A friend of mine wrote to MPB requesting copies of old Clyde Frog episodes. They sent him (for free) some film reels, which I suspect are the original copies of the episodes!!
@MSPublicBroadcasting Thanks. Lately I had been enquiring about Project Survival. I recall that there was no copyright date on that show (not even the teachers manual to that show that I looked at a kid had a date). I had suspected that 1971 would have been the year it was made. I sure loved that show:)
@Lupton2000 Of the nearly 40 children's programs they have done over the last 40 years, Project Survival is nowhere in MPB's vaults. That, or they might have done what every other broadcaster did in the '70s: destroy the tapes.
@johnnyafairbanksak Thanks. Somehow it does not surprise me that ETV would destroy the tapes once the show was deleted from the schedule. Project Survival was a big budget show for ETV (especially for circa 1973).
I really wish the original Clyde Frog shows were available in some format, somewhere. But I think someone emailed a reply to me back in 2008 that "...there are Rights issues." Oh well. A tiny sliver of my childhood sits in a coffin for the next 50 years while people argue about who owns it. That's just perfect. So all I get to remember about the show is that somebody had breakfast glop on their shirt when they got to school and somebody else made fun of them for it. And that wasn't nice.
By the way...I have the same video with the ORIGINAL music intact if you want me to upload it.
And Mrs. Cabobble's Caboose was produced by NPT (Nashville Public Television), not MPB. I also recall "About Science" not having a copyright date as well, but "About Safety" (which introduced us to Clyde Frog) had a 1973 date.
Wasn't there a show with an elderly lady, singing and a train? I can't remember the name for the life of me, but we used to watch it every morning in kindergarten.
I figured that Project Survival had to have been done from 1971 to 1973. 1974 was the earliest copyright date on ETV programs. Project Survival didn't have a copyright date.
Does anyone remember Project Survival? If so what year was it? It had to have been in the mid-70s. I LOVED that show. Remember Kadet Evor and all the blue men?
I remember part of that song:
Project Survival
We must save our lives
That is our purpose
In order to survive
If anyone has videos of that show, please post them:)
You need to release Clyde Frog on DVD. Or at least re-run them all on late-night feeds, along with Just Around The Corner, The Write Channel, Pennywise, the short story films, etc. Also other shows like InsideOut, Physics Demonstrations, etc. Mississippi ETV had some great shows that desperately need to be revived.
Except for The Write Channel, Media Mania, Geoscout (both from Cringevision), and the entire Tomes and Talismans series, there are not that many videos of MPB instructional shows on YT (especially the aforementioned Clyde Frog). They've produced more of these than anybody else in North America (sorry, TVOntario)!
And living in Mississippi from 1989-91, I didn't even know MPB did so many of these shows...though that psychedelic Mississippi Center for Educational Television ident from their early years -- if anyone has it, PLEASE put it on here!!! -- was such a trip!!

and by Sunday, I will have
sought like Icarus, to fly too high-
and far too lonely than I ought
to kiss the sun of east and west
and hold the world at my behest-
To hold the terrible power
to whom only gods are blessed-
and to have watched the discography of Clyde Frog.
