Strongbad73 the Ultima did a 1min9,9. Fxx did a 1min10.7. That;s quite a nice advantage, almost ten seconds in ten laps I think you'll find.

@llsupercar Consider this, the Ulitima is a 50k car while the FXX is a 800k car. You can build more power by swapping in a better engine, now with the LS9 out I'm sure they will find their ways into Ultimas around the world.

DBR9 & F1 car are race cars and the Capparo basically is... All on slicks. None driven to circuit (hence why they were not included in the lap times board on TG). Also Ultima now lapped in 1:9.9, beating FXX with ease...

Actually you'll find the F1 car wasn't on slicks coz it was damp and T1 was also not on slicks.

the caparo t1 featured on the show was a pre-development prototype that had a lot of problems. hence the fires. The production caparo t1 of course could negotiate speed bumps , else it won't be in watch?v=UeZ5nM4nL28,and driven on the porthole filled english roads by evo. It had an adjustable ride hide for road/track performance.

And the bugatti veyron also had a non-speedbump clearing rideheight in topspeed mode. Thats like saying the topspeed set by the veyron is not valid.

It's too bad because IIRC the other brit car show Fifth Gear had it on there, I think Tiff Needel was driving it.

As far as I know, by the time this video was posted, 3 cars had already beaten this time and had done so for a little while. The Aston Martin DBR9, Renault F1, and Caparo T1. Don't know when the Ferrari FXX had beaten it, I think it was after this video was posted.

Why don't they just stick a couple of headlights and indicators on the front of Thrust 11 or whatever the current world land speed record holder is called, put some 'grooved' tyres and put the top speed for a road legal car to bed once and for all and then we can get back to debating actual great cars. If you've ever watched drag racing between a jet car and a dragster, the dragster always whoops the jet cars ass because they arent meant for 0-60 speed OR cornering of any kind.

You are right. You cannot buy a Ferrari FXX and it is not road registered so it was trailered to Topgear circuit and driven by former F1 champion M Schumacher. And still, a kit car, Ultima GTR driven to and from the circuit and not by a professional racing driver, beat it thoroughly. It is all on the Ultima website.

@Otakahunt Schumacher was one of the main men behind the whole FXX project. He test drove it and worked with the engineers to perfect it. The FXX is Schumachers baby, if he was there at the studios you can be damn sure he was the guy most qualified to get the best out of it.

Enough reason to believe it was him driving and not the Stig??

Schumacher appeared as the Stig in the same episode as the FXX. Schumacher was one of the brains behind the FXX and the one featured on the show was Schumachers own, that's why he drove that lap.

The real Stig is a much duller reveal.......although he did apparently train the SAS in evasive driving!

The Ultima was driven on the road to the track unlike the caparo which they trailer evertywhere, says a lot about the fact that the Ultima is really a road car and will clear all speed humps. Ultima also has air con, stereo, luggage compartments and so on. Oh and Ultima is around £200,000 cheaper than the caparo.....
