  • Your movements leave you off balance.. your pass through steps leave your feet criss crossed.. your attack technique is very uncoordinated... Keep your feet shoulder length in a squared box stance with your weapon foot back.. Relax your arms and stay loose but agile. Rest the spear in both hands keeping weight 50% 50% on BOTH FEET. I am enlisted in the only medieval sword fighting class in north America.. my teacher has numerous black belts in eastern and western martial arts

Weeell, this is just a friendly little spear bout, by people who usually practice longsword fencing. It was Andreas first time holding a spear, and Mikaels third time sparring, I believe. So yes, there is quite a bit of work to do...

Crossed steps are kosher though, if you really check the sources. Although, it can certainly be done better. I don't agree about the foot stance you describe though. Meyer certainly goes wider, as does Mair.

But, the ONLY medieval sword fighting class in North America? I know of more than 80 groups practicing medieval and Renaissance fencing in the US alone.

Black belts in WMA? Never heard of it in any of the 270 groups worldwide I know of... Which group are you associated with?

Btw, any clips of your spear fencing you can share? We're happy to study and discuss any material. :)

  • Btw, here is a list of the known HEMA/WMA groups. A fair estimate is that there are at least 8.000 practitioners right now, worldwide.

hroarr d o t c o m Stupid YT blocks proper links... But check the front page for the "HEMA Census".
