  • Cousin Phil is the last one left from is boat that flipped after it hit a booby trap in a Viet bay. They were all left floating in Orange. Phil grew up in the woods, and ducked, swam long, surfaced far. Some of the guys gulped that stuff, and were gone in weeks. some lasted years. Phil lost a few feet of gut, and a bit of bone, and life ain't pleasant. Don't recommend it.

  • high on the roof,

    thin the blood

another one climbs the waves tonight

    coming into your home

  • "Orange Crush" is actually Agent Orange, the code name for one of the herbicides and defoliants used by the U.S. military as part of its herbicidal warfare program, Operation Ranch Hand, during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1971. A highly lethal chemical manufactured by Monsanto and stored in orange barrels. The purpose of the spray was to defoliate the countryside and therefore take away the ability of the Vietcong to support themselves. The chemical has had lasting horrific effects.

  • @plan9area51 agent orange was a 50:50 mixture of 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxy acetic acid and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid, both not very detrimental to health. The problem occured when the company making it did not regulate the temperature efficently and ended up with 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo[p]dioxin being produced in large quantities, this how ever will mess you up and also its does not degrade in nature easily.

  • @plan9area51 They still sell that stuff. It is legal to use and horribly dangerous.

  • For the people who it was dropped on, it caused (and still causes) thousands upon thousands of birth defects and permanently maimed more.

If you've ever heard anything about Bhopal, it did the same pretty much, except it was done on purpose.

  • This song is awesome ! Great message !

  • Great song!

  • dis my shit

  • wtf is agent orange?

  • @asthmaticcat237 Toxic gas used in the Vietnam war.

  • The part where you couldn't understand it is:

    Coming in fast, over me

    High on the roof

    Thin the blood,

Another one came in on the waves tonight

    Coming in your home

  • This song rocks.

  • agent orange was made in a chemical factory close to my house in bradford, england.. a place called mk's chemicals obv they didnt know what it was goin to be used for but yeah just thought id say

  • @slash1legend it was actually made by DOW Chemicals... my uncle is actually handling a class action lawsuit against them on behalf of thousands of Vietnam Veterans... just an fyi

  • What's the song at the end it sounds really familar

  • the song is called monsters

  • Agent Orange caused adult onset of diabetes in several thousand vietnam veterans, the Dept of the Army released its findings in 2003 and have since then paid for all diabetic based expenses for all vietnam era veterans, including my father, who was diagnosed with adult onset diabetes in 1981. it only took another 22 years for the US military to admit to the fact that agent orange was the cause.

  • @kajal33 40 yrs of this now, seems Obama may help I hope: & the Glulf War Syn, re: GWS what is it, the experimental vaccines? My friends tell me the vaccines made them sick right away.

  • @iluvflagunlaws well obviously most vaccines make u sick right away, iraq being a dry country has fuck all diseases, believe me bad shit thrives in humidity, i bet the g w syndrome is a result of some weird shit chemical to make ppl 'supersoldiers'. i would not put anything past the U.S government, eg just the CIA alone since it was created has caused the deaths of at least 60 million people (FACT), fuck knows what the other agencies and military divisions have done

  • @kajal33

Agent Orange was also used on the Korean DMZ

  • @kajal33 Let's not forget, moreover, what it did to the people of Vietnam, or to their homes and the land.

  • @kajal33 Actually it was far more than just diabetes.

  • @kajal33 and gave less of a shit about the millions of vietnamese it fucked up or killed

  • @kajal33 ever thought of the ppl it was dropped on???

  • @kajal33 My grandfather got throat cancer from Agent Orange; He's a retired Master Chief of the Navy (E-9). He had to get radiation and then surgery on his jaw to get to the cancer, removing part of his tongue and jawbone in the process. He can't produce saliva anymore and can barely taste anything unless it's in an extreme state, like super spicy or overly sweet. It's pretty sad because he wanted to be a chef right out of the Navy after 30 years and he got the cancer 2 months out.

  • @Ayzukiolover Thumbs up for Master Chief!, and he survived xD

  • My father was USAF and laid agent orange across Vietnam. Not only did it affect the people in Vietnam but also brought that sh@t back to cause birth defects in are newborns not to mention what it did to our soldiers emotionally and physically

  • People really are fucking scumbags.

  • Comment removed

  • ancients lol

  • lol duh

  • i didn't now this song was about agent orange .

  • did u know agent orange was made not far from where i live in yorkshire in england.. a place called mk's chemicals on wyke lane, obv they didn't know wat is was gonna be used for but ye that's where it was made

  • Yes i agree very much so my brother was killed in Vietnam. We should of made vietnam a parking lot like others who did the U S wrong

  • Even though the Us Government now admits that the Gulf of Tonkin incident that led the US into the Vietnam war never happened!? Your brother was a G.I pawn for the elite's NWO, sucker, Now he is in Hell !

  • He was doing his job, none of them knew, and neither would of YOU. Fuckin cocksucker.

  • wow thats an absolutely heartless comment

go be a goth somewhere else

  • Fuckup dick wad.

