I never use a macro lense for anything else but macro photos, so I don't care about the noise and speed. When I'm takeing macro photos, I got plenty of time to set everything up. Don't need to say I like my Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro.
For portraits I use a 28-80mm lense, or my 55-200mm dpending on the circumstances.
@svtcontour ... well if you going to buy a macro lens you should know that the af is unintersting... i guess that tamron makes the best macro lens for that kind of cost
@MusicScoutMunich Yes but macro lenses can also make for pretty decent portrait lenses, so autofocus speed is nice to have. The canon is more money (here in canada its $500 for the Tamron and $620 for the Canon) but I'd rather spend the extra for the focus speed.

Try sneeking a shot whith that! It sounds like landing gear on a 747.
However it does have a reputation for being a great lens.

Wow I was going to buy this, but I think I will spend the extra and go for the Canon 100m USM after seeing this.

Slow & Noisy, WOW!
But for the price... who can complain!
shadowblack1987 2 years ago
hehe this lens can be as noisy as it wants to be, because it's a legendary lens, and one of the sharpest glass you'll ever put on a camera.
whitecottonglove 2 years ago
but it's still noisy, end of point.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
not as sharp and fast focusing as the canon 100mm f2,8 usm macro
mixmaxdix 2 years ago
Yea, but the glass is super sharp. Usually for macro work you use manual focus.

noisy fucker

there's no other sound in the video to make a comparison... the level of the background noise suggests it's not THAT loud
