It's striking that Tom doesn't seem to realise he overlooks the boxes here. In contrast, he surprisingly mentions "the relationship between the stage and the pit" THREE times. Why? Why doesn't Tom mention the boxes? Tom seems most interested in the people in front of the stage. The people on the sides, in the boxes and stage-boxes, seem less important to him. This is a grave error. Having people on the sides of this stage floor are key to learning how to make this space work.
