@MazzaJF same here brother. but, its ok, we have plenty of torch passers who have learned from his ways and are still spreadin the word. im actually about to show my bf the "bill hicks live" stuff, and then Im gonna cram in American: the bill hicks story. this guy can play any drum line from aemina and lateralus, and he needs to understand "why bill?" and there are plenty of reasons.
by the way if anyone noticed, yesterday was 17 years since his passing. to the day. Long Live the King. Thank you, brand new cadillac, darlin', thank you.... Brand new cadillac.
@LedZepfan122 if you took it literally. but I feel as though I martyr my soul and self everyday in the name of saving it, but it doesnt fit well in this society, its gettting closer though. the closer we get to not taking things so literally, we come to the true spirit of things. Besides if "Get off your fucking cross, we need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr" makes you think of Jesus, do you really have that much faith? Its just my opinion, you dont have to agree.
@DisgustipatedUlaji True, we'll never know the true meaning behind a song, some of my songs are called one thing but mean something different, no one but Tool actually knows the meaning, and the lyrics do remind me of Jesus, he did something simillar in APC, in the song Judith Maynard said "Fuck your God" to his mother because she thought that God existed and hes saying well how could you worship a God that made you like this
@Muff0o0 i was pretty sure that it was. and i know im not the only one with that opinion... there are clues, if anyones really looking. im still waiting for people to realize what the words i typed in were all about, but no ones mentioned it yet. woe are the days of itunes, and a lack of album art for the masses... woe... hehe
@Muff0o0 dedication is diff. from content. Eulogy is about a martyr. Hicks wasn't a martyr. " He had a lot of NOTHING to say..." is not something you say about someone you like. Hicks and Tool were friends, this song isn't about him. I'm not taking this literally, i'm taking it logically. You may want this song to be about him and I can respect that, but it doesn't make sense.
I really don't think this song is about Hicks. I can see why people think so, but "a lot of nothing to say"? The album was dedicated to Hicks; I doubt Maynard would say he had a lot of nothing to say.
@Lateralus8808 ever have a situation where you meet someone, thinking "this guys is just like any other guy like this" not to mention when youre already on a path of self enlightenment. you never know who is really going to make a difference to you until after theyve done it. not realizing a "savior" until having been "saved". thats just one perspective, to get hung up kills the point of having your own idea of what it may be. so what do you think?
i love your comment, its unmuddied, unbias. when I think of bill, I think he wanted to BE jesus... but in the end, we're all jesus... and we need to get right with that. "jesus" is a manmaded label for "a sense of devine self". how do I know? the hills and trees told me so... and they feel sorry for those who dont listen. Crazy? maybe. but devine and pure. something those words cant describe, bill knew it though, and he tried to tell us , too. thank you.
sometimes i think insanity is the most moving and beautiful thing that ever happened to me, but after that gift the gravity here pulled harder. thats the ride thought, right? I have to keep reminding myself. keep going. thanks for stopping by, people like you make it easier "in the now" then Im worried about "the later". heh. thanks again.
@Poonard Indeed. I listen to ALL people now. But I used to 2. I have allways been "awake" Knowing that theese pathetic lives we are told to live, and have the feelings they want us to have toward certain groups of people. I say fuck, erase all your rasicism and grow up. Treat EVERYONE as if they were yourself, because WE are: ) Peace, brothers and sisters unite<3 Erase Races, ONE FAMILY, forget the past because it is FAKE. Bee free, take it as far as YOU want and dont take my advice<3
that is a good point of view, from what i've "heard" Maynard doesnt really care much for the theory. My only issue with the theory that the song is about L. Ron Hubbard is the emotion in the voice as the song draws out. I'm pretty upset about the theory that since I've slept with girls that I'm going to go to hell, but I dont see myself trying to create bass lines with heartfelt screams of my shameful pussy cravings. Just a thought. Always questioning, even question Tool. Shine on.
I always thought it was the biggest reason. Then again, like I've thought before, he could have been singing about himself. who knows, but its up to us to continue to question. thats the reminder. shine on, thanks for the point of view. shine on.
Thank you for the comment, for all we know Maynard may have been singing to himself, about his own self sacrifice, and anger, but who knows? But there are many who have speculated that it was about Bill. Again, who really knows? Thanks again. Nice channel by the way, shine on.
you do realize that this song is acually a mock to jesus christ, instead you should've played third eye, you know the tool song that actually qoutes him?
as far as tool goes, if you listen from many perspectives, all the songs could be taken far out of context due to the level of duality in the lyrics. I could be right, YOU could be right. The point is its art, and its abstract, the meaning is left up to us, just like reality. Go wipe your eye clean, you'll hear it. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks, the art on the guitar was actually done by Alex Grey, if not, then by a HUGE fan. I thought it was fitting. And no, never forgotten, if its up to us. Thanks for commenting, shine on.
thanks man, its good to see you actually read what I typed about it, lol. a good vid to check out "Bill Hicks connection with Tool." I actually posted this vid as a response to that one. Take care, shine on.
thanks jciv... again, its just one point of view... but I dont think Maynard meeting Hicks in a comedy club in '92 just stopped there. I truly think he lost a great friend. We all did. In a perfect world: "Hicks for President!" but would he have taken it? Who knows.
I wish he was still here

I never thought this song was about Bill Hicks as a kid and I still don't. Only 5% of the lyrics sound like they're referring to him.

I thought it was Jesus' eulogy, the last lyrics give it away clearly as that

the song was made to mock Ron L Hubbard: the guy that created scientology.
