  • There's FINALLY a High Inergy CD coming out soon called "Lovin Fever: The Best of High Inergy." None of their albums are on CD, but at least we get a compilation of that wonderfully talented group. They should have been bigger. I can't wait to buy that CD.

  • through the years, this is the performance i have remembered the most from the show. i had not seen it in decades, but stayed in my mind. high inergy was a standout. finally after this time there will be a high inergy hits collection on cd in march 2012! the beautiful girl in green deserves an a+++ for the numerous times she had to keep her top from slipping off. watch her, and see how she cleverly used the dance moves to keep pulling those straps up over and over without being obvious. classy!

  • The guy in the white shirt and pink cummerbund is James Debarge, janet jackson's first husband. (Can't imagine why that didn't work out.)

  • This performance was so electric, I remembered it almost verbatim years after I had first seen it...A-MAZ-ING performance from both groups!! Eldra, especially was ON IT!!

  • Like most Americans that are categorized as Black, their mom is most likely Multi-Ethnic...A lost of us stopped being pure African blooded long ago...I personally identifiy as Black and look very much so, but in fact am of African, Irish, French, several Native American strains, and even have some Jewish heritage...I have heard that the DeBarges have some Native American blood as well as a few other things in the mix...IT'S ALL GOOD!!

  • Thats my Aunty singing!!!!!!! i love my family Motown imma Holla at yall 2012 believe that Boo!

  • The girl singer from DeBarge has got to be the most beautiful woman In the world she's tall slender and has a beautiful face.

  • Something is seriously wrong with the 4 people who dislikes this posting!!!

  • I haven't seen them perform on stage before. Internet is awesome for going back to the ol' days. El Debarge suited having the curl in hair, now he just slicks it straight and he looks Mexican. Hot though, but I like his old signature look.

  • I love High Inergy's ankle slap move.

  • Of all of the performances from that special, this is the one that always stuck in my head the most. Great performances and songs from both groups. I wish the High Inergy albums would come out on CD. Luckily, the Debarge Motown Anthology came out recently, which I immediately bought. It has all of their Motown albums and it's great.

  • Did yall hear that run El did at 4:06???

He just gave me my life......

  • They were supposed to represent the future of Motown and they both broke up...sad.

  • This was a GREAT performance!

  • Wow wish this group did better. And wow Latoya Jackson did this song too. (High Energy did better though)

  • this isn't a reunion, this is when they were still together in their prime

  • The DeBarges should have a special with the whole family on there. It would really be great to see everybody, especially everybody's children!

  • AMAZIN !!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know if al debarge is still in jail?

  • @danthedodgerfan No. He's out. I think he got out either last year or 2009.

  • All i can say is that, for anybody wondering why High Energy never made it, I can't answer that, but if my idol(Rick James) had a chance to write & produce them,no doubt he would've gave them greaT material. Motown & Rick James were imbroiled in a very costly & long lawsuit at this time, that's 1 of the reason he only appeard on the show in video! Look what Rick did for Teena Marie & The Mary Jane Girls?! Teena was about 2 get fire from Motown, until Rick James saved her.

  • that day MJ did the moonwalk!!i love you El.

  • Motown needs to stop the BS and release this on DVD. Clearly one of the highlights from a perfect show!

  • @wingchundragon Its on DVD

  • @wingchundragon I agree with you 1 million%, Motown/Universal need to release a whole lot of shit from their vaults, including live concerts, out of print albums, etc.

  • like James is doing his own thing seriously! but this perf

    omance is so great!

  • cute!

  • 2nd best performance on this show, behind MJ.

  • @aaronveegee I disagree, although I loved this performance, My idol(Stevie Wonder had the best performance on the entire show, however Michael' & his brothers were the most exciting. The DeBarge performance was top notch as well. Did you peep that vocal run that El DeBarge did towards the end, that was epic!

  • Ok guys.If this is from '83 then thisexplains my need for information.Born in '78 so please forgive,Is High Inergy the group that influenced the movie "Sparkle"?

