It's probably a bit late since you posted this a month ago but you *can* edit your deck, you just can't remove/change the core cards in it. So it's pretty much just an 'add on to a base' situation.
thats awful though, because if you just add cards to your deck without takeing other cards out (and not adding lands) then your deck becomes less efficient. Which will make you perform worse. Also has anyone else noticed that the computer opponents never get mana-screwed?
It is a bit. Out of the 17 unlockable cards or whatever though I probably only added about 5. Most of the cards you unlock are the deck's 'gain health when you use a spell' cards. I guess the game expects you to stack them?
And yes the computer is extremely suspicious. Great draws all the time, never mana hungry, etc, etc.
Magic the gathering online is a computer game where you buy cards online and make your own decks and such. its actually pretty good. this game however is a waste of money unless you like NOT having the option to edit decks.
There's 8 custom premade decks. You play to unlock almost 300 cards as you go along. I believe you can swap out 17 cards to your own liking into the premade decks. I know this will turn off the hardcore - that's what MTG:Online is for. This game is 10 bucks! That 17 card customizing allows for unique enough decks to enjoy. More importantly keeps the game balanced and fun every game you play.
For all the options you get in this game - I can't believe it's only 10 dollars. Crazy.
Finally, someone who understands the value of the game. While it does suck that there's not customization options like the Shandalar game, this game seems to be more aimed at getting people into magic. Even so, I'll love playing this and playing MTGO when I want the full deckbuilding experience.
You can't respond to damage on the stack anymore... but there won't be a lot of cards that could have profited off such shenanigans (Mogg Fanatic etc. aren't in). Too bad, because those kind of tricks allowed for the best high-level Magic games!
the reason for the change in the combat rules in Duels is due to the fact that next month with the release of 11th Edition, wizards is actualy changing the rules in the game. combad damage will no longer use the stack so you cant put damage on the stack, and do something befor the damage resolves.
the game will essentualy have the exact rules that magic will have in July, when 11th edition becomes Standard legal on its official release date
no you cant. if the guy gets sacrificed befor damage resolves, than hes obviously not about to be arround to do his combat damage. makes sense whenyou think about it.
i can remember pre-sixth Ed. rules and when people complained about the changes than. just go over to the Duels Xbox360 board on gamefaqs. i posted up all of the newer rules changes for 11th, if you havnt seen/heard of them yet.
I think what he's referring to isn't sacrificing and still being able to do combat damage, he's referring to before combat damage is dealt, sacrificing your creature to trigger a damage-dealing effect, such as "sacrifice: do 1 damage to target creature or player", for example... And it does seem to be the case, that you can't do that...
Though if these decks we're limited to don't focus around tactics involving starting combat and then sacrificing for damage mid-combat, might not be bad...
Hopefully that's just in campaign. It won't go over well if you can't customize further in the online multiplayer. If it is all of the game, they'll likely change it quickly with the amount of complaints they'll receive.
you can't do anything after or during damage on the stack well! WTF dude!! it's us five color assholes that like to drop volcanic fallout when needed! thanx magic!
It is pretty shiny looking, and it's cool that Wizards is trying to branch out to bigger audiences, but even if console gamers buy this what they'd be experiencing is in no way similar to real MTG with a friend.
I wish they'd stop trying to mess up their awesome game and leave well enough alone.
the cool thing about this game though is that it finally shows the difference between putting a spell into play and casting it don't you think? people get to confused on that.
"in no way similar" is a gross exaggeration. Learning a few advanced stack tricks isn't going to be tough for someone who understands the rest of the game.
Or a Planeswalker that simply hasn't been printed yet. When the game was first announced, Sarkhan Vol, Tezzeret, and Elspeth all had not been printed yet, but they were in the game. Look at the earlier videos, like the Berlin video.
Player 1 declares attackers, 2 declares blockers. Player 1 then can use ablilities/instants. I'm assuming player 2 can as well. Is player 1 then unable to play interupts after player 2 plays instants/abilities?
I believe he means you can't wait until damage is on the stack and the activate abilities/play cards. Like say you might with your bottle gnomes for example.

Does anybody know if its all basic lands or are there some sort of duals (pains, trips, etc.)?

they should have at least made the option to play full deck mode. Than again maybe thats what that unlock full game option meant.
vvolfflovv 2 years ago
Do you think that with time this game will be able to buy your own cards and make your own deck list? If so then i will buy the game.

Seems good for people like me who spend time playing the free trial of MTGO. Plus you get a foil Garruk for buying the game.

Um if you can't make your own deck it fails.

So you can't say sacrifice a creature to trigger an effect and still do damage?
I'm sure that's going to cripple quite a lot of decks.. Including some of mine! Dammit...

Magic is an extremely complicated game, and a few shiny tricks doesn't change the fact that it takes a WHILE to learn!
