I love how everyone says there is no way it could cost that much, guess what it does. The parts may cost like $2000 but body shop labor is INSANE. It cost over $1000 labor to change a bumper and a headlight on a truck that hit me. The parts only cost like $250.
So this could EASILY cost that much, new grill, hood, fenders, bumper, air damper, lights, rad, light mounts, horn, grill insert, inner wheel wells. This may sound extreme, but take a car to a body shop, and look at the list you get.
damn!!!!!! i have a grand am (1996) that hit the back of a dodge dakota truck (1995). The car wouldn't start and it was towed and it hit the back bumper of the truck which is simular to this vid at this same speed because it was being pulled (by towing rope) and he stop to quick for me to pump the brakes in time cuz without the car running the brakes was stiff....but didnt notice a dent at all.....but this?? is sad because they are trying to make cars lighter and its messing up there quality.
@IROCwarriorAMC88 <- WOw this guy know nothing about cars does he. Only car MADE of fiberglass is the Vette bro and its ALWAYS been that way! only thing PLASTIC on the car is the bumper cover, under it STILL Metal dude. Your Camaros Test ratings where POOR in that year. But I guess the world is damn small in the drivers seat of an old sub-pony car with less then 200hp outa a V8. man the '80's were a sad day for GM. 25mpg ROFLMAO!
@IROCwarriorAMC88 not to quote you but... "I get about 25 to 27mpg on the interstate in my frigging v8. City is worse, but I didn't buy my car for mpg! I bought it for relaxing on weekends & enjoying the sun @ more than half the cost of one of these plastic pieces of crap. " let me blah blah blah 5.7secs blah. -------> 07 G6.??hmm
@IROCwarriorAMC88 this is a crash test video for a pontiac g6. take all your spamming and whining about how your car is better to your inbox, which apparently everyone forgets about and instead spams videos.
And what's the 0-60 time on that Camaro? And how's the mileage? Sad days when today's 4 bangers are smoking your Camaro while getting three times the mileage. Not to mention safer.
man cars these days are made out of crap!!!!! i own a 89 camaro and that thing was made to last!!!! if i get hit, all it needs is a hammer and dolly and thats about it. back to looking like new. im scared to get in a crash in these new cars. ill stick with my steel made oldschool nice cars!
My dad used to have a peugeot 605 and every time he was parking the car in the garage he bumped the wall an then stopped the car (small garage, big car), there was no damage to the bumper at all because it was rubber on it and small shock absorbers. Once he did that with my car(1998 jetta) and fucked up my bumper pretty bad.
Bumpers should be made of steel and have shock absorbers for impacts under 5MPH, this would prevent hood, headlight and radiator damage, and still allow for crumpling at low to high speeds.
even if it were made of steel, unless they raised it up, it would still crunch the headlights and hood. and i think the old steel bumpers were more bother anyways.. a friends truck bumped into my car (with painted 5mph bumpers) all I had to do was buff a few scuffs, while his trucks chrome bumper was bent out of shape and smashed in.
I don't know, my mom was in a bad car wreck when she was young, she hit a little foreign car and totaled it, while her Buick only had a real tiny dent in the steel bumper.
Still bumper today could be made a lot better, no reason a bump in a parking lot should cost 4 grand.
It's funny, it seems to depend on so many variables.. for example.. I had a little toyota mr2 and a lady hit me in her big mid 80's Oldsmobile. I drove away, she didn't..I think I got lucky though.. ultimately, the heavy steel or black bumpers probably will take more bumps... but they look sooo ugly compared to the modern painted plastic ones!
Yea, I remember my friend tapped his work van Vandura against a 2000s camry, damn, the Vandura looked no shittier than it was before, but the camry... the plastic just snapped all over the place and the corner of the car was gone.
Thats how all auto makers make their cars these days. It is designed to absorb the impact. look up other cars and you will see they do the same thing.
