I love the triangle concept, it actually helps to understand alot of aikido throughs too such as irimi nage etc, where the way it works is by taking the attackers balance rather than using strength, but the conceptual understanding of the triangle makes it easier to understand why it works. Bravo...wish i could watch the full tape of this.
I clicked this not knowing Janich would be in it. I am consistently unimpressed with his approach to training. Good knife designer, dated training methods.
All traditional martial arts are effective in real life, that is why they were developed in the first place. The key is timing and positioning. Executing a side kick to the midsection at a close distance like that is not a good technique. The low side kick is fine, but you need more distance for an effective midsection side kick. At close distance, a knee to the midsection would be a much better option.
@Haseeb2 I agree with you Haseeb2. To add to it, I would say as a practitioner of Ryukyu Kempo myself for over 25 years now, that most practitioners see traditional arts as something like Japanese Shotokan which is really contemporary. My father and other instructors trained in Okinawa and what is taught mainstream and what is taught to family is two different things. So, I could go on and on, but thanks for your comment.
"You probably may have guessed that I don't care." Love it lol. Awesome video, great explanations. Everything was clear and concise, great job, keep 'em coming.
All this guy did was what ALL martial artist's should do, and ADAPT the perfect form you learn in class, and learn how to use it effectively. This doesn't mean you're going to have "perfect form" at all times. Just because you don't use complete form it doesn't mean you have thrown away you're traditional fundamentals, it just means that you understand how to effectively use it.
I see a true martial artist in this person, as he is willing to evolve, just as Bruce Lee and the founders / master's of the hundreds of different styles have done all over the world. A true martial artist has to evolve or become a fossil. Great vid. Rei Sensei.
it is funny how some people steal a few tricks from real arts such as silat and try to repackage their lesser unerstanding as their "expression". micheal janich is a thief. it is a shame clowns like janich and simonet are ok with butchering and slandering true silat. if any of you had ever seen a real silat guy u would not be impressed with this crap
@bustonyomom shut up this is a thinking person who has decided to sift through the bullshit of the martial arts and bring us the techniques which really work in the street.
Love it..... lol on the quote @ around 4:15 "Traditionalist may say that is more of a back kick and not a side kick - probably may have guessed I don't care."
neither me as far the other dude will be down. This man is not a thief but a Master that have the sharp mind to learn and make simple many old skills that need to be review, and passed to today reality.
Thanks great info
