  • YUP CHAGI!!! nice though

  • You should keep your eyes in the other guy or you're not going to learn from your mistakes. And don't launch attacks that are not going to land. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work.

  • david vs goliat

  • Dude. Seriously take the hit. dont be scared.

  • @itstam619

I have never really sparred without the padding, so this was kind of my first time doing that. Keep in mind, I am not used to not fighting without the pads and am inexperienced.

  • @RakaiThwei it's better than the other round though. 1:19 was great timing showing the ineffectiveness of any jumping kicks, but u should always capitalize in any mistake or weakness of opponent and chase him moving backwards only when there's force or a must

it's good effort at 2:13. that was an opportunity to finish him before he had a chance to come up with combo of his own. hope u're practing in a school and not just home.

don't be afraid to be hit lightly, rather be afraid of hurting him

  • Little guy has proper technique. You just need the sparring experience. Pick a coin size target on your opponent to hit. Let the fluid of the fight determine your leading side...try not to force your favored right side. Then combinations.and always remember to recoil your technique. Oh, and keep your head up and eyes open. Mix up your linear and circular foot work. Find your opponents rhythm, then... well your doing great, just keep listening to your instructors.

  • Street Fighter Ryu vs. Final Fight Haggar

  • I do wing chun... and I can say that this wing chun guy is much better than the others amateurs that put their videos on youtube... a message for the mma fans: he's wing chun is much better then the shawn obasi's one... only one thing I want to say in negative: you haven't to grab your opponent foot when he kick you, 'cause if he isn't a boy but a muay thai man he will hit you badly... but for the rest you are very impressive

  • DUDE Y DO U GET SCARED CUZ I NOTICE THAT U BACK OFF ALOT

AND U R A BLACK BELT IT DOESN'T METTER IF U R FIGHTING A BIG GUY U ALWAYS HAVE TO GO FORWARD

  • @oaxaco1991 he is not black, he is dark blue in tang soo do

  • Howcome every clip of tang soo do on youtube is of you? xD

  • I kind of feel like the huge height difference is exacerbated by the styles; a smaller man using Wing Chun would at least be able to try to close to the inside and get inside a big guy's range since he should be most at home at short-range anyway. Vice versa, a bigger guy could use those long range Tang Soo Do kicks to try to keep the smaller guy out of range. But since the smaller guy is using Tang Soo Do, those long-range kicks are still right within range of the big guy's punches...

    como se atreve a poner tang soo do el muy hijo de puta.}

la wea a q acabo de ver era un mono de mierda vestido de blanco

  • i would of love to see the other guy pick up his front leg and axe kick at 1:11 in stead of back up lol. but the again hed after to use controll and youd be up under his groin after that.

  • dude you remind me alot of ryu from street fighter

  • @Jemnen009

That's probably the most awesome compliment I've gotten as I idolize Ryu. I look up to him and he was an inspiration as to why I took martial arts.

How do I remind you of Ryu, out of curiosity?

  • @RakaiThwei lol thats awesome bro, i started martial arts from watching Bruce Lee all the time and studying his philosophy cuz i kinda idolize him, but idk it's just something about the way you fight makes me think of ryu, and your outfit too lol

  • @RakaiThwei You kind of remind me of Ryu too. u remind me of Ryu for the fighting stance u take up sometimes. Also whenever u fight u actually wear your white uniform (and red gloves which is same colors red, white, black as Ryu) where's a lot of other martial arts sparring matches I've seen they just practice in workout clothes.

  • @kickerwithkick2 maybe it also has something to do with the music.

  • @RakaiThwei I can answer that, its your stance and your uniform all you are missing is a sash around your head xD

  • @WingChunRabbit

lol Well I do idolize Ryu-- he's to me, the ideal martial artists, right up there with Bruce Lee. But yeah, I got into martial arts cause of him being my childhood hero!

I still train too, though not at my dojang anymore, but train at home.

  • @RakaiThwei That's good always try to keep up your practice so you stay in good health of body and mind. I wish i had came across wing chun earlier in life, i'm only 20 but i've tried karate didn't really like it same thing with tae kwon do. the only thing i'm really trying to achieve right now is flexibility that's like the basis for everything.

  • @RakaiThwei naw dude you gotta rip off your sleeves and trim that hair and develop a hadoken

  • @Shuukyou

I actually did tear off the sleeves. Hair does need to be trimmed though... As for the Hadouken, if I could do it, I would. Ha ha ha ha!

