This week has been huge for the Great Park Society! The Environment Court has released an interim decision on the Long Bay Structure Plan that largely supports our efforts to protect the landscape and environment of Long Bay and Okura.

The Judge has advised that he will most likely
make an interim decision on the case. This means that he will make a decision based on the principles and concepts of the case, and will not look at detail until later. It is
expected that the interim decision will come out in the middle of 2008.

consideration is being given to the protection of the extensive heritage landscape on the Awaruku headland. This archaeological landscape is located on the ridge directly to the west of Long Bay Beach. The area comprises many Maori archaeological sites layered over each other, dating back to 1450. Overlaid on this is an extensive ditch and bank system, which is an early colonial farming system of fencing.....
An update on the court case which was held in July. With so much information presented in the three week trail, the Judge has extended the trail for a further two weeks commencing 9th October 07. Two important points that were brought up, that there is a need for a significant buffer between the Long Bay Regional Park and any development to help to protect the Marine Reserve and .....

I have ask the above member to elaborate further regarding his comment and I'm yet to hear from him. I can only assume that he works for the development company - Land Co. Who are currently in a court case against The Long Bay Great Society. This case finishes at the end of the month. This will decide the outcome of the land at Long Bay.
