys imagine that?

How many "re shot" did they need?! ( there are many nice pics in there. 2 times they came out from indor, to outdor, while the whitebalance kept correct! Nice midle Kelvin was found:)

  • WELL DONE JOB!!!!

  • the movie is called atonement

  • really , what is the name of the movie?

  • What's the name of the movie this is from?

  • @coccinelsucrer Atonement

  • How the hell do you cast 1300 people? Are you sure there isnt any compositing being done? Would seem much cheaper.

  • @infernoacid Money can do anything.

  • whats the name of the movie?

  • This does nothing for me. If anything it pulls me OUT of the story to think about why there are no cuts in the footage. "ooh, aah", look how good we are, cinematic masturbation.

  • @fluxmuldar Always a pricks like you somewhere to complain

  • @fluxmuldar Hey well lets all get annoyed at other people who actually do excell in some field of work. Asshole.

  • What a fantastic shot. Seriously. Blam. Pointblank. 1:01

  • Technically speaking, you can check also Aleksandr Sokurov's "Russian Ark" ("Russkiy Kovcheg"); the full movie, 99', is filmed in one (unbelievable) single shot :)

  • That is some very sublime camera work right there.

  • That is amazing camera work!

  • A horse....was shot D:

  • wow, such a epic shot! the focus puller on this one just have to be one of the best focus pullers in the biz..

  • hands down... one of the most incredible scene i've ever seen... that one smooth operator!!!!

  • A history question, why were they executing the horses?

  • @Leucotrain To eat?

  • That must have been the most boring horrible day ever for the people on this shot. This setup would take forever to arrange and shoot.

  • @teenPlusthai

    ช่วงต้นๆ ผมว่าผมเห็นรอย AVT นะครับ

  • Holy shit

  • just like children of men. best steadicam ever, in the car <3

  • Thats insane.... The logistics behind this is insane. Most of this is ADR, Foley and then part grade/ post at the end, but the people management would of been incrediable. I'm thinking the only way this could be done is audio cues (basically shouting cues). Where the hell do you put your remote focus puller???? Unless he/ she is also dressed as a soldier.. Just seriously amazing... this is incrediable..... :o)

  • Simply amazing.

  • W O W

    Hats off to Peter Robertson

  • Soo Clever

  • 2:25 fatty almost ruins the entire thing ROFL

  • what amazing actors.(.i mean the horses :)

this reminds me of MLTR someday....i guess its about same length and one take shot....ni ways what brilliant piece of work

  • Amazing. SOPA wouldn't think so though, uploading someone else's property like that!

  • amazing

  • Didnt know Chuck Norris was into filming. badass man !

  • wow the steadicam operator used to be hulk i guess

  • how can i find song on 2:32 ???

  • @donzaliko HALP GAIS HOW DO I GOOGELS?

  • @donzaliko

"dear lord and father of mankind"

  • Comment removed

  • @donzaliko Amazon: "Atonement OST" -->Track 10: Elegy For Dunkirk

  • @johnnyjaxson thats soundtrack name and track's original name is "Dear lord and father of mankind" its old English christian song.

  • Absolutely Stunning, that`s a really looooong clip. hope he did not have to do too many takes to perfect this one....... truly amazing!!!!!!

  • That was amazing, great camera work and great directing. Must be hell to direct so many peoply for one take... And there's so much detial in it! Just amazing!

  • Incredible shot. Amazing. But why do they shoot horses?

  • i would hate to reshoot that

  • proffesor x won the war

  • They shoot horses, don't they?

  • SERIOUSLY!! You're all bitching about a typo of 5.5 meaning 5 mins 30 seconds rather than 5 mins 5 seconds rather than actually discussing how epic this piece of camera work and the scene itself is?? clearly something wrong with you lot.

It's footage like this that makes me want to branch into video work a bit more rather than just photography as it's simply amazing

  • ...they can be glad, that stanley kubrik wasn't the director...take 48..and...action!

  • What is "pulling focus"

  • @Huddiethegreat It's quite simply when you have something in focus and something out of focus, then the thing that was originally in focus goes out of focus and everything else goes into focus. The term 'pulling focus' is used by film makers so they don't have to go into a lengthly explanation with the cameraman about what should be in focus.

    /watch?v=SSLINtkIUhk&feature=channel_video_title

  • why was he pulling focus?? Don't believe that! for sure he had a Focus puller....