    Street Fighter rocks!

  • I agree with @scbsee88 to a point regarding your opponent's size...however, practicing with bigger, stronger and faster guys will take the best of you in developing attributes such as distance judging, timming, moving around without getting hit...and eventually, how to defeat Goliaths. Just as a Wing Chun man, whom after practicing with the wooden dummy, will then feel humans like butter!

Keep up the good practice and the good vidz!

  • If your friend was black this wold be like the fight in Game of Death between Bruce Lee and the giant Kareem Abdul Jabar. You even resemble Bruce haha. Great video though, it's always good to test against other styles.

  • where do you find these wing chun people?? all they have is crappy chain punches combined with retarded footwork

  • When you grow up a foot more you should be able to take him, as for NOW, best way is bait him into a straight kick, grab it, step in,push or punch while sweeping, only way you can beat a big guy like that. Study his movements and make an opening for yourself into a take down... and Run lol, if it was a real fight at least.

  • man u got beat up every single vid man nice job !! Where is Hadoken and Shoryuken ?

  • Is the TSD guy just a really small adult or a kid? I'd assume a child, but the description said they are really good friends.

  • hahahahahaha David Vs Goliath....... wtf

  • for the size difference the best strategy would be to hook kick the back of the knee

  • i know they say size doesnt matter but hes so much bigger then you and appears to have descent training.

  • der Wing Tsun mann hat sein gewicht ziemlich oft vorn!!

  • Whoa! Two different styles, different body sizes, AND UNEVEN terrain! Getting more & more experimental! Very cool (and tough)!

  • Finally A martial art video that has no MMA Fanboy comments. YAY!

  • @rehwr, MMA Fanboys - bursting bullshit bubbles for over 10 years!

  • Try youtubing "Wing Chun series highlights part 4" at around 1:58 sec.

I know this is a drama series, but it does portray Wing Chun concepts quite accurately.

Just this section alone (between 1:58 to 2:50) can give you an idea about a good reason to get closer.

It looks like alot of people are telling you to go in and attack, but why do that if it looks risky, and not sure how to approach right?

So yea, this vid shows the range you were fighting at, and an advantage of getting closer.

  • Don't fret over feeling outmatched purely by the size. People like to imagine and dream that it is easy to overcome size with speed and technique. This is not true if the larger person has even a small amount of speed and reflex.

In a real life situation, avoid a fight with a person this much larger than you no matter what the ego at stake.

Techniques for defending against someone like this is to wait for their attack and move into them and to the side or back. Attack from the blind.

  • your name is RakaiThwei or Ratatouille.

    jaja very good video ;)

  • wtf! is this hulk vs plastic man?¿

  • Kempo full contact in dirt drive way is how I learned, WTF are these guys doing? Other then walking around each other in a circle, I would have caught a skrima across my leg from my Professer.

I know its only practise but do something and learn from your mistakes set a side your ego and just "Go for broke".

  • He was able to see you preparing to kick on a few occasions esp anything other than a straight kick. He is not very agile coz he's big but you were chained punched to the head a few times and your arm was caught after a punch. Good thing he was your fren.

  • Height does not necessary mean advantage. In this case, it is clearly a disadvantage. The big guy is slowed down by his bulk. Wing Chun was invented by a compact size lady, she designed it for that advantage as well.

  • i would like to light spar you ,i do tkd

  • nice. i wonder if u have taken some wing chun lessons too. i think that if u incorporate the wing chun style into ur fights u would do alot better. from wat i see looks like u want to keep ur distance. while wing chun emphasizes on sticking to ur opponent.

  • LOL

  • good move...

go closer take hit, hit him

it need courage but if u try it one time ur style will change

    belive me..

short people not really bad in fighting

    i'm also short like u..

more aggresive attack make some move to confucing him and get closer

but if u get closer u must to attack fast..

if not u will lose i want to gave u some video but i don't have any camera

    sorry for that..

  • sparing against opponents of different heights and disciplines is VERY good practice.

I know of one guy who used to do boxing - always spared with someone a few weight classes below him - why? simple... practicing avoiding a strike from a lighter and more agile opponent really improved his reactions and timing..

I also know of many people who will spa with others from different disciplines to force them to adapt what they know to work better for them.

'sides - it's good to spa!

