  • I was in the 298th Army band with Chet in 1947 in Berlin, Germany. He was 17 years old & had a fantastic ear then. Wasn't a very good reader but could play anything, We had a great time while in the Army. Also Bob Badgely was with us & leader of the dance band.

  • The muted trumpet is perfect.

  • Chet is the best. I always loved his singing

  • you forgot to mention that, if baker used a vibrato, it was the most perfect vibrato ever to be heard.

  • @splitsock You are right.

  • Listen carefully: Chet does use vibrato although only "lightly" and only to ornament certain sustained notes.

  • Always so romantic and smooth! Tahnks to Leslie Robinson, wherever she may be, for lending me that cd back in the Berklee days... Much love! Max!
