That thing is basically just burning, releasing small amount of smoke, because you have the top open. In short you shouldn't have the top open. Close the top, drill hole, attack spaula through hole so that it sticks 2 inches out of the top. Its even beter if you bend it over so the smoke goes in the other end. That way you get the most clean white smoke.. Even legendary smoke bomb that size could release lots of smoke if done properly, but clearly more than in this video.

Im pretty sure you made a mistake somewhere, try capping off the top and poking a very small hole in it, you should never see flames and leads me to believe the nitrate is oxidizing the wax which would not produce smoke.

THE NOZZLE IS NECESSARY!!! Otherwise the smoke will just combust, producing very little smoke. Yes, there will be a flame for a little while after ignition, but, if you did it right, it will become smoke. In a 3/4 inch tube, a 1 inch layer of fuel should burn for at least 1 minute.

Try this:

16g sulfur

12g KNO3

1g fine charcoal

Screen mix to break up sulfur clumps, pack into 3/4 inch inner diameter tube with an1/8 inch nozzel that goes through the top clay plug and ~1/2 inch into the fuel. DO NOT BREATH SMOKE!!! This stuff is almost like tear gas!
