Finding honor for U.N./U.S. soldiers who "served" (served who?) in the undeclared war in Indochina is equivalent to the task of wringing last year's cat piss out of shag carpeting.
Way to put down a guy who had nothing to do with why that war started or how it was conducted. You are equivalent to the people who spit on soldiers returning from duty at the airport.
What a huge help your comment is! (sarcastic)
Hopefully the next thing that cat pisses on is you.
The U.S. govt. sacrificed 3,000 soldiers at Pearl Harbor in 1941 to the Empire of Japan; the U.S. govt. poisons and adulterates our water with the waste product sodium fluoride and the blood intoxicant known as lithium (as well as innumerable heavy metals and pesticides). The U.S. govt. clouds the skies with aluminum oxide and barium salt.
Thanks for the update. Let me know when you're ready to move over there to Imperial Japan away from all this fluoride and barium salt, I'll help you pack. Will you be leaving a carbon foot print when you go, or does your VW bus run on anti-government rhetoric?

When your Grand parents were in Midland, your Grandmother had pictures from the set of "We Were Soldiers". The second time I saw here she had some more that Greg Kinnear had sent them of his newborn. She was so proud! It was like it was her own! Prayers and thoughts...
Please let your Granfather know that our hearts and prayers are with him. The James' from Midland, Texas are my good friends. That is how I know your Grandparents. God bless and take care...
Unfortunately so many of those young men died in Vietnam and are not honored with such medals. Bruce's MoH truly represents all of their sacrifices as well.
Please you do not have to support them, but we implore you to respect them, unknown Americans like him has gave us the privilege of speaking out, I can not tell you to quit or stop expressing yourself in that matteras a matter of fact we put our Behinds in danger to allow you to be able to speak your mind, but he received the Congressional Medal of Honor, he deserved a little respect, my fellow brother American
@amigodemoose Andrew, I met your Grandpa and your Grandmother twice. He came to speak at the Petroleum Club in Midland, Texas about 8 years ago. A good friend of mine, a Vietnam Veteran helicopter pilot, asked him to come. I spoke with both of them at length. The sweetest, humble, caring people. Bruce was a hoot! told the funniest stories...he could really "spin a yarn" I feel truly blessed to have met such a great man and a true hero to this country!
@MrGar1966 Thank you. I love my grandpa just got to visit him in seattle a little while ago. Im going up again on the 4th of december but its for my grandma's funeral. Since you met her you know how special she was, say a prayer for her and my grandpa its a tough time for him and im sure he could use it.
Book, WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE...AND YOUNG by Lt.Gen H.Moore & J.Galloway, also the movie starring Mel Gibson.Bruce Crandall was played by actor Greg Kinnear. He was the commander of Alpha Company of the 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion that flew in Moore's 1st battalion,7th cavalry to LZ X-ray in the Ia Drang Valley of Sth Vietnam on Nov 1965. If it wasn't for Crandall flying out the wounded & flying in ammo/water, the Americans would have been slaughtered
@AccordGTR - Bruce Crandall was an American himself and part of the battle. They all contributed mightily, or they would have been slaughtered. If the men hadn't of fought as hard as they did, if the artillery crews weren't so accurate and relentless, if Col.Moore had obeyed orders and left his men, they all would have died. They all fought together with everything they had and as a result, they persevered. The American military in Vietnam never lost a battle.

