i'm an amateur thinking about trying out bongos, how much does a pair cost? i know there's prob like hundreds of kinds of bongos, but l any pair that's of good quality, how much would that run me? Thx.

Nice demonstration of how to play for amateur intermediate players. Don't try to be too clever or play too fast - be sympathetic to the beat, be consistent - and play with enjoyment!
Thanks for putting these up here. Lifetime dashboard dummer, finnally bought some bongos, Matadors like yourself. Anyway I really enjoy just jamming along with you. Great way to learn and stay in the pocket.
dashboard drummer! haha! i've never heard it put like that. i love it. i've always been tap-tap-tapping on any surface that carries a percussion sound, and i now have a name for it!
i'm new to the instrument and your videos have been very helpful. starting with the basic rhythm and adding to it as the tune progresses has helped me to practice some of your syncopations/polyrhythms gradually. thanks a lot. the most helpful instruction i've found on youtube.
No seas malo me podrias hacer un faborsote, ojala tengas oportunidad de subir el ritmo de bolero con algunos remates porfa te lo agradeseria infinitamente, gracias y eres muy bueno me gustaria tocar como tu cuidate.
I'm also drumming and my favourite bongos are made in Germany by Schlagwerk Percussion. They are called wooden bongos because they are completely made of wood and have a very special nice sound. Besides they look very nice and pimp up every setup by their unique sound.
I absolutely love Bebel Gilberto - have every one of her albums. Thanks for posting. Now of course, this makes me want to make an impulse purchase on a pair of bongos. *sigh* think I'll have to pass for now. Good work!
Hi there. First time commenting on Youtube. I really enjoyed this video. You are an excellent bongo player. A few of my friends have bongos, and I mentioned this video to them. Must say it's helped them a fair bit. ^^ I also really like the music at the end of the video. It helps me unwind. Can you tell me who does it? Many thanks All the best. Jamie! ;)
Hello Hekehotu. These bongos cost around 100 dollars, but I played many pairs before I settled on this sweet sounding pair. Many of their brethen, known as Matador bongos sounded terrible in the music store, but this pair sounded great and I never, ever let the drums get cold.
I'm glad you liked the rhythm, called the samba, from brazil,
Great drums and a great Bongocero at that, i have the exact same Matador bongos...well superficially at least, every one differs. I really enjoyed your video and playing along with you, keep making such excellent videos. Cheers.
well thanks! the dance and the music go hand and hand, the drummer and the dancer each follow and lead the other.... so often when you are struggling to learn to play or dance a rhythm or tune it helps to put the shoe on the other foot and to learn to dance it or play it... two sides of the same coin!
Hello, I would recommend at least a few personalized lessons to learn what is known as the martillo and some finger techniques so that you don't develop bad habits.
Thanks. These are just stock Matadors with stock LP heads. However there is an EXTREMELY wide variation among Matadors, many of them sound horrible. Hey, bro', are you left-handed? I noticed you're playin' with the small head to your right--I'm right-handed and play with the small head to my left--but that's no problem, since watchin' you play is making it easy for me to pick up what you're doin' and sharpen my own bongo chops.

Wow! I've just gotten a set of congas and bongos and I was getting frustraded because all that salsa and merengue stuff makes it sound so hard to learn but once I,ve watched u playing my countrie's native song it has finnaly given me another motivation to learn it and being that samba in my veins i'm already good at playing samba on the bongo. Now i hope to get good at the caribbeans rithms. Thanks for the ispiration Matt.
