I'm almost Irish. My Great grandparents left Eire and crossed the ocean and though I'm American, it's true...it only takes an ounce of Irish blood and the Isle calls out to you. This song makes me cry and I am not a nutty sort of person. If ye have any Irish at all in ye..ye hear it. It's a curse and a blessing.

The Green & Red of Mayo song sure hits the strings of this American-Irishman's heart. My grandfather was born in Kilmeena County Mayo just north of Westport. From the family homestead farmland you can see Crough Patrick to the Southwest. My Cousin Michael Joe still lives there & has a single palm tree and sign on his front lawn. The sign I believe reads "Reef View" refering to the mound of Crough Patrick. .

@nalla3 we went on holiday to westport, visited a place called Louisburgh and got the ferry (well I say ferry more like a fishing boat) from Roonagh which is a couple of miles from Louisburgh, just like it says in the song, its absolutely beautiful on the island, theres a pub to get a drink and something to eat but not much else, its so peaceful, hope this helps x