@JohnQuincyAdams1 I dunno what the big deal is when you say US never lost a battle. They never destroyed the NVA either. The NVA and VC inflicted terrible and tremendous losses so I don't see what kind of a "victory" that is. The VC/NVA chose the time when to fight and retreated when they saw the US were too strong. In the end, that strategy won over the US and the Americans withdrew abandoning their Vietnamese allies to to the communists
@AccordGTR - The, "big deal", is to tell the truth, to respect the men who died there and for the big deal of historical accuracy. Over 1 million North Vietnamese soldiers died in Vietnam while 58,000 U.S. soldiers died. Now which is more of a, "infliceted terrible and tremendous loss", 58,000 or over 1 million? The truth does matter.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@JohnQuincyAdams1 Again you seem to ignore the REAL cost to America. Vietnam got their independence after fighting off foreign armies for 30 years. They would gladly trade lives for that. The US on the other hand was in turmoil after losing the Vietnam War. Economy was in tatters. Pres. Johnson was humiliated. American society was torn between those who supported the war and those that saw it as it really was - an unjust war. It cost America far more than what it cost Vietnam.
@AccordGTR - Again you are ignoring the truth that South Vietnam didn't want to be ruled by communism. Again you ignore the fact that the communist North Vietnamese never even won a battle all throughout that long war. The outcome of the war was based on politics, not the military. The U.S. didn't lose the Vietnam war, but merely withdrew under intense and misguided political pressure. Again it is not unjust for an ally to respond to the cries of help from South Vietnam.

@JohnQuincyAdams1 Wow you really believe in that BS? S. Vietnam was run by corrupt dictator when the US came in. He was later deposed by a military coup. Pls do not try to understand Asian politics much less Vietnamese politics cuz I don't think u even are Asian. NOBODY in Asia wants US or other white people to run their country, whether they are communist or not. Why don't u visit Vietnam today and see how many foreign companies and expats work there now? Its a peaceful and lovely place now.
@AccordGTR - Sir, your racism is disgusting. No one wanted to, "run", South Vietnam but the South Vietnamese people, to be free of the chains of communism. Now we see the truth comes out; your hatred based on racism. I feel sorry for you, sir.
@JohnQuincyAdams1 Well I feel sorry for you too cuz u cannot see other peoples views then wonder why everyone hates America. I'm no racist. I'm a nationalist. I studied and lived in the US 10 years. I know US very well but I never wanna live there cuz Phil. is a much much better place. I have Jap girlfriend that also hates US. Only people that don't know better, like the US. Fact is, US foreign policy contradicts US domestic policy so it has created hate and enemies. U should study more...
@AccordGTR - With all due respect sire, hatred blinds people to the facts and as you have admitted your racist based hatred, then you have also admitted you are blind to the facts. The only people who hate America are evil terrorists and the people who support them and people who support a nation being taken over by evil communists, like North Vietnam/China did to South Vietnam. Evil people such as terrorists hate America and you know what? Toooo bad! We dont' care!
@JohnQuincyAdams1 People love the concept of America but real Americans live a lie. Racism and hate is more present in America that you have to legislate it against it. Hello! Those "evil terrorists" were trained and supplied by Americans with American technology and weapons. Hello! Yes, I believe you don't care but guess what, you will care when you someone plants a car bomb in Times Square. I bet That got your attention. Oh yeah, it was an American that did that, not me.

@JohnQuincyAdams1 Its not just hatred that blinds facts, its also IGNORANCE. Lot of people think Americans are ignorant to other cultures and try to impose their will just cuz they feel superior. What about the evils of US: Bridge at No Gun Ri in Korea, My Lai massacre, Abu Gharib in Iraq, Japan/Okinawa rapes. These are all historical facts of attrocities and crimes against humanity committed by US soldiers. You're an idiot to think that any country would want US soldiers inside their territory
@AccordGTR - If China/Vietnam ever try to invade and take over the Philippines to force communism down the freedom loving people of the Philippines, to murder your people mercilessly, to take your freedoms away, if the Philippine government asks its ally America for help, we'll take your suggestion and say that it's, "unjust", for America to help you fight against the evil taking over the Philippines.

@amigodemoose Wow, lucky you. In this interview, I noticed three things about him:
1) He seems like a very nice guy -- very soft-spoken, not into bragging.
2) He seems like a very thoughtful guy, not the type to give quick or pat answers.
3) His memories of his time in Vietnnam are still very vivid and very fresh.
It's really good to know he's had the pleasure of seeing his family grow.
