It's really not that lucky to be half-Korean in Korea... the younger generation doesn't mind us so much, but the older generation does. We are not very welcome there, and it's even worse for the half-Koreans that look more Asian. In all honestly it's easier to live in Seoul as a full Korean or a full white person.

If you are half you generally aren't considered Korean so they look down on you, it's pretty much as simple as that. Same with the Japanese, if you aren't full Japanese you aren't Japanese, you are American, or whatever other country it is that you came from.
@pettiroso For Koreans I know it's largely a matter of Korean pride, my mom and best friends mom think that Korea is better than anywhere else in the world... though being in America staunched the whole Korean/Not Korean thing especially since we are half. We do however get criticized on how American our accents are though when we speak Korean.

RACISM will always be an issue! I am 1/2 and my asian side disowned me from birth.I never had grandparents and have been made fun of growing up. Trust me, I'm 25 & I live in the south. Growing up in the 90s before anything Japanese/anime/manga/video games became popular, I caught A LOT of shit. Blatant racism. It wasn't just "white" people that gave it either. Life gets better but not because "other people" start accepting you.

I am also half korean and half white however for whatever reason i dont look asian at all. Most of the time i get italian, hawaiin, hispanic, indian, basically everything im not (korean, irish, scottish). I think you take after the asian half a little more. I once had a boy ask me "if your dad is white and your mom is yellow why are you so brown" My response was there is this thing called tanning, i just walk outside. aja aja fighting :)

It's really not that lucky to be half-Korean in Korea... the younger generation doesn't mind us so much, but the older generation does. We are not very welcome there, and it's even worse for the half-Koreans that look more Asian. In all honestly it's easier to live in Seoul as a full Korean or a full white person.

@pettiroso In general it's because of their Xenophobic views on their society. It's you're Korean or your not. If you are half you generally aren't considered Korean so they look down on you, it's pretty much as simple as that. Same with the Japanese, if you aren't full Japanese you aren't Japanese, you are American, or whatever other country it is that you came from.

@pettiroso For Koreans I know it's largely a matter of Korean pride, my mom and best friends mom think that Korea is better than anywhere else in the world... though being in America staunched the whole Korean/Not Korean thing especially since we are half. We do however get criticized on how American our accents are though when we speak Korean.

From a far distance you look like any other white chic, but obviously closer up I could clearly tell you're mixed with some kind of oriental. I know this chic that's half white and half Filippino and she DOES NOT look "Asian" at all. More like a mixed Mexican and white or something. I noticed most people mixed with the 3 above groups though, end up looking more Oriental, you know with the "Asian eyes" and all? It's not meant to be offensive, it's just something I noticed. RACISM will always be an issue! I am 1/2 and my asian side disowned me from birth.I never had grandparents and have been made fun of growing up. I did not quite fit in with ASIAN side and not quite the WHITE side, but felt much more comfortable being WHITE. I DO NOT recommend mixing all different races together bec. it caused IDENTITY confusion to the child. If there is any suffering, at the end it is the CHILD who was helpless being born into unwanted circumstances!