  • i hate to be a downer... but i saw nothing in both of your fighting styles that represented the individual styles... all of the moves used could be learned at a MMA class, it was an alright sparring match though XD

  • I like the video :)

Every matchup has its challenges but so to does each opponent have his own weaknesses. Your opponent has greater size, you have better speed which I noticed you did well to exploit. I realize this was only friendly sparring so I'll expect in an actual fight you would have gone to more leg kicks. Size doesn't help much with a broken leg.

    All the best. :)

  • I like ur chinese killer stand in the 2'10" ;)

  • YES, I AM FAN SIU WONG

  • A few comments...I like your fighting spirit, but you really should be sparring against people more your own size. There are some physical realities that can't be easily overcome when your opponent is almost 1 foot taller than you and has a lot longer reach. I'm not saying it's impossible to defeat a bigger opponent, but from what I see, your opponents can see you coming in and they can perform the appropriate block/deflection before you even get started.

  • Well my sparring partner in this video is six foot two-- somewhere in the six foot range really, and I had alot of trouble taking him on considering that I'm roughtly 5'4. Still, I tried my best and thats all I can really ask of myself.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • @scbsee88 actually yeah i agree but if the little dude is able to get around i think itll be a good match up thats my opinion anyway, i used to spar with some one who was very good at martial arts and he was like 5 foot i think and im 6 foot he and i know wing chun and sum other kung fu and he really tires me out, i still win since he gets really cocky, but thats why you spar, so you can learn, i learned that from dragon ball z :D

  • if their arms are not hard then what is the wooden dummy for?

  • That's their fists.

  • This is wicked man. At the moment i box. I thin if you move around more, do faints it will help your attacks to be unpredictable.

But awesome. Im thinking of doing wing chun next and then prehaps JKD

  • I've thought about doing Wing Chun, but after training seven years in Tang Soo Do, it's very hard for me to learn it. I took a few Wing Chun classes and it was hard for me to learn it because I had been doing Tang Soo Do-- you know the old saying:

"How can you fill up your cup if it's already full? Empty it first!"

And I think I need to empty my cup first.

  • Why are you wearing a red belt dobok with a black belt on? 0_o

Anyway, cool stuff. I just started TSD and I'm finding it quite enjoyable. Can't wait to test for my first coloured belt. =)

  • Well first off, I would like to clarify that I am not a black belt yet, but a Cho Dan Bo-- otherwise known as Midnight Blue belt and will be testing for black belt soon. The reason why my doh bohk has a red collar on it is because this is my old doh-bohk and I haven't gotten a new one yet.

  • Oh, I see. That's cool. =)

  • tang soo do was nice my comment is on the wing chun guy? If he really is studying wing chun then there are lot of openings for him to attack and counter an incomming attack. May guess is he's not much knowledgeable about his art. Nice clip though. Keep it up. And the guy in the clip? keep practicing your stances, attacks, and defence. Practice brings us closer to perfection everytime.

  • &fmt=18 put this after the original of any video url and enjoy good picture and video quality, in this case, good music too... :)

  • awesome once again man !!! Tang Soo Do looks pretty awesome I didn't know it was this cool.

  • Glad to know that you enjoy this video here! Tang Soo Do is pretty cool, but be open to other arts out there as well-- I plan on doing Kyokushin later on.

  • Much respect dude, first for having the guts to go up against a big guy like that (even if it is friendly sparring I doubt many people would fancy their chances) and secondly for having the wisdom and courage to leave your comfort zone and pressure-test your art like this. All of us martial artists should do this. If you're ever in the UK we should meet, you can see if you can avoid my judo throws and submissions and I'll try to avoid getting a fist or foot in my face :)

    Peace out

  • I am glad that you enjoyed the video! It means alot hearing from another martial artist to encourage another to go out and see the other arts and see what they have to offer to each other. You learn something each time when you fight another art, and you learn something about yourself as well.

Again, thank you for the comments and I'd love to fight a Judo practicioner sometime!

  • I am NOT the Wing Chun practicioner in this video, I am the Tang Soo Do fighter in this video-- I'm the smaller fighter in the karate gi.

  • Actually your size is to your advantage, but the other Yakshinian was saying was correct, if you approach without the fear of getting hit. You wont be in fear of getting hit. But your good at the style of fighting that you do. Just remember, like you said, the style that you are training with is good for point fighting. I stop doing American GoJu because of that, it wont fully help you in street combat. I love wing chun though, great form like the others that are meant for combat.

  • Thats actually the most encouraging comment I have gotten here! Thank you for the comment!

