My grandmother and grandfather immigrated to USA at the beginning of XX century.
They are met there and got married after in Chicago.
But my mother was born in Belarus, but its a long story
BTW
I concern myself with genealogy researching and searching distant relatives of descendants of that immigration, here in Belarus, Poland and in Smolensk, Pskov regions of Russia
i love this peice of music and inturlude 2 because ellis island is close to my heart. my grandmother came over from italy and i feel like my marching band show this year is honored to her
@THxMCRxLOVER My marching band did too. My grandparents came over from Poland so I understand when you mean that this piece is very much close to your heart. It is also to mine.
I agree completetly with everything PIckettFence said. This is a beautiful selection of music, and I feel honored that my high school marching band has the opportunity to play several of Boyer's pieces in our show this year.
Boyer has achieved several things simultaneously by birthing "Ellis Island."
Like John Williams' score to "Star Wars," this work can be a door that opens for the musical lay person a deep & wide world of emotions, waiting to be experienced in classical music.
He's also reminded us in an entertaining, even inspiring manner, of the gift that it is to live in America.
Finally, in a day when our country seems to be so divided, Boyer reminds us of the common roots we share as Americans.
Simply stunning! The combined effect of the music, immigrant stories, and photographs is powerfully moving. I hope I can experience the full impact of this work at one of its live performances one day!
i saw this played live in bass hall like 2weeks ago. it was awesome

Amazing archival photos; beautiful music... this should be turned into a documentary. Love the Epilogue too.
