  • This song was popular on the radio when I was going through one of the most deeply depressed periods of my life. I thought of ending it all, once and for all. But somehow whenever this song came on the radio, I was uplifted to the point I could go on for another day.

I bought the album and from then on, whenever the blues would come knockin', I'd play this song and slowly I'd shake it and move on. Thank God for Wet Willie music power and "Keep on smilin' til the sun comes out again y'all..."

  • but William Hall is my son...!

  • my husband of 40 years passed away 11/18/11 and loved this song, talk about laughter through the tears

  • No truer words to live by. I grew up in the 70's, and the song still makes sense today, funny thing how things change , but stay the same.

  • Very cool song.

  • My wife asked me to get some beach music together for the last day of school last year. She teaches at a K - 5th grade school. The music was for a summer theme for the kids and was playing loud as the parents were picking the kids up outside that day. I added this classic from my high school days and forgot about the "you're just hanging out in a local bar and wondering who the hell you are" part. Went over like a lead balloon........oops. I don't get to pick the music this year!

  • This is one of those classic rock songs that people will always love and appreciate! BobbyK

  • Wet Willie was not one of the more popular southern rock bands but I think they were great.I found out about them from a Charlie Daniels song"the south going to do it again".Their music has a funk feel to it but not on this song.

  • @Big77Jim I think it's just the vocals that take away from the funk feel. Just listen to the band play... It's a very funky groove.

  • This is my favorite song. It reminds me of sitting in this one old bar in St. Louis, when I was 23, married, having an affair. It was what I remember what I played on the jukebox to keep on smiling!

  • This is my favorite song. It reminds me of sitting in this one old bar in St. Louis, when I was 23, married, having an affair. It was what I remember what I played on the jukebox before finally losing it. HAHAHA keep on smiling!

  • hey

  • Keep smiling. God loves you and so do I. I'm a retired USAF MSgt (22yrs) as of 2007 and a Religion major. My first wife left me for a friend too so I can relate to that hurt, but life is still worth smiling about.

What do I smile about? That I am only on temporary duty here and that my home is in Heaven. I hope to see you there when our mission here is done my friend.

  • @LesPaul4689 God bless you, Brother! Thank you for your service to our country! You were there when I couldn't be. • @LesPaul4689 ty les for serving and keep on smiling bro!

  • When I was in the army, this guy, Montana, sang this song constantly. He finally nutted up and they came to take him away. We all knew they were coming, so when they took him out of the billets and placed him in the MP cruiser, every window in the place flew opened, & Wet Willie blared out the boy's song. I imagined he smiled all the way to Leavenworth. Guess you had to be there.

  • @jeffdavis55 Wonder where he is today...Probably still smilin'! Thank you!

  • @jeffdavis55. I THANK YOU for youe service. Its funny how some songs can bring back so many memories good and bad. Wet Willie was one of my first rock concerts. They are great. Thanks. B

  • @jeffdavis55 This guy has always rocked the house. He was a singin fool baby!!!!

  • @jeffdavis55 life is a trip...thanks for sharing that page of your experience..I enjoyed it..

  • @jeffdavis55 No, you didn't have to have been there. That is perfect.

  • Great song, I used to get this song mixed up with J. Geils Band's "Give it to Me" when I was younger

  • @LesPaul4689 Carry on my wayward son, There'll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest. Don't you cry no more. It was A hard way to spend A youth but a lot of those brothers are here now, seek them out! their understanding is the tonic that will allow you to heal. Know too that these days, we know they blamed it on the warrior, but it was our government who did wrong. God Bless and heal you! war is hell is only half the story, so is living with it. Love from the people.

  • @bigfootskitty well said

  • @bigfootskitty wowo..I like u guys. I popped in here to play the song and I read ..

  • @LesPaul4689 Thank you for your service. keep on smiling :D

  • @LesPaul4689 Thank you for your service Sir!

  • i know the lead guitar player

  • Could some of y'all mosey over to the Front Porch Republic blog? Because there you will find some people who could tune in to some of the old things you and I miss about neighborliness and about America NOT being an empire (which is not to say being an international doormat for people to wipe their feet on, okay!). Read the essays of Wendell Berry, read Bill Kaufmann. There is still hope for America. For foreign policy, Andrew Bacevich. Come home America!!

  • I could do allot more SMILING if people would just lighten up man!Let me smoke, drink, eat, sleep and die in peace.

  • this song was made for a man named harrison petrie:)

  • @Tessa9276 how do u no this....my uncle is the lead guitarist and ill ask him

  • My bro and family just left on a Delbert McClinton cruise on Holland America from Ft.Lauderdale and Jimmy Hall is a featured performer along with Raul Malo (former lead singer of the Mavericks)....damn I wanted to sail with them...good tunes.

  • @LesPaul4689 You keep on smiling brother. Were smiling with you. Its guys like you who have allowed me to sit here and enjoy the freedoms of this republic. Thanks. A lot.

  • @LesPaul4689 what a great story, thanks for sharing that. We all have something simular I suppose. What a help a lil song can make

  • lespaul keep on

  • Great song . Saw them in 72 with Freddie KIng and Beck Bogart and Appice at the Sports Arena in San Diego . A great time was had by all .

  • "Keep on smiling through the pain" What else is there?

  • @Db60Dc19 now days, expecting the feds to regulate the pain

  • @LesPaul4689 ...