  • This is why current martial artist should be well rounded. You should specialize in an art that you enjoy but be familiar with other styles as well. If one art is not working you should be able to flow into another. You can not control how your attacker is going to fight. God bless Bruce Lee and his philosophy. I want to be good in the kicking, punching, trapping and grappling ranges.

  • Well I look forward to training with the Wing Chung fighters once more in order to incorperate some techniques into my Tang Soo Do.

  • Well I could do that but WHY would I want to do that to my friend? O_o

  • constructive criticism: if your friend is bigger and knows trapping you can't beat him with tang soo do, it's very unlikely that you do. my advice is learn the stomping strikes from baji quan, the ones that sound really loud. then trick him into getting at clinch distance and throw the rib shattering elbow, even if he intercepts a strike like that his parrying arm will be broken

  • the killer elbow kinda exposes your face but the worst result you can get is a double ko

  • Your two main disadvantages are really one disadvantage. 1. You are scared of getting hit. Getting hit is part of fighting. 2. You are nearly facing away from him as you advance. This way you always get turned around. Face him not only with your face but your hips and body too. Use your arms too. relax relax relax.

  • I'm not going to lie, I'm not that experienced a fighter considering that my dojang teaches mostly tournament point-style sparring and I'm not used to the street fighting style, so I'm trying to adapt to it.

Also, as you know, I have alot of problems when it comes to fighting taller people.

  • thats hardly a fair fight is it.. lol

  • Well he does have the height advantage, so it's alot harder for me to get in.

  • And thats what I am trying to fix here, I am trying to add in more fist techniques and close ranged combat moves.

  • did you try the mobility eliminating technique yet???? did it work

  • I haven't sparred anyone in a month or so, and I've yet to learn more immobilizing techniques here.

  • think: every move should be an immobilizing technique. Don't bother moving if it won't controll him. Only make moves that control him. Think: win the fight once it begins and then move in to claim victory.

  • I posted a comment on the other video as well, but I just thought of something. When he lifts that leg up to block, switch stance and with the other leg, not the one he was blocking, kick to the inside of his knee.

  • I saw your response to my other video, but I accidently hit remove instead of reply; anyway I do agree with you that as Tang Soo Do practicioner, we RARELY use elbows and knees, and I believe it's important that we use those.

    Also, thanks for the tips!

  • the wing chun grandmaster said himself, - the best kung fu styles are not pretty.

  • I wouldn't know anything about kung-fu, considering that I am a Tang Soo Do practicioner.

  • so am i... tsd is 60% so bahk do, 30% northan china kung fu and 10% southern china kung fu...

  • Oh I know it has Chinese influences in it, but wasn't Hwang Kee also influenced by Okinawan Karate as well with it?

  • probably, he was a great martial artist who studied many styles. you and your friend should make a team, and find two others, that would be cool. i would hide behind your friend! lol

  • use the feint !!! use falase atacks !! and follow whit real one when he are distract

  • Well I tried out combinations but he would parry them out successfully-- still, good suggestion!

  • I'll be sure to remember that! But I can't out muscle him, so throws and grappling are out of the question here-- he is after all much bigger and heavier than I am. I figure staying in close range and finding an opening and exploiting it would be good...

But as you can see, that alone is difficult.

  • They are-- they are fast and devistating. I should know... I took some!

  • hey there, my masters taught me that when fighting a taller opp.. to get in as close as possiable to limit their mobility..short powerful moves....as im sure you already know... be the first move and be crazy, it ...scares them....Tang Soo!

  • Hmm... I'll be sure to try that next time!

  • I noticed that when I watched the video for the first time..

  • Thank you for your comments. The Wing Chun practicioner in this video is a blue sash, where as I am a Dark Blue belt (the last belt before black) and in this fight, it was really hard for me to fight him since this was my first time in fighting a Wing Chun fighter, especially at his height.

Still, I managed to get in a few shots here and there!

    Thanks for watching!

  • jesus that guy is 10ft tall.. maybe lower your stance more? force him to bend down or use kicks..

  • Hmmm... Well I tried going for leg attacks but always seemed to raise his legs as a defense, also since he has height on me, it's alot harder to fight a guy like that. He's one of the more taller people I've fought and I'm not gonna lie, I have trouble fighting taller people.

I managed to get in a few body shots on him with punches though.

  • tough match ...thats how i feel after sparring my masters.. where am I going????

    keep going.....Tang Soo!!

  • Well I try my best to fight at the peak of my ability.