  • You've put 'A continuous 5.5 minute shot', which is 5 minutes 30 seconds (5 1/2). This is only 5:09!! Do your maths right!!

  • @TheFilmMaster that means 5 minutes and 5 seconds..

  • @OMERWTF - If it's 5 minutes and 5 seconds, it should be 5.05!!

  • @TheEclipsePictures bad typo.. give it a break brother!

  • Geeeez! Amazing skill of the operator!

  • even after witnessing this i say its impossible!

  • @OMERWTF - Where you there when they filmed this??

  • @TheFilmMaster no but i do wish that i was there..

  • Four takes? That's a whole shitload of film! Thank god for digital cinema.

  • @zakezu

That wasn't Digital medium. That was shot in Kodak film negative (Vision2 100T 5212, Vision2 200T 5217, Vision2 500T 5218), ALWAYS (despite budgetary issues) the better choice !!!

Cameras were Panflexes for the sound and an ARRI 435 for high-speed imagery.

  • There was a focus puller. I've checked. The D.P. was Seamus McGarvey, the steady cam operator was Peter Robertson and the focus puller of this unit was a Moçambican called Carlos de Carvalho.

So, there has been a focus puller indeed.

  • But is a great shot, no doubt...

  • Sorry, but I don't believe in a serious film the operator (specially in a Steady Cam) pulling focus. There must be a focus puller besides him.

    Otherwise, can't be serious...

  • fucking great

  • That was incredible! Simply amazing!

  • This scene is one of the saddest scenes i think..

  • why are they killing horses? =(

  • @Xenon2k,

To be honest i was a bit shocked by that too but i imagine the reality was that once they leave the beach, they would have had no more need for the horses and would have just left them there in which case they would have likely starved to death which is obviously a much more prolonged and painful death then being shot dead. I suppose it does seem kind of evil, but it's more humane then suffering to death..... But that's just my opinion

  • @Xenon2k The British retreated to England from Dunkirk, leaving behind most of their equipment. So that the Germans couldn't use any of it, as much as possible was destroyed - hence why you can see vehicles being disabled and horses being shot.

  • amazing. wonderful workö. a true professional. not a single shaking or so ... must have taken him or her some time .....two thumps up. awesome !

  • i saw hanna yesterday, and joe wright did a fantastic steadicam shot again! (this one's still the best though.) he's now totally one of my fave directors.

  • Wao!

  • Left speechless. Tis a work of art, a shot like this. This Peter Robertson certainly knows how to fly a rig.

  • reminds me a lot of Children of Men.

  • fantastic

  • i dont thing they could have possibly done this better

  • In the beginning of the shot I thought "the actors walk on the sand, but the steadicam op walks over 4x8s plywood". Then I started counting "that's 1 sheet of plywood, that's 2 sheets of plywood...that's 3...5...21..38..hmmm..not...there is no plywood.

  • pure gold!

  • Wow...

  • really nice........

  • Apparently according to IMDB it was due to be shot in two days this sequence, but the lighting on the beach wasn't right so it got changed into a single camera take

Apparently the Steadicam guy collapsed during the final take, he didn't complete it

  • OMG..That's amazing!

  • I think the scene was amazing not the steadicam shot... that was normal walking and turning

  • @planetrics over sand and various obstacles, up stairs, threw smoke, and still managed to keep it smooth, also the whole time he was pulling focus...

  • wonder how much was spent for this 5 minutes shot.. all those extras, animals, costumes, makeups, hair, vehicles, e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g!

  • So, so mental.

How do you even walk so quickly and that frickin far, over terrain like that carrying so much weight? let alone actually controlling a fiddly aparatus with pinpoint accuracy...

  • @flegolas I don't know why the info says the operator was pulling. there was definitely an AC working follow-focus.

    incredible work regardless

  • @nyumetsu Yeah there's no way/reason for the operator to be pulling this shot.

  • Lamento no estar de acuerdo, pero todo en este plano es falso, de hecho es uno de los peores planos con steadicam que ví en mi vida. Todo es mentira.

Y en Russian Ark, el steadicam dura toda la película (100 min.)

  • look at the guy hanging on the ferris wheel - 3.24

  • @robertorodriguezBE

    Wtf is he doing!? :D

  • @robertorodriguezBE he's trolling

  • infuckingsane

  • What an operator what a staging !!! amazingly shot ... true master piece

  • Absolutely stunning

  • amazing!

  • great job!!! really amazing

  • From the film "Atonement"
