A magnatron needs to be connected to the rest of the stuff inside the mic its a very dangerous thing to try but you can take everything out of the houseing, the capacitors and the magnatron, defete the saftey switch (just cut it out ans bypass the leads) and it will work well, just please, do not be near it when it is operating, it will throw loose microwave frequency everywhere. Id hate to see Dovtastic microwave himself.
WillowFox, I tried build a free microwave before but could not locate the saftey switch. I was trying to microwave some 6' long flourecent lightbulbs with the assembly. It failed. Do you have a picture schematic you can email me?
I do not have a schematic, however I know the switch is in the door latch on the frame (useually) My grandfather mounted the guts of a microwave to a rife stock, and showed it to me, I didnt know what it was until he cooked a pumpkin with it in the yard on halloween "I'm buck rogers!" great. just watch out I have no idea how much loose microwave I absorbed when he did that lol
Try looking up the technical specs for a normal GE Mic on google, you should be able to finnd some schematics easily.
That is crazy WillowFox. As long as you were behind the device your father built you shoud be fine but I would not do that again if I where you. If I create something like that, it will be in a fully protected area on remote switch. I have always wanted to microwave those 6' long ceiling flourecent light bulbs but have never found a large enough microwave. This would make for a great light show.
Why not just cut holed straight through one microwave, put it in the middle, and two end microwaves and then build them into a 3 sided long box, with a window so we can all watch the show?
WillowFox, I have tried stuff like this. I still get microwave vibration against the camera from leakage. That is the primary challenge. I need to airm the microwave into a solid barrier or wall and establish a clear view to the camera of the item being microwaved between the barrier sheild and the camera. The vibrations are the biggest challenge but i am working on trying to reduce the vibrations against the camera.
What about using he glass from the microwave ovens? its got a lead screen in it and if you shoot microwave along it not directly at it it should be ok id assume. Maybe you can get ahold of some one in the area that can build a box for you, or even make a refrigerator sized microwave or a walk in, it would be the first ever.
I have always wondered about it, and I am sure many other do it too, ; the glowing microwave on your shoulder in the intro- what is being microwaved there? A lightbulb?
I could watch this show for 1000 years. There's always some new kind of surprise to be unveiled! Also, totally awesome close-ups of that giganto-humongous grass hopper :D
At 1:33 i though i ripped one,,,ump nope,,,just the vid...still smells funny in here though

Kenny, might I recommend doing more of these electrical type videos? These things are way cool!
Crashdance22 2 years ago 4
Dove, Dove, Dove.... tsk tsk.
All you're doing is shorting the power line (mains) and melting a cord.
There's no microwaving taking place here...
The magnetron needs just 3VAC input on its filament leads, and then from filament FA to ground (case) it needs 3000VDC.
If you want to really "microwave" without a microwave, you also have to use the high voltage transformer, HV capacitor, HV diode and magnetron.
Then apply mains to the primary of the HV transformer.

you didnt switch the fan on in the one ton microwaving robot...you silly fool.

You did it wrong! Seems that you have connected the heating to the mains. You need both. Heating current and the high anode voltage.

I wonder what will happen if you were to go up in a plane with a micrwave then chuck it out the window and watch it fall down?
You should try this or try chucking one from a clif or tower block
Would be cool to watch.

I always wondered what would happen if you did that. I still say you should make a magnetron ray-gun to properly make microwaving art
