The spirit of the 1990's is very much embodied in the vary sound and animation of this and other BIOS screens from the same era. By far, the PS1 boot sequence is the best sound. The best music is probably this BIOS. The Japanese version is good but I think this one is better.
Sounds better on a real Sega CD model 1 than on whatever emulator is being used here. Still not a great tune, but nearly the ear grating mess presented here.
I've had that simple intro stuck in my head since I was 10. Largely because of the amount I times I reset at that point trying to get the damn thing working.
This is, by far, the most superior of any console BIOS that I have ever seen.
To wit, the visuals and even the audio have a sort of "Demoscene" feel to them: showing off several of the rotation/scaling capabilities of the hardware as well as the extended PCM channels. This is a hardware tech demo and a badass boot screen.
Once upon a time the Sega US marketing team was afraid that Americans would respond negatively to the music and graphic styles of Europe and Japan, so they were changed from the stylized atmosphere/abstract to a picture of the Earth, as well as changes in music.
Sonic CD suffered from the same problem as well, as you can tell the US soundtrack departs greatly from normal Sonic style.
@rcmerod52 I didn't know that. After all, I've never played Sonic CDin my life. As a matter of fact, I've never played a Sega CD/Mega CD game in my life.
Sounds like Gunstar Heroes.

Screw the games, I'll just listen to the bios screen.
The one console that is better without a game in it.

I somewhat LOL at the randomness the Sega CD logo and Sega logo do.
Jumping around the screen.... dancing in space.. XD

Music on the Japanese/ European one was better. This is way too... commercial sounding.
I also prefer the Japanese Mega CD logo!

Yeah, the European and Japanese music is meh, boring. This is the best one for Sega CD.

I prefer the music on the Mega CD startup screen, why did Sega have to change it for the US market? Oh well.

Well I guess we get things that Japan doesn't get or something like that.