    I feel so embarassed.lol.

  • Forgive me guys,This music was faintly playing in the backround of many of my Early childhood memories. So i don't really know all of the details about them.

Is it true that they were all family? Is it true that they are from Michigan?

  • @kaliyuta They are sister and brothers - from Grand Rapids. There were 10 siblings. Bunny still lives there. She wrote a note to El on his FB page the other day. The older two are Bobby and Tommy, but they sang principally in a group called Switch. (Can be pulled up). Bobby is deceased, but he was the lead and Tommy played bass. These five were just called DeBarge. Then El sent solo. Unfortunately, passed over by rap, hip/hop or whatever. I think all succumbed to a drug addict. El back

  • @ewalk4959 Yeah.I thought so cause i have family there and they look just like some people in my family. So El is the guy in the pink shirt right? I remember them just not all of the details.Do you know if they are Puerto Rican or Dominican?

    I've always wondered.

  • @kaliyuta they are neither, they have black mother and a (french ancestry) white father who passed in 2009.

  • @digable04 wow.You must be a big fan.Do you know about the girl group High Inergy? Me being from Michigan I am so fascinated by People who come from working class towns and families and become famous like this.I just hope they do not fade into obscurity. So did El pass away?Or is he the one that spent jail time? I would like to know why he did.

  • @digable04 I just enjoy their music (the family, they are really talented). No I don't know the girl group you speak of and El Debarge is not dead, he just performed at the 2010 BET Awards and did a great job. His album comes out in September. He was in prison but he is out as of last October I think. I don't know why he was incarcirated.

  • @digable04 he was busted with crack cocaine

  • @kaliyuta .....Debarge are biracial .....their mom is black and their dad is white.

  • The lead singer had it going on!! She is sooo pretty, can sing, got the steps together, and the girl in the green dress was working to pay the rent!! Great performance.

  • @ewalk4959 I hear you on that. The one in the green was dancing like she was six months past due on the rent! She was awesome. The one in blue was sensational. Brenda Hamilton, (that's her name, I think) was magnificent. The vocal and dancing was superb.

  • I love the energy of the girl in the green dress .

  • Those 3 women were so pretty. Who were they.

  • I remember this! This is one of the greatest performances to ever happen on television, especially that High Inergy performance!

  • THA LAST PART iS R3ALLy NiC3...3L VOiC3 iS SO PR3TTY!!

  • the one in the green is working to pay the rent!! go girl!!

  • @chaliceofchange

    OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! LOL!

  • For Gods sake release Motown 25 on DVD already!!! El was great on this. As for High Energy, it just shows how even the lesser known groups from before are 10 thousand times better than the groups today.

  • One of the greatest performances ever caught on video period!

  • Eldra DeBarge is an amazing talent...he is on fire!!...So much writing, dancing, singing talent unrealized!! He should be a major star and musical influence to this day...

  • For many of us, this was the high point of the evening. High powered music, great choregraphy and hot costuming.

  • Great performance!

How come only El and the chick from High Energy are the only one who had mics? LOL!!

  • was this motown 25

  • I remember High Energy. They just didnt go anywhere. They were pretty good

  • i love this!!!

  • high inergy...never heard of them before....but this song,,,,this song is fye as hell...DEFINITELY just found a new favorite...love the energy

  • High Inergy should have been huge! Their first album was the bomb with "You can't turn me off" and "Love is all you need", as usual Berry Gordy took their money and didn't promote them right, the ass. The girl in the green is workin' it, LOL!

  • I do not care if no one remembers High Inergy. Their song has me jamming in my office. I don't much like the recording, but this song live is AWESOME!!! Sidebar: They broke up not long after this.

  • @StopDomViolence High Inergy. they weren't really big. They were supposed to be the new supremes but it really didn't take off. I love this one song though. They are more so known for their song "you can't turn me off"

  • i remember hearing this!!!! i thot it was a woman tho love this song!

