I disagree with some of the details of Mailer's analyses of American and global politics, but I've always respected his intellectual courage and vigour. He died the proverbial prophet unhonoured in his own country, but -thanks in part to clips like this on the internet- his books, the best of which I think are among the best in American literature, will be read by a new generation of readers, who will be more likely (it's the way with prophets) to appreciate them.

It depends on what you mean by rich. I am a high school graduate, with no college, 34 old years with a wife and 2 kids and own my own home. I have a good job and am not worried about my next bill. Not because I make $1,000,000 a year but because I am smart with my choices. I haven't swallowed anything except my love for the United States. Stein was a speechwriter for Nixon I believe, and is generally right-wing. However, he has some peculiar thoughts on taxes, including supporting the, in my opinion, criminal, death tax.
I believe that it is a fact that government revenues have soared following the Bush tax cuts and that it is critical that they be made permanent. I fear an economic catastrophe if Obama is elected and proceeds to follow through on his plan to raise the highest tax rate from appx 35 to 60 percent.

There are many more religious people in the Democratic party than hippies, queers and atheists, but I'd rather be in that party than the one with the fascists, polluters and demagogues.

Saying fascist alot does not make true comrad. Fascists were the right wing of the socialist party. That's much closer to you guys than us. Hitler was an evolutionist.
So once again I'm a conservative why? Because I'm 1) not a queer, 2) not a criminal 3) not on drugs, 4) not a government worker, 5) not a union member, 6) not a hippie, 7) not a communist, 8) don't hate people that make more money than me.

And calling themselves "Socialist" didn't make them so. The Nazis (National Socialists) were not socialists. Our current government is the definition of fascist: corporate, guilty-until-proven-innocent, anti-intellectual war mongers. This needs to change.

Actually, a fascist socialist has nothing in common with a social democrat, they are not even similar. A fascist is an authoritarian. A social democrat believes in freedom for the individual and a government that effectively manages public resources (which, oddly, is exactly the opposite of a republican who would wish to dominate the individual and let the corporation and government run free)

Has government ever effectively run anything? You complain about Republicans and corporations but put faith in government. These are the most inept workers in the country with 0 accountability and you want them to run all of our services?
Show me some good thriving socialist examples. Usually it always plunges into totalatarian government.

I don't smoke weed, but it most certainly should be legal. Legalize, tax, and regulate. The very fact that people USE weed, implies that it has value, so why not make it safe? No republican will ever concede that a person is capable of making an informed decision, but somehow surmise that a corporation can. Health care in America is BROKEN, so fix it, clearly big insurance has no motivation to get it done, therefore we rely on government to step in.

Look at drinking and driving now. Now you want to add drugs? Not alot of informed decision making when it involves controlled substances.
Why do liberals hate corporations so much. Too much Hollywood. Alien and Robocop are just movies. I would trust a company over a government anyday. There's plenty of examples of oppressive governments.

I'm starting to suspect you are a troll. Clearly, liberals don't hate corporations, but there is a limit to the amount of trust you can place in an organization that is motivated only by profit - it's not a model that can be trusted with public health. Come back when you've experienced the American medical system firsthand, which I have. Next time you're down with a longterm illness, we'll see how long you can stand to remain a republican.

liberals are facists. They use the government to force their political ideologies on everyone. I'd rather be with the paleoconservatists personally than the liberals or the neo-conservatists. Local politics, family, no wars for oil or unfair free trade or illegal immigration. Good stuff.