You are completely right in that cars should crumple in high-speed accidents to absorb the energy and protect the passengers. However, that has nothing to do with the bumpers. The crumple zones are built into the structure of the car and are a completely different story. You can build a car with good bumpers, that would have very little damage in a test like this, while it still can have good crumple zones and earn good performance in higher speed crashes.
Yes but notice that the car is hit at the very top of the bumper then the car gets pushed down so that the car is hit in the grill area. If it was a direct bumper to bumper hit then there would be hardly any damage at all.
nah, I would rather have my car not get any damage and end up with a broken neck from the whiplash, no wait, yeah I'll take a collapsing force absorbing bumper anyday
when you think about how much money a new car is, it's f**king crazy that they can't make them withstand what was a very minor accident. no wonder insurance rates are so high.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
uh why do that kind of test... there is a super small chance of us running into that thing on the road... you need to test on someting like the size of a normal bumper... hahaha dumb ppls
Well I've just noticed that the bumper that the car hits is metal(Thats what it looks like).Odds are these days not many cars have metal bumpers, so the damage wouldn't be as severe as the video suggests.
....notice the car being pushed down thats where the real bumper is, 4 inches higher, a couple scratches and maybe a cracked bumper cover less than 500 damage
i'm gonna post this again so you guys know....this is not a bumper test....the bumper is just above the lower grills and is not even touched in this "test" all it hits is the plastic bumper cover! a mustang slid in the rain right into the front of my car while i was at a light going about 5-10 mph i got knocked back, and no damage at all except for a small scratch in my paint, because he hit the actual metal bumper
Toyota, Honda, and Nissan has made some of the lamist and ugliest looking vehicles i've ever seen. Tundra, honda element, toyota echo lol, nissan versa do you want me to keep going i'd be more than happy to.
@is3tj no they are not way more reliable anymore chevy, ford, and even buick make decent cars now and have finally caught up to the japanese, and korean cars in quality, safety and reliability.
I would guess that in a few years there will be a huge number of 'salvaged' G5's on the road if this low speed collision cost nearly $5000 in damages. The cars will barely be worth that in less than 5 years!! G5 equals salvage yard's dream!
Looks exactly like the damage my Grand Am GT sustained, when I rear-ended some bitch in a Buick LeSabre... Absolutely NOTHING happened to her car, "of course"...
Im with bignicky88....for one PONTIAC's suck! For 2 GM Sucks...the G6 is one of the ugliest cars Ive seen in my life! But...of course its a Pontiac..and Pontiac cannot build ONE good looking/fast car. American made cars suck. Stick with the Japanese and Germans...they will teach you how to build a good high quality, built to last, luxury automobile!
you are right and i also agree BUT, the main reason cars are made of mainly plastic now days is to provide more safety to the driver. think about when cars were made out of metal, when they hit something the car would be destroyed, while present now the car absorbs the impact and saves the driver, i dont like the plastic myself either but hey it saves our lives
yes true, but over the years since then the accidents ratings have gone through the roof, and now the american manufactures are caring about safety more now. and i know how the 90's pontiacs were i had a 96 pontiac grand am, the best p.o.s. i ever had lol, i was a very nice and comfortable car hell i could live in it! but the motors were very unreliable and the transmissions were crap! i had the transmission replaced 4 times and the engine replaced once, sold it and bought a 89 mustang gt 5.0
a guy in a 2000ish mustang decided to go too fast around a turn in the rain and slid right into my left front bumper while i was stopped at the light....i thought my bumper would be all smashed up..... go out and look at it and nothing!....i just have a small scratched area about 3 inches long above the lower grill...
this "bumper test" doesn't even hit the bumper! if it did it would do much better
wow yout obviously some uneducated wanna be punk i just said the maxima is worse because it is and so is the G35 dont make a rude comment because you dont like to hear the truth!
idk man. i hit a golf and dented the right front fender and the headlite up and deployed there air bag and they said it was liek 2000 for it lol. think that might b a lil high myself
I dont like how cars now a days have those kind of bumpers (if we can call them that) they make them all round and instead of absorbing the impact the shape they have send the object or car directly into the hood.
