  • Black diamonds as a gift??? Lord have mercy. I love Oprah.

  • whitney houston and aretha franklin weren't there... hmm..

  • OMG! Pam Grier and Michelle Obama standing side by side!

  • Mariah is such a diva she and Janet were gossiping together in back waving her fan across her hair probably talking about Beyonce Lol

Mariah : "Oh darling your looking fabulous

    Janet : "Thanks"

Mariah : "Do you see that shaking ass hoe"

Janet : "Ki ki ki i see no hood rats in the room"

    Lol

  • Chaka and Tina 3:26 ah made me cry

  • To see Chaka Khan and Tina Turner together. Heaven!

  • They owe mass media inventors their lives... Where's the reparations for the rest of us who aren't jiving folks... Why you think they showed up... the menu? Nope... if O giving cars to "regular folks", you know she gonna hook another industry sister up... African Slave Diamond Style!!! Thanks for honoring ALL our elders... Thanks

  • Why are women so emotional, when they opened the boxes all of them were crying.

who paid for those earrings with real diamonds

  • @TheGoldenEyedboy Of course they got emotional. Those earrings cost $200,000 EACH. Oprah paid for all them.

  • @LuigiKwok how do you know how much they cost and did you say they cost two hundred million dollars each

  • @TheGoldenEyedboy $200,000 is two hundred thousand. She gave out about 45 earrings, so that should cost about $9 million. *Phew*

I googled it so I know.

  • @TheGoldenEyedboy Oprah.

  • @TheGoldenEyedboy I would guess those diamonds where perhaps $3k each...About 40 women where there....Oprah spent a min of $120..max $250..she made that much while I was typing this reply.

  • Why wasn't Whoppi Goldberg there, why couldn't Oprah have invited her, what about Harriett Tubman

  • Where was Jackee and Anita Baker???

  • OPRAH WAS DRUNK! OMG!

  • lol love their reaction after they opened the boxes hahaha

  • i got more respect for Oprah after seeing these vids :(

  • Saying Oprah is awesome is an understatement. No one is perfect; everyone has personal, social flaws or opinions you would not like, but I don't see how anyone can say something negative about her personally. She is new; she is beyond what anyone has ever done.

  • Well, love Oprah, but black slave dimond? Was bad idea!

  • Where was Witney Houston?

  • Comment removed

  • Respond to this video... Witney couldn't make it. Too busy fuc&ing Bobby and snoring her crack.

  • @msvalentineful And Aretha Franklin, Whoopi Goldberg?

  • @enmaxus My thoughts exactly....Whoopi was your friend in 'The Color Purple'? Lol

  • @enmaxus yeah, ree and nippy are missing here

  • @msvalentineful with bobby hahahhahhahaha oprah left alot of people out that shouldve been there.

  • I'm a black man watching this...with tears in my eyes...My God....This is just beautiful...

  • Oprahs fuckin awesome and she shows her love in so many different ways..All the time!

  • Oh wow....Mrs. Obama was there, we didn't even know that she would be our future and very first black first lady @ 2:00.....awesome

  • I WANNA KNOW, WHO THE HEFFA' WAS WHO ASKED, "ARE THEY REAL?!"...lol...Oprah, should've said, "are your teeth real, hoe?!"...lol

  • Loving Kathleen Battle and Leontyne Price together!! wow!

  • 5:14...Diana Ross' face..LMAO!!!

  • @kawandebose def might be one of the reason i find diana ross HILARIOUS LMFAO!!!!!

  • lol 5:14 Mariah is like "omg!" where as Diana is like "yep diamonds... all in a day"

  • I think Leotyne Price questioned if the diamonds were real. I say this because of the way she looked at her earrings. I feel confident that whoever asked the question didn't say it to be rude but was shocked and unbelieving. It was an expensive, surprising and unbelievable gift to receive.

  • some fool asks if they are real as if oprah woudl give you a fake diamond, i mean PUHLEASE! where do you think you are.

  • ofcourse they're real lol it's coming from oprah!!!, lol!!! =)

  • OMG Oprah is too much when she tipsy.

  • Man i'm mad somebody stole Patti's gift. lol

  • even thought i luved this special, its kind of sad that the potential youngin's at the ball aren't relevant today in 2011 like they were when this aired. i.e. Ashanti, Brandy, Mariah.