  • i always thought james debarge danced so damn funny

  • RAW FOOTAGE

  • I clearly remember watching this show when it came on and was amazed! Debarge, Jackson 5/MJ and Marvin Gaye were the highlights of this show..even the ending was awesome! WHY ISNT THERE A RE ISSUE DVD OF THIS SHOW?? SO MANY LEGENDS ON IT!

  • It's always freaky how much El DeBarge looked and sounded like MJ.

  • maybe do to fact that DeBarge were motown group and would spent alot of time with Jackson clan if remember correct janet Jackson run off to marry james DeBarge , anyway it great track one of great soul /r&b love songs

  • I never noticed that All This Love was performed up tempo during the MOTOWN 25 show. it is definitely faster. I LOVE IT just as well, at any rate :)

  • Ha ha that sister in the green is doing the damn thing. Get it girl! LOL

  • That is Linda Howard getting down!

  • She is really working it out! I just don't understand. High Inergy seized their moment. Great choreography. Good looks. What happened?

  • The lady in purple of "High Energy" reminds me of Michelle Obama .Alittle shorter.

I loved the 25th Motown Reunion show!

  • I thought in High Inergy there were 4 members, what happened

  • Vernessa Mitchell left the group and became a professional Gospel singer..She and her sister Barbara, who remained with the group used to split leads...I heard that had been one too many "casting couch" situations for her to remain...

  • who sing's can't stop?

  • Can't Stop is on the 2nd DeBarge album, I believe...

  • Believe it or not, This performance was what introduced me to High Inergy and wanting to know more about this group.

  • I have this whole thing on vhs tape lol...

  • Really? Did u tape it or buy it? I would like to have it!

  • TAPED IT THE NIGHT IT AIRED! its really a great item to have, the whole show was REALLY nice.... I really cherish it!

  • Must be nice!!! Wish I could have seen the whole thing!!! I may be young but I love Debarge!!

  • I THINK THIS IS THE MOTOWN 25 SHOW

  • who u tellin i love them too lol

  • My mom had taped it too and I used to watch it when I was little. We lost the tape when we moved from our apartment we had when I was little. Last year, I bought the DVD on Ebay as a birthday gift for her. This is a badass performance! I've always enjoyed this segment.

  • This and the Jackson 5(6) reunion are my favorite highlights of this broadcast....

  • @RCrealityTV The love of my life bought me a copy on DVD,it's not the clearest, but it is very good, & I love & appreaciate her for it, right baby?! I think she got it overseas or something,m & it was;nt cheap. Anywho, she knows I wanted it because my 2 idols are on it,Stevie Wonder & Rick James.

  • At 3:23 he says oh I could get it. I think thats so sexy

  • I like the end when EL is singing

  • i love debarge ever since the 1983 .iamin love with the debarge sound el debarge and bunny cast a spell on me forever. iam singer as well. debarge is my roots old shcool

  • the dude n white and gray behind debarge looks like katt williams 20 yrs. from now

  • I remember this performance, It was Motown 25.

  • Happy 50th Birthday, Motown Records!

  • Wow! This was from Motown 25 in 1983

  • @TonygMus2 WONDERFUL YEAR !!!!!!!

  • your....so....fine..., my baby.

  • The song Debarge and High energy sang together is called Can't Stop

  • Does anyone know the name of the song they sang together after High Inergy sang their song?

  • OMG I remember this. I didn't think this would be on Youtube

  • That man right that there is awesome.. He's a star in his own right but thats michael jackson reincarnate.. He got moves but not like mike's but his voice is wayyy better and soo smooth.. El is forever a G.. High or not but G nonetheless

  • does anybody have the full version of debarges "i like it'' and Switch's performances of there'll never be please post..........

  • what was the name of the song that that they all sang 2gethr at the end ?

  • I remember that this performance was right after Billie Jean. How do u follow Michael's moonwalk ? Easy, with Debarge, the most underrated group of the 80s

  • Man, James was the most awkward thing back then, but if he ain't the finest thing going now -- he's lie a fine wine, gets better with time.

