  • Very nicely played. I agree about hating these repertoire pieces - they're all overdone now. Playing for competitions I think is a mistake - you start to sound like you're playing for a competition, rather than enjoying the music. Flutists should be made to write their own pieces, and play them how they like.

  • this is great! im learning this as my audition piece for RCM & Trinity next year i will never be this good! you have beautiful tone! how long did it take you to learn this?

  • whoah...nice xD

i have to play this for an audition for the RCM in London, and it's in about...2 wks now,and i ish scarreedd. o.O

there's no WAY i'm going to sound as good as this xD

  • Ahh...runs...>.>

    You played them beautifully :)

I was looking at this to play...maybe next year, hehe

  • I played it for my A Level. The pianist got faster and faster as we went through! I almost ended up in a heap on the floor.

  • wow that sounds awesome

im learning this piece at the moment- i just wanted to no how it was ment to sound!

    damm that allegro is fast!

i cant do that scale down from the top G at the begining of the allegro!!

  • Nice playing....I'm doing this piece for my DipABRSM, but my pianist refuses to get any faster than this....for me: fast=fun.......

  • Good luck, this is my rehearsal the day before the DipABRSM. Just play your best and I'm sure you will be fine!

  • The tune is beautiful, I used to play it :) but I have a hunch that your tone is too shallow / superficial or maybe I have this hunch because of the quality of recording... That's our - our flutists - big problem - records don't hide our faults but show them in brighter light....

  • the tone is so beautiful. great job!

  • wow...i can't play any runs that fast. ur awesome! i hope to get my playing down as good as u. awesome job!

  • Good technique on the beginning. Might want to consider doing some more woodshedding at measure 192.

  • Thanks. What do you think is wrong with measures 192? I dont see the problem :S

  • hey sagar. Remember you from camp hill dayz. Sik flutist way better than peter berry

  • Awesome. I'm still in the sight reading stage of this piece. Came to find some recording to see if I was playing the rhythm correctly :P

  • omg i'm supposed to be playing this for my grade 8 trinity and he makes it sound effortless T_T

    he is just wonderful <3

  • yeah, my teacher did a performance of the martinu sonata a few weeks ago.

its so inspiring to see your teacher play something you struggle with!

  • arr lol this is the region band try out. I think im gonna cry lol , it sounds so difficult. (which im 99.9% sure it is). Any tips?

  • Slow practice. LOTS of it. Practice the tongued passages slurred and with varying articulations.

Also, I think the natural tendency is to ignore a lot of the dynamic/phrase/style markings in the awkward technical sections. If you give greater attention to those, a lot of the technique works itself out naturally. ESPECIALLY the leggerio section in 192-207, if you really push the crescendos down into the low register and fade away going back up, it becomes surprisingly easy.

  • very fine playing

  • very nice, one of the bests faure´s in youtube.

  • Excellent!

  • I looove this piece

  • me too

  • I'm going to play this with a flutiste for a competition. very good performance! beautiful interpretation =)

  • erm. . . what can I say?. . . . WOW!!!!! :O

  • wow at the second part!

  • ahh . . i think can listen to this song forever :)

  • when your flute is hot, it tends to go sharp. when your flute is cold, it goes flat.

    you're really good.

    i really like that piece.

  • wow, that's beautiful.

im in 8th grade, and im working on that piece for solo and ensamble.

though......you're a little sharp. did you you tume with the piano?

  • may i ask how many years have you been playing the flute? :) so beautiful performance.

  • Thank you :) I keep forgetting how long, but over 11 years I think!

  • :] i hope to play like you one day x) thank you for uploading this video

  • Beautiful! Your articulation was flawless! I'm learning this piece for a solo/ensemble festival but I have a long way to go before it's this perfect!

  • I'm playing this piece for solo and ensemble. Thanks for uploading this vid. I use this to learn how to play it. good job :-)

  • have the starting pitch in ur head so that it doesn't come out lower then where it should be! a tip for all flute players...when double tonging..try starting on KT instead of TK..it will give you better accuracy and help line up tricky passages!

  • wow...

  • God, that first note you held just sounded like water, y'know? So smooth.

  • i love this piece, im learning it at the moment, im only 14, so it'll be a long time before i can play it well, but i love it

  • i am jealous of your effortless articulation--- i have come to hate this piece... i had to play it for my audition to a school of music

  • That was really good! I enjoyed listening, you communicate the second section well especially.

  • I love the second section of this!

  • I really enjoyed your interpretation of this piece - one of my favs! Too often, I think, flutists "bump" the descending notes in the opening phrase too hard.

    where do you play/study?