  • "Theres nothing greater than thank you. Thats what you say to God, is thank you." YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! MOTHER MAYA... LIKE A FIYAH SHUDDUP IN MAH BOWNEZ LAWD!

  • Mother Angelou that VOICE! Man she is so intelligent.

  • "of course they are real!!" LOL

  • I wonder who asked if the earrings were real or not. That was real bama as if Oprah would give them fake diamonds. LOL

  • I love all the expressions around the tables - especially Debbie Allen, Melba Moore, Mariah & Tina....but the shot of Mary J. Blige and the narration by her & Phylicia Rashad was the icing on the cake for me. Oprah, have another Legends Ball and have some of your viewers come and sit in! I'll be first on the list! :-)

  • Please look at Oprah's face at 7:41 after ALL the food and ALL the drinks... she looks done! And on the verge of vomit. LOL bless her heart :)

  • I did not know that Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen are sisters in real life. Never knew

  • @deestar54 :O wow i didnt know that either thanks for pointing that out =)

  • @deestar54 They a sisters. Phylicia Rashad's maiden name was Phylicia Ayers Allen. She is the oldest of the two sisters by two years. Phylicia was born in 1948 and Debbie was born in 1950.

  • Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart... Long live Dionne! Aretha's version was cool, but Dionne's version had more of an orchestral sound.

  • "I don't know 'bout the ravioli."

  • "There's nothing greater than thank you. That's what you say to God: "Thank you."-Dr. Maya Angelou

Oprah has been given so much because she gives so much. It's true that if a hand is closed, than nothing can be taken out of it. But, you can't put anything into it either.

  • "There's nothing greater than thank you. That's what you say to God: "Thank you."-Dr. Maya Angelou

  • I came back to watch this to remind myself that there are young people looking up to me, so I cannot give up...I must press on despite oppositions and obstacles.

  • 5:50 - "Of course they're REAL!" Who in their right mind would dare ask OPRAH of all people if the diamonds or any gift she gives is real? LOL

  • Yes it would have been nice to be there but we must remember that there are these same types of women in our lives. They might be our great grandmothers, grand mothers, mothers, aunts, sisters friends of the family, teachers, and more. Mother's day is coming soon, let us celebrate them in some way that day to let them know how grateful we are to them as well as how much we love and appreciate them.

  • Strong black women!

  • so inspired by Oprah in more ways than I can express.

  • I wish i could have been there too

  • Oprah provides light in the sea of darkness that is modern America. Oprah is the center of my belief. Oprah, I speak your name.

  • I just love love love Patti and Tina being together. Two of my favorites!

  • was i the only person that notice that michelle obama was there or what

  • @t3ree1 yess oprah pretty much had obama predicted as the upcoming president all the way from the beginning didnt u notice?

  • thanks you for shareing this god bless you

  • @ 5:15 mariah carey's face

  • So much better than a car...no jokin but this was awesome...

  • the love in this video makes me believe that everything will be ok. I want to give every one of these women a hug and tell them that they are wonderful

  • How wonderful!

  • i love the fact that Mariah can swing both ways. if there would be an event similar to this but the difference is it's honoring legendary white women, Mariah would definitely be there too.

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND LEGENDARY...

  • Look at all of these amazing black women. I am so proud of my heritage!

  • OMG..Oprah did a wonderful thing....just wonderful,...i am in tears...wish i could have been a flower on one of those tables...beautiful..black...strong..gifted women...OMG..this was awesome and touching to watch.....

  • Check out our First Lady....back in the day!

  • Whoa! Around 2:14 gave me chills.... oh and when Oprah says that ya the gifts are extravagant, but they still aren't enough! *sigh* Praise GOD!! WoW!

  • debbie allen made me laugh!

  • I wonder who asked OPRAH were they real?? lol REALLY? lol

  • @Playa0506 lol right, it's oprah your dealing with hahaha, hello she gives cars away, lol!

  • it wasn't until tina turner threw her hands up when they opened the jewelry boxes that i realized how extravagant the earrings were. ms. tina has seen it all!

  • never let anyone say that Oprah can't move an audience...no matter who's in it.

  • who is the older lady at 17 seconds??

  • Opera singer Leontyne Price.

  • @chicagomarchingbands the legendary Ms Leontyne Price.....FIRST african american opera singer

  • I love Diana's expression. Shes very classy and does not need to scream and make a spectacle of herself..

