It is wellacknowledged that Oriental people, in particular Japanese, live the longest with limited health complications. Diet is one thing (they eat a lot of fish for protein & fat, rice for carbs and limit the sweets & alchohol) but the other thing is Judo. It's PRETTY DAMN IMPRESSIVE a women of this age does Judo-a martial art where people chicken out from getting thrown/where those in their 40's complain about their joints/how they hate to fall. It made her stronger. Is she CHUCK NORRIS' MOM?
@ronki23 Actually most of that has to do with a robust medical system and easy access to diagnostics like CT scans and MRI's so that early stage cancers are caught in a treatable stage.
Couldn't figure out if it was saying she was right or wrong in sacrificing marriage for Judo, why Judo required her to be alone, or whether it was saying men should have accepted her as a warrior, but didn't. Surely, she could have married someone.
and I thought I had super dedication to the martial arts...this woman has fought time, sexism, and traditional beliefs to reach this level...this just blew my mind the amount of dedication she has, I guess I still have lots to learn...
im tearing when she said she devoted her life to judo and that was her marriage...she didnt know it would take this long, but she kept it up till now. bow my head to her!
i want to thank you for sharing this film on a truly remarkable lady an inspiration to both martial artist and admirers around the globe she is a gift and she should be honoured i bow to sensei Fukuda continued blessing be with you
Not just because shes good at Judo, but because she went against the odds and stepped outside of the ordinary individuals comfort zone to make a change for the better. Thanks to her contributions and sacrifices she will be remembered and appreciated for generations and centuries to come.
@H0tkebab I'm sorry, I just don't see it. You see someone really special, I see an old lady who really enjoyed running what ammounts to a gym with a stricter dress code for a long time, and was in turn enjoyed by her gym members. You clearly appreciate this woman more than I do, and if she inspires you for some reason who am I to judge.
it s hard not to cry at minute 8. thanks to Ichiro Abe for spreading judo in france. Thanks to Judo, Kano, Japan. This art and spirit changed my life from being impulsive and mediocre to fight against myself to imrpve the judoka in me. thanks to tradtional judo. your work has been more than useful.
Thank you so much for posting. So many people live for the moment and Fukuda sensei lived for a lifetime of teaching Judo. What amazing dedication and such an inspiration to all judoka!
The woman who was helping Fukuda sensei? That's MY personal sensei, sensei Shephard!! I am so honored and humbled to be taught by her, and by association, Fukuda sensei as well! Thank you so much for teaching me the way of Judo!
@cutemidget09 i train under sensei shephard too! she's an amazing teacher, its so hard to think that she lives in IL and trains in ST.Louis...after i learned about all that she has done i'm shocked she doesn't teach in japan. i love every1 they're at ki to kan, its such a great school. i'm so lucky to train under her and mike sensei. this is collin by the way, your channel didn't say your real name, who are you again? lol never the less i'll see you tonight, be there! :)
This women dedicated her life to spread Judo and its message. Being the last student of Kano and sacrificing everything she could have had (family, maybe wealth, etc) for the sake of spreading Judo ... she deserves the 10th dan and then a statue next to Kano at the Kodokan for being the only 9th or hopefully 10th dan female Judoka in the world. She has spread Judo to more places than the three recent 10th dans that were promoted in Japan about a year ago or so. That's just my opinion.
thank you for posting this, and i pray you get all the help you need...in terms of expertise and financing and so forth. you have obviously the inspiration and compassion already.
based upon her response (my interpretaion of it), it is a shame that it was beyond both her imagination and beyond her reality that she would find a husband who would see her greatness and be willing to fill a help-mate role for her. what a privilege and opportunity some man missed.
@SeanOMatic fair enough, but people are people an if you see no sense of regret on her part there, then we will just have to agree to disagree....., and i was thinking along the lines of both/and for her anyway.... in other words, for a man to say to her, what Gladys Knight's voice says in Midnight Train..."I'd rather live in [her] world, that live without her in mine...." In that sense, her world was/is rich enough for two, imho.
This film needs to get made. Link to your website. Join an internet forum called d-word for lots of good free advice and support on how to get it made and out to its audience. Good luck.

It's a cultural thing and it's hard to explain, but judo was her husband. She dedicated her entire life to it.
