At first I was wondering why Chen decided to go with the fried bacon and asparagus as I thought it would be a bit heavy or greasy. Turns out he steamed the bacon beforehand. That simple decision shows he's damn good.

I think Chen should get more credit for this battle, the theme ingredients arent popular in chinese cuisine thus tough for him. He is great, but both are winners a happy ending.

I think this match is great. Also I'm surprise that Chen can make such a wondeful dishes from foie gras which is not a common ingredient in chinese dishes. Coby also good by coming up the so call iron chef style dish.

These two episodes together make the best battle ever held in kitchen stadium. These chefs are simply amazing. There was no better way for this battle to end. It's too bad this version of IC did not last much longer past this battle because the battles could have gotten even better than this one (which would be just amazing).

The show ended on September 24, 1999 with a few weeks of competition leading to the King of Iron Chefs. I remember that, during the King of Iron Chefs challenge, Kaga said there were 304 challengers total...so I'm thinking that this episode probably took place in late July or early August 1999 since it would take a month to get the final four challengers through.

Well...I can say that this IS the BEST battle I've ever seen...I mean, the judges themselves just don't know how to give the score...It was truly the greatest battle so far...I really like the way Chen-san fought the Challenger on a very disadvantagous situation...I mean, give foie gras to chinese chef..? I can say that Chen-san must be a genius to be able to came up with the dishes that he made even just to tie the foie gras battle...