  • @tbyjb i know she soo calm, lol~~~ (DIVA BEHAVIOR!!) LOL LOVEE IT!

  • We all owe a debt of gratitude to these women! And we should thank Johanna for posting these vids!

  • I swear lmao, who asked "are they real"? Smh...I want to meet Miss Ross the Boss.

  • Debbie Allen reaction is Priceless !!

  • Maya Angelou about to make me testify! "Saying thank you... there is nothing greater than thank you. Thats what you say to God, is thank you"

    Tina Turner is pretty

YOU BETTAH SHUT UP DOCTOR A! Lawd lawd how blessed is is with wisdom.

  • @wariolover LOL!!! Sista spoke that benediction, didn't she????? ALLELUIA!! Thank you, HEAVENLY FATHER!!!! Thank you!!!

  • How many times can I rate it, because I rate everytime I watch. This is my favorite video. I love it.

  • Dude Debbie Allen was LIke i would have been AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! lol Love 2 death

  • I know right! her expression was so great i love Debbie Allen lol

  • That was beautiful you know they really appreciated it... Tina Turner, Halle etc they all can buy 100 diamond earrings but they were so excited and appreciative

  • Debbie Allen @ 5:05 is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!

  • @polobear1975 LOL yeah..I thought Natalie Cole was having a heart attack LOL

  • 5:49 !!! U know my people yes they real! ha ha

  • at 2:37 Elizabeth Catlett, the artist/sculpter is highlighted. She's still with us at 94 years of age. And her grand-daughter is Naima Mora, who was the Cycle 4 winner of America's Next Top Model. The amount of art that Elizabeth has blessed us with is just staggering....born in Washington DC, my hometown.

  • mAKIN IT CLEAR OPRAH INVITED WHITNEY AND ARETHA...LOOK AT THE BEGIINING THAT WHEN SHE HIGHLIGHT ARETHA'S CAREER!!! SHE WOULDNT HIGHLIGHT AND DONT INVITE..DUH!!

  • absolutely, as classy as Oprah is, Im thinking that Aretha, Whitney, Lena and Eartha Kitt got invites. Bottom line, these are still working women we're talking about here. And as much as Im sure all of them would have loved to have been there, there had to be other commitments that had to be honored. I did hear that Lena Horne wasnt in good enuf shape to make it..but thats just one individual out of God knows how many that couldnt make it. And Aretha doesnt fly, so thats her excuse.

  • At 0:44, Miss Ross looks so lonely and sad.

  • i think she was being reflective.....it was very moving and we we're not even there.....miss ross is still da boss

  • @andydiana hi my friend ANDY. Diana wasn't alone she had too many people who love her there Brandy, Mariah and her good friends NATALIE TINA and ROBERTA (at the least)..she was not lonely

  • I wanna know the heffa's name that asked if the earrings were "real"....lol...tell that bitch to call a fuckin cab!!!!..LOLOL.

  • neither one was invited.

  • So, easier for you to say that they werent invited, instread of just saying "I dont know if they were"..or you could've just not said anything. Because I found out this afternoon from a credible source that they WERE invited. Aretha is still afraid of flying and Whitney was dealing with some serious family issues, with her Dad's bad health and her marriage.

  • Wow! @ the way Halle Berry is leaning her head on Maya Angelou's and how Tina Turner is resting her head on Halle's shoulder. What an amazing moment caputuring the uniting of the three generations of incredibly talented and beautiful black women!

  • I love Oprah! I do believe that she and I will cross paths in the near future!

  • lol@ debbie allen. i wish i was there. not for the gifts but just to be in the presence of all that beauty, talent, and strength. oprah's the bomb

  • This poem was britantly written by Pearl Clege. Phenemenal and how true. I would have been speechless sitting in that room with Coretta Scott King, Ciecely Tyson, Shirley Caesar, Ruby Dee, Leontyne Price, Maya Angelou, Della Reese, Gladays Knight, Patti Labelle, Diana Ross and so many countless others. This is just unbelievable to have that much talent in one room but that displayed so much love. I mean just thinking about that poem and how they really were trailblazers who opened many doors.

  • My Favorite Legend, bracing the moment Miss Diana Ross... Love Her...

  • 0:49 look closely...

Janet..keys..carey..blige..missy..Hallie..anglie...dope right there at that moments my fav all 2ghter

  • 1:38 -1:42 love them women