Once again, in different words ...your sacrifice is beyond anything I

will ever be able to imagine, Dear Sir.

You must know that I cant see the keyboard bescausof the tears comming out of eyes

  • PS . My father, his 2 brothers, and my moher's 2 brothers served and "saw action" in WWII ..., for WHAT???

  • @time2act1001 we all have to make sacrifices that we all don't agree on

  • @LesPaul4689 ..

    Dear Sir,

I feel your pain. No/ war /'lottery" system as put in place.

The 2X's I was subjected to "it" my # was over 200. Imagine! My father, George W. Carroll

decorated /WWII vet flyer US ARMY air corps/both "theaters" ie: a carrier in the Pacific

and out of Southhampton England.... THE Slaughtr? the Battle of the Bulge.... "Bomberder take control"

His brother told me why I and my brothe had to go upstairs when "12 O'clock High" came on TV.

  • I was a "supposed" security person hired by the local gymn, for an outdoor "festival" around '76 near Troy, NC. We ended up drinking most of the beer we we suposed to be guarding, Marshal Tucker never came out of their bus in the pouring rain to play, and thousands of people trashed the stage in the rain. Wet Willie was the last good band to play in the rain-they were dedicated partyers & players back then-

  • SOUL, these guy's laid it down. Sly Stone should do this today. Educate!

  • These 7 folks must be frownin'. Billboard's #66 hit of '74. Sound advice from Jimmy Hall and the boys, right, gang? God bless!

  • Six people can't keep smilin'.....

  • THIS IS A GREAT SONG ! I LIVE BY IT !>>>>

    God Bless You All

  • Toke it and Keep on Smillin'

  • I'm 14 and I would love to smoke a reefer to this one. :D

  • @ironmaiden6ification At 14, Most of the kids I know would love to smoke A reefer to any of 'em. and because the time is between 4:19 and 4:21, and probably because " The last one's gone already" and cause you can't take it home or mom will smell it, "she went to college and she knows, man!" SEE Smoke two joints!

  • thanks, hun!! keep on smiling!! love it!!

  • KEEP ON SMILING what the hell else can u do these days AH HA HA

  • G g

  • the lead guitarist is my guitar teacher haha

  • Wet Willie opened for Grand Funk Railroad in June 1974 @ The Fourm in Los Angeles...what a great concert!

  • Absolutely love this song. Brings back memories of a simplier time.

  • Friend of mine said that he was hitch-hiking in the rain once in Norfolk, Va., and this car pulls over, it was Jim Hall! This was wayyyyyyy back in the mid-70's. Keep on Smilin'

  • To all the rockers-i lived in the Blue Ridge in the 70's,Wet willie,Marshall tucker.Allman Bro's.Emmie Lou Harris +that butt kicker shine and that all american home grown made for excellent times. Wish I could take you'all on that fabulous times...

  • seen them with heart in dothan alabama in79,in the civic center, cool concert...

  • Always have loved this song.

  • This is a true Feel Good song, but check out their earlier stuff...

  • The most optimistic song ever written...love you Jimmy Hall

  • Do you have the song airport? Would love to hear it!!

  • "Yeah you're, you're 'bout to go insane

    'Cause your womans playin' games

And she says that you're to blame"

Great lyric because that is true, so true about women in general.

  • I saw these guys as the opener for War back in the day. Fleetwood Mac (Bob Welch era) was the second band. Great concert. Wet Willie kicked ass!

  • My bro went on a Delbert McClinton cruise and said Jimmy Hall was the coolest dude ever.....southern fried rock still kicks ass.

  • I was a young turk when this came out, but even then I knew that I was being drenched in a magical wave of incredible creativity. It was definitely a better time. We actually enjoyed each other; what a concept. Pre-Reagan was sweet.

  • @bibsrenza You know, that last sentence that you wrote is dead on, and what i've been thinking for a very long time. Not really the political aspect of that thought, at least not directly. But you are one million percent correct. Pre-reagan. Pre-Reagan was a people that were relaxed and loved VW bugs, now they're uptight and drive BMW's. Pre-Reagan was a time where you would stop and talk to your neighbor, now it's you can't be bothered. I could go on and on. And it's not getting better

  • @PlanTonto

Thanks for understanding. Sometimes it is hard to reflect on where we were in relation to where we are. Ronnie and his troops fooled a generation of Americans to believe the country would be better off if we put ourselves first. Our collective soul has been damaged. Maybe beyond repair. In the end, it is all about people. I like the VW bug reference. Can you remember meeting total strangers who smiled and shook your hand? People in the 70's were quick with a joke and a kind word

  • @bibsrenza thats kinda sad. being an 80s baby i never knew a world like that. but i still love great music like this.

  • @blamsamblam87

It is better to have rocked and lost then never to have rocked before. Seriously, it is probably inconceivable to imagine, but we grew up in a warm time. There was a mutual respect and togetherness that has vanished. Now we have Wall Street, tea-baggers and the NRA: everyone is too busy beating their chests and being tough guys.

  • @bibsrenza you have to be the dumbest sob in the world. do us all a favor and kill yourself

  • @getdrunkgethi420 You drank Ronnie's kool-aid, didn't you. You are a prime example of the ugly American. Thanks for being exhibit A. Go back to your rifle range-tough guy.

  • @bibsrenza your a prime example fo why ther is no america, you freedom hating hippie. go kill yourself, literally, do it.
