wow jo, you're the first one on YT to have Shuggie Otis vids (that I can see) -- can't believe it, my guitar teacher back in the 70's used to have me play him. i can see the appreciation you have for funk, soul, R&B and rock. keep in touch -- i like you already -- you actually return messages,talk and socialize and show friendliness, unlike so many of my you tube counterparts!

This reminds me also abit of Harvey Mandel's "Cristo Redentor" (although more imaginative)..maybe it's the string section that does it? Shorty Rogers had something to do with it.

I didn't know that you responded to me.

Anyway, it's from her "Dangerously In Love" album, and the track is called "Gift from Virgo"; basically, she's just singing over Shuggie's "Rainy Day".

...I know, it doesn't sound too creative, but, she does sing some nice harmonies in the background vocals. It is what it is (a SAMPLE, lol)!

Fans of Beyonce will realize that she used this ENTIRE song as a sample for a song from her first album.

It's a shame that this (then) young man decided to not release another album; this was a GREAT debut, waaay ahead of it's time. I hate remarkable talent doesn't get the credit due.

But I love this album, and my favorite tracks just happen to be the instrumentals :)
