Yea... typical commuter on a fixed gear pretending to be a courier.
You missed a curb jump @ 3:38 to continue instead sitting idle and I was so unimpressed at that point I stopped the video.
Your average speed was a measley 25 km/h, try averaging 35-40 and blowing through lights. Watch the video "Bike Messengers are on Crack" for a far Far FAR superior fixed gear inner-city riding video.
Sorry, but you have to be a BIKE MESSENGER to RIDE like a messenger.
@keklolgloat@keklolgloat I'm not pretending to be a courirer but I'm a cyclist. I did this video years ago when I was rookie with track bike... I did this: stuttgart-barcelona in 10 days with a fixie and milan-figueras in 8 days...
@keklolgloat Your a fucking tool dude like who are you to be telling people what they should adverage lol like your some random creep over the internet. Who would listen to you honestly? You prob aren't a messenger either. I live in philly and work for heaven sent and i respect anyone on any bike.
@keklolgloat Yeah stop being a douche. If you are a bike messenger (i don't know are you are ot not), nobody cares. That's not something you can shove in someones face. You're just like the typical anti-hipster dickheads that have such low self-esteem that they need to put other people down just to make themselves feel good.
@keklolgloat Just wanted to add 15mph-25 i the city is a good speed to ride at in the city because in a flat city reaching 30 on track you gunna get hit on day and that aint too good
Maybe you should get yourself some brakes. It'd probably be faster than making stupid evasive maneuvers onto the sidewalk every minute because you skid-stop about as well as you ride in a straight line.
Traffic is such a stand still in NY A bike is a very reasonable way to get around.
Not only is this video scary, it is also impressive.
I could assume the adrenaline rush during the ride and after every intersection and tight lane between car mirrors is at major highs. I would love to give it a try.
i had an asshole open his car door while i was on a tight lane like that. and even if i did ride with brakes, it probably wouldnt have made a difference, so you gotta be careful brakeless or not.
im a cyclist, you know how fucking annoying it is when a car cuts you up and pulls out well aggressively in front of you. whats with your behaviour at 2.50?
That's part of the danger i guess. But the fixie thing is nothing more than a trend. Most of these people will put the bike down once they grow tired of it or when the fixie trend isn't in anymore. A true cyclists is going ride any kind of bike any time. A bike is a bike and doesn't make any difference.
Consider me a false cyclist then. How come the fixie trend ain't dead yet? It's been a "trend" for how many years now? The fixie shop where I live keeps selling fixies and I keep seeing them everywhere...
Part of the experience of riding these kinds of bikes is not to use brakes. Instead you rely on skills to stop the bike. But i do agree in at least one brake either on the front or back. It just for quick stops. You never know when you have to do it and your in a tight situation.
I ride fixed gear daily to work, and for fun in weekends. I started out with a front brake for tight situations and used it a few times. But the more I got used to utilizing the fixed gear's unique stopping methods, the less I grabbed the brakes. After a while I noticed that even when being suddenly cut off, the reflex to pull the brake lever just wasn't there anymore. When I bought a track frame without brake holes, I just left them off as I hadn't touched the lever in months.
And don't get me wrong, I don't ride like and idiot and love life more than being a cool guy. I've also passed the age where I need to show off. It's just that when you're really used to a fixed gear bike, the break doesn't make sense anymore. A bad trend nowadays is that even people not comfortable on the bike yet, already ride brakeless. And yes, that's dangerous.
Its called a Fixie... Only way you can slow down is to either use your feet (slow down in pedalling) or put your feet down (although both are not really that effective...)
When doing this job you don't plan on braking. Time is money, risks are taken non stop.
@keklolgloat Just go ride your bike like everyone else. Judgment is for the insecure.

Why the fuck don't you have brakes? That's just plain stupid.
jimmyriba 1 year ago
@jimmyriba
cause its a track bike... you can stop it without using brakes since the drivetrain is fixed and cannot coast.
its illegal at most tracks to ride with a brake, so in tradition many street riders elect to ride brakeless... its fun.

dicko6ft7 2 years ago
having 47t chainring is a good place to start as its a prime number so you have the same number of skid patches as your cog has teeth

i was only sayin that cos thats wot i do cos i run a 48 16 but am changin to 42 17 its just a way insted of spendin money

@roccomala Anyone can learn to brute force a big gear like that, but it takes skill to spin a small gear, especially on downhills.