  • El has such a babyface here, Hard to believe he was already a dad @ this time!!! He looks so young! El was boogy'n too! :)

  • I have this dvd

  • I've been waiting for this post. We had this on VHS and it got copied over. Hopefully It will be re-released

  • I love High Inergy ... Barbara Mitchell the lead singer is a very underrated singer does anybody know where she is now ? Because i use to have her High on Love Cd can't find it anywhere ...

  • My mother still has the VHS tape of Motown 25. That was one night everyone will remember for a long time that saw it.

  • o.k if that was me, and i was singing like inches away from el debarge, i seriously would grab him and just start humping him on stage lol... uhhh he is sooo damn fine!!!

  • i rather take him backstage and then hump him..lol

  • this, marvin gaye, michael jackson moonwalking, temps and Four tops batlle was the best part of Motown 25!

  • it's 2008 and i still love this group

    they rock

  • Does anyone know the title of the song both groups perform at the end of the medley? something like "On the right track" or "Can't Stop"

  • Can't stop, i have just checked on my cd...

  • its can't stop :)

  • Comment removed

  • what Cd is it from?

  • yeah its definately the All this love album :-)

  • Bunny is soooooo sexy

  • Mowtown 25 what a show!! Wish they would put it out on DVD. This was a great performance all around from both groups. El showing that he was star material singing great and some nice moves too!!

  • It's on DVD now. I have it

  • whats the name of the dvd?

  • Wow may I ask where u got it from? I would LOVE to have it!!

  • debarge a great group never get enough credit

  • James Debarge looks like foolywang material.

  • Yeah James 2 left feet were on display.lol

  • Lol! I noticed that too;)

  • This was from "Motown 25" where Michael Jackson did the moonwalk for the first time.

  • Love this song, thanks for sharing. I haven't heard it in years.

  • The lead singer of High Inergy is the same Mitchell sister (Vanessa or Barbara?) that went on to sing for DJ JR Vasques.. LOVE her! The girl in blue sequence needs to practice a bit more.. Lol.

  • Do you know what ever happenned to High Inergy? They had breakin up after shortly after this show.

  • I don't, but try Wikipedia/ MySpace.. I met the lead singer @ a NY. niteclub, and she was so sweet! She & her sister are still singing, the other two are probably grandparents by now..

  • PS: Debarge, (on the other hand) aren't doing to well. Bunny had fatal health problems, but is okay now.. Some have died, others are facing major financial problems.

  • The only DeBarge that died was Bobby. Few others (like Bunny and Marty) have/had health problems.

  • I stand corrected.. So where's Janet's/ James' (DeBarge) daughter? :)

  • Ok I was wondering the same thing that girl is 23 or 24 by now. I know shes prolly drop dead georgous. They are very protective of their children look at micheal.

  • breezycomicalqt, I agree.. A Jackson's genes fused w. a De Barge's couldn't help but be beautiful, not to mention the talent?!.. Okay, BIG SECRET!..: I don't want to get in too much trouble.. But I will say that (allegedly) she is in a Jackson's video, as well as in one of Micheal's videos.. That's all. :)

  • The lead singer for the group Switch (one of the Debarges) died from aids. His brother Chico said in an interview that he thought that his brother probably contracted the disease in prison.

Success does not save any of us from tragedy it seems. If it is going to happen it will happen I guess.

  • I do agree.. Sometimes success brings tragedy..

  • Vernessa and Barbara both sing gospel now and have several solo lps/cds between them. Linda Howard (fair skinned) and Michelle (Martin) Rumph were primarily dancers who were hired to flesh out the group harmonies. Haven't heard from them in recent times. Hope they are well.

  • Vernessa Mitchell who was the original lead on the first two lps is not in this video. That is her sister Barbara. Vernessa is the one who sings the gospel/house songs produced by Jr. Vasquez.

  • i love both songs and the performances lol they are funny, youtube deleted the other vid of this one that was posted, :( but its back woo hoo
