  • @maxonC4D you should renew this tutorial and upload it as a single video now that youtube allows 15mins +

  • I have a problem PLEASE HELP, when I paint it paints the pattern I painting on every single polygon.

  • @RedofYellow It sounds like you need to generate a new UV map, the current one seems to map the whole texture to every single polyon. A quick way is to make sure the object is editable, then use BodyPaint's Setup Wizard and on Step 2, make sure Recalculate UV is seleced and to the right of the setting, choose Optimal Angle Mapping.

  • @MaxonC4D Okay thanks, ill try it out! :)

  • @MaxonC4D Ok I tried that and then the textures became extremely pixellated, How do I keep the quality.

  • @RedofYellow It sounds like the texture needs to be much bigger - in the Setup Wizard, on Step 3, set Maximum to a much higher value, e.g. 3000.

  • @MaxonC4D I will check it out, all though I am using C4D to model assets for games in Unity3D and Unity3D only supports x1024 textures. Will this be a problem?

  • @RedofYellow In that case it sounds like you might need to apply multiple materials and UV maps to the same object, and to create the UV maps manually using commands like Start Interactive Mapping (there should be a quick example of Interactive Mapping in the manual for UV mapping an ear).

  • @MaxonC4D Okay, ill do some reading. Thanks!

  • hey, I have a small problem when I click on the function "Bitmap Fill" or any one of bodypaint, to get the picture, it is locked with a pointer, how can I unlock?

  • how do u import a working texture into bodypaint? i got a texture i made in psd and wont to tweak it in bodypaint.

  • Is it possible 4 me to make a thing in Zbrush and put it in this program 2 color it? I do guess it`s possible but i want 2 be sure plz respons.

  • @1337Wunderbaum Just export the object from ZBrush as an obj or fbx then open it Bodypaint.

  • what plug-in?

  • Does Studio R12 come with Bodypaint?

  • @Geoxile Yes, all current R12 versions of CINEMA 4D include BodyPaint 3D. To get to BodyPaint 3D, in CINEMA 4D choose Window / Layout / BP 3D Paint (for painting) or BP UV Edit (for editing UVs). To get back to CINEMA 4D, choose Window / Layout / Standard or Startup Layout.

  • @MaxonC4D So how does Cinema 4D compare to 3DS Max and Maya as a 3D modeling tool?

  • @Geoxile If you have a moment please search for "jet" on our channel and have a quick look at the jet modeling tutorial to get an idea of the polygon tools and subdivision surfaces (called HyperNURBS in CINEMA 4D).

  • @Geoxile Then why is it sold seperately? For $830 bucks?

  • @NightShiftMoggy Why are you asking me? I was asking him too -__-

Besides, sounds like he's a Maxon rep, I believe him.

  • @Geoxile sorry clicked the wrong post! But i see it sold seperately. Never seen it in combined with c4d.

  • @NightShiftMoggy Pretty sure Studio is the package version

  • @Geoxile There are 4 versions and bodypaint 3d is in all 4 versions. But also sold separately!

  • @Geoxile I used all programs such as 3DMax,Lightwave and Maya. I now use C4D. Its great. Cloner and mograph saves lots of time. Sweep nurbs, loft nurbs....makes modeling easy. Arrays are great. All apps can do the same thing, only C4D is more interactive and dynamic on the modeling process. The Open GL handles huge scenes like a champ. Lightwave slow but love modeling approach. Maya gives me problems with camera clipping but handles large files like c4d. Max....i just stay away from period.

  • So how does one import .abr (Adobe brushes) to the stand alone version of Body Paint 3D for use??? Thanks for posting videos otherwise.

  • thx great tutorial

  • i have a problem (actually question): IF you are familiar with lego games, they use moving images for their face emotions and stuff...How can i make a moving image like that (face) and use it on a model?

  • Is it possible that I can make the nature and bring it to move?

  • how did can i import the 3ds max file??

  • can you mirror while painting ? like when you do the right side it does the left side as well ?

  • @TheArkayProductions The only way to do mirrored painting at the moment is to mirror the UVs so that both sides share the same UVs.

  • @MaxonC4D thank you for video tutorial

  • Will it work with warcraft 3 models/skins? And is this realy a plug-in or stand alone app? I guess it's written in python becuase that's what maya uses for its plug-ins, oh and this is kinda outdated yet sice photoshop released its 3d paiting ability, so is there still use for this app?

  • How does this work for games, becuase games engeines import the textures adn everthing, its not WYSIWYG. I think photoshop is better.

  • wait... 1:02 is this gordon freeman?

  • @NicoderJunge malcom x

  • Ok i have textures made in photoshop already, what i want to do is take that and the model and remove the seams from the color/diffuse, how do i do that?

  • can I paint in UV Group? I have 2 UVGroup.

  • j'ai merais bien quon me dise ou je peut trouver des cours

  • can i ask something? you export the model directly from 3ds max to body paint and back, how? i cant read it...

  • here is a question, let say I create a model in Maya, and I don't unwrap the UVs(= use automatic uv layout tool!). Is it possible to paint on the model in BP3D and later on customize a new UV layout and assign it to the same object and then continue painting in BP3D? will the paintings remain where-ever they were on the object?

  • If you do any change on the UV layout, obviously the UV coordinates will be in a different position over the map file. The normal Workflow is to do a custom UV layout and then proceed to painting, either on BP3d or Photoshop. You should use the Automatic UV tool in the case you won't use PS, only tools like BP3D. This is because a customized UV layout is thought to make easier its edition on PS.

  • no you can't bodypaint is base on per pixel painting and not microvertex painting. if you don't want to unwrap it, you can paint on ZBrush or 3d Coat then generate the uv later on.

  • Ive downloaded the Demo for BP 3.5

I have a lightwave model I would like to paint. I have the UV set up in LW.

How do I use that UV to paint. I have one object mesh with 5 materials assigned to various parts of the mesh

I use the wizard and uncheck recalculate UV but it does it any,,,,

  • is bodypaint only for mac or windows as well?

  • It's for either platform. For windows it'll work on Vista 64 bit or 32 bit and on XP. On Mac it's made for Leopard 64 bit.

  • @MaxonC4D i know this is a bit late but i'm working in blender and by mistake i made the perfect character and when i saw your tutorial i realised it couldbe the solution to my problem. i was wondering if you could either tell me the format i should use to export the file into bodypaint and export or some means by which to transfer the textured image across and back. i downloaded the demo version (bodypaint_3d_r31_windemo) if that helps. no one at blender artist forum had any solutions. ps hny.

  • So, for video post production or any other CGI, UVW unrapping(manual) is not necessary at all?

  • I love this program

  • I got Bodypaint.......man....im a texturing master now :)

  • What steps did he use to put the image on the model?

  • How you "stamp" a texture on the object? I didnt undestand!! :( 6:38 - 9:00 ?

  • does blender work with this?

  • Are you serious?! It's 800$?!!!?!?!?!?!?

    OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG....

ok. I won't spend so much, but it's a great overview!

  • How do you use BP3D with an .obj file from a modeling application not mentioned above?

  • Wow! I need to get this NOW!
