2- create an account on your computer that does not have admin rights (makes it harder to exploit your system).

3- Install and anti-virus and firewall that have Buffer overflow protection.

4- delete any emails that comes from users you don't know.

5- do not download any applications that come from untrusted sites.

you don't have to download apps. If they want it bad enough they can get whatever they want. for example, they can create an exploit for your browser that will compromise your system without you even downloading an app.
