We saw bears on three occasions, all quite close and within 200 metres. The most scary was when setting up camp we had a scout around for firewood and came across a den in the ground with fairly fresh kill in it. We got outa there real quick!! We only used two campsites and one had bear claw marks on a tree that looked recent too. Still recommend the trip as one of the best things I ever did tho'.My wife? Id have needed a boat load of solar panels to run her bloOdy hairdryer!!!
Hi Peatgreen, I did it with mates in August 2000. Bugs were not too bad while on the river or on the banks but in the woods were horrendous. We took protection but hardly used it at all. Mice were a problem in Carmacks campsite and we had stuff nicked from the tents too but what an experience. I wouldnt have missed it for the world.
wonderful, i'm jealous too,

I did this same trip fall 2007, in 13 days canoeing, my favorite camp was twin creeks campground and woodcutters camp. :)
