This is about the early benzos...valium/libirum...in the 60's they were marketed widely and prescribed widely without much thought on doctors behalf...stress? Heres some. Works hard? Heres some. Busy schedule...heres some.
I'm in addiction studies at college. Yellow pill sounds like Valium, but there was actually a barbiturate (very similar to diazapam) called Nembutal that was called mother's little helper. I don't think Valium was actually invented yet..
@asahearts1 Yeah, it's Nembutal. Nembutal is a yellow pill taken as a stress reliever. It's similar to diazepam (Valium) in effects, but belongs to a different chemical class (Valium is a benzo, and Nembutal is a barbiturate). Nembutal is also called pentobarbitone.
@sixsixseveneight I dont know how to verify it but that part....da da da,da da dah,da da da da da da dah......man that sounds like Brian pluckin his sitar.......anybody else out there have an opinion on this,or can look it up or something.....you could be right there six,but even if its keith, its still a great little riff:).......

@porcupineinteruptus I don't think there's sitar on this one, it's an electric 12 strings guitar (vox?) / and I doubt the intro of Paint it Black is played on sitar either (there's some on the verses and the breaks only)
@porcupineinteruptus just curious, did the Stones really use a sitar? or was it an electric guitar played through an effects box? either way it sounds great every time I hear this tune :)

Fucking La Roch who speculated how to fabricate a drug that made millons depended on them; addiction - and is called Valium (Benzodiacin). The executive physician/bioengineer exposed this crime by La Roch and went to the press; then he was threatened to be assassinate, so he escaped to UK, where he still is under police protection, as far as I have heard.
La Roch should be paying huge compensation for the molestation they did to so many......
This song is about Valium. You will find your chosen form of reliance. They range from beer, weed, etc, and more gruesome from there on up. I do find it an ironic attack at the "older" generation at the time for doing the same or worse than they were blaming on the mid-60's youngsters...
It shouldn't be a drag getting old! I know I'm only 18 so I guess it's easier said than done, but I look at my parents, who are depressed about getting old because it means "they can't have fun", which makes them unwilling to go out there and have fun. Maybe the limitiations of age are more limitations of the mind than the body. Besides, age=experience=wisdom, well, at least for most people ;)
Ironically, its about Valium, and lets face it -- Valium's killed far fewer people than heroin, which the Stones would soon develop a taste for. Still, this song perfectly describes the prescription-addict, and it still bears listening to.
Still relevant today. Self-righteous suburbanites rely on pills to stay sane, then talk about how awful the drug culture is. Just replace valium with Prozac.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
This should have been (dr) HOUSE's Favorite song LOL...but he's not allowed to take PILLS on TV anymore...the DEA and AMA stopped his TV pill popping...UNDERDOG suffered the same fate in the 70's ..all his pill poppings were CUT OUT...what bullcrap LOL
Finally some good heroine at the streets again...Still greatful for my methadone. Just call Dr. Brewer. (he has luckely lost his license now, that motherfucker). But yeah, I am an addict, and I am not ashaimed, not proud. It`s an disease. I don`t ever think I get well, so... Yes, I`d like a big box of Karisoprodol now. So dr. please. cool text. This song always remind me of ... drugs. And doctors. I am in withdrawal of clonezepam. Oh, hell. A drug I`ve never been very found of. Better than none.
@lene2376 I've been where you are....and yes withdrawal is BITCH..I kick in jail the worst place ever, now Im 6 months clean off of "H" and Oxys, I admit I crave it all the time, but its not so strong any more...But if I can get clean anyone can...You just got to want it enough, if you can be selfish enough to get into it you gotta be selfish enough to get out of it. best of luck to you man!
@TheVictorianorton First time it hit me hard was on a family vacation. I packed enough for 1 week, we stayed for 2. Imagine my panic at learning this too late. I dosed up when I got home, but I got clean a short time after. Been clean 2 years now, and there still isn't a day that goes by i don't at least think of it. I feel much more alive now. I just have to keep my mind sharp, and stay vigilant. I'll never relapse.
@briant420 not to be a dick but you CAN die from benzo withdrawl seizures, sickness, etc. Heroin withdrawl WILL NOT kill you although you will want to die.
This isn't about Valium... this song was written in 1966, when it was believed you couldn't get a Valium overdose. This was about NEMBUTAL, which works like Valium and comes in yellow capsules.
Actually this song is about a troll that lived in Mick's pants. The troll helped him when he was feeling bad. Many times it jumped right out of his bum and said "Micky please!Have some more of these!"(These) meant songs that were to be released from the little troll. Mick took the troll's advice and now he lives rich and famous. . Of course everyone will tell you its about pills, but its really about trolls. Its too bad trolls sold out and now they just roam youtube. They once had a purpose.
I have good memories i guess .. And when I get older I bet those are the only things i will have. So I'll remember that comment @MrCagekicker ;)

Any drug can be abused and benzodiapines have many beneficial uses. The sins of the pharmaceutical industry are much more in the area of their pricing than anything else.

I must admit that I can relate to this song, though I'm not proud of the fact! Peace, BobbyK

Funny how this is the sixties. Now, mothers put their children on "mother's little helper."

My favorite Stones song!
jmcatrow 10 months ago
Ironically, its about Valium, and lets face it -- Valium's killed far fewer people than heroin, which the Stones would soon develop a taste for. Still, this song perfectly describes the prescription-addict, and it still bears listening to.

I'm studying the 1950s in history class, and how suburbian life affected women, and my teacher referenced this song. Yay for the Stones! :)
Sandra3594 11 months ago

Better than none.
lene2376 11 months ago
@lene2376 I've been where you are....and yes withdrawal is BITCH..I kick in jail the worst place ever, now Im 6 months clean off of "H" and Oxys, I admit I crave it all the time, but its not so strong any more...But if I can get clean anyone can...You just got to want it enough, if you can be selfish enough to get into it you gotta be selfish enough to get out of it. best of luck to you man!
TheVictorianorton 11 months ago