  • amen

  • Do you know what this song is about? not the drink it's about a guy who goes to Vietnam with something called agent orange during the Vietnam war before you say it's a dumb song learn about what your talking about XP

  • @Tanakaumi yeah it was a herbicide used by the US in vietnam, caused a tonne of mutations in vietnamese people and stuff. nasty shit.

  • Thanks for explaining something to an idiot, you've done the world a service. :)

  • The Vietnam war is a tender subject for me and people who bash the era really get o my bad side making me incredibly rude I hope I wasn't to harsh I hate to be rude but I have little patience for ignorance on the topic ^^

  • @Tanakaumi agent orange is the stuff the american used to undo the trees from their leaves.. its some kind of poisened stuff that they spray on all the trees so they could trace the vietnamese.. its poiseness for humans to... thats one of the first things the americans did before beginning to destroy the world...

  • @Tanakaumi and orange crush is i believe heroin or morphine

  • @mohawksaresexy2 It's actually referencing a herbicide they used in Vietnam called Agent Orange. They would have planes spread it over fields and it would fucking kill everything. To this day there are still tons of people who's lives have been destroyed by it.

  • @Tanakaumi actually, it WAS about that, but they re-recorded it as an Orange Crush ad. This song ended up being more popular than the original and it was lost to history

  • @Tanakaumi -- your position is stated with such confidence -- but , if we're talking bout THIS song as it is , i keep coming back to the impression i offered. Song sez things like "wheels in slush" - [SLUSH - not mud] --- "I know every truck stop " -- [truck stops in Nam ??] -- Plus, song sez he's got his "orange crush in his pocket". Add to this the tempo n spirit and lack of horror lament etc, --- Whatever M.S started out to do -or say -- I just don't see anything hidden.

    --see continued

  • @isaysee ok let me try and explain this, the original artist of the song said in two interviews that the song was about a football player being drafted into the Vietnam war forced to use the chemical agent orange >..<

  • @Tanakaumi --You certainly have the right to extend "Poetic Licence" over the rainbow if you'ed like to . Iv'e looked again and still find nothing but "ORANGE" to connect this collageic abstraction with V'Nam.. --- [ "trucks stacked on the *PAVEMENT*=? --- Countys, - not PROVENCES ]. ----PLUS, - original Artists like B.Dylan and M.Brando delighted in making up phony stories when interviewed just for the hell of it .I don't blame you for trusting REM - but they like headlines to.

  • @isaysee that's because the song was re recorded for a stupid commercial and it's original meaning was lost because people where more interested in a dumb drink then something more meaningful and had more impact on our country. and don't start making them out to be headline chasers either it wasn't a head line it was an interveiw where they talked about a lot of diffrent things the meaning of orange crush came up and the honestly explained the purpose of the song you can delud yourself

  • @Tanakaumi --Wow, I don't know where to start- 1= comercials are not stupid- 2= liking headlines doesn't make anyone a headline chaser- 3=suggesting that a song means what it appears to mean is not deluded --TO WIT= The Star Spangled Banner started out as English drinking song - but it's not about the English or drinking .A thing is what it is, not what it started out or was meant to be-Othewise we are all sperm and ovum or somebodies idea of a good time.ANYWAY,REM=G O O D !! - HAVE A NICE SAY-

  • @Tanakaumi Agent Orange was a defoiliant used in Vietnam to clear large parts of the jungle to cut down on the places the enemy could hide, it was usually dropped from aircraft. People who were exposed to it developed major health problems years later.

  • @Tanakaumi ----------------- continued --->> I say it's about speakin' out, ---standin' up ---- in other words, - being somebody. The singer is going on about circumstances, events - this/that and the other thing - But what is really happening is that the listener can see who he * IS *.

  • @Tanakaumi Originally this song was going to be called Agent Orange.

  • @Tanakaumi Agent Orange was a chemical the US Military over Vietnam to kill the crops to starve any NVA. In June of this year there was a news article about Agent Orange and its affects on the ground. I think it said something about that the ground is still contaminated or something.

  • @Tanakaumi The agent Orange is a combustive weed killer that leaves in the ground cancerogen agents and so it's very dangerous...

  • @Tanakaumi man, that's sickly, have you seen the Wikipedia article? it disgusts me that the Americans did that.

  • @Tanakaumi the drink is pretty damn good too

  • A canteen of both is useful in the jungle perhaps.

  • wots the song at the end- sounds like josh homme?

  • Seriously the best song on rock band!

  • ikr

  • finally i get to hear some music, the videos before this one were foot fetish videos crushing oranges i felt so weird

  • Lol, sick.

  • no, you saw the music video... LOLOLOLOL

  • High on the Booze,

    Paved in Blood

Nine Inch Howl, Brave the night,

    Coming in, you hope

This song is about Vietnam; and it's not just me saying that. (Wiki it if you don't believe me.) The military cadence and helicopter sounds in the middle adds to the effect. Stipe often opens this song in concert with the Army's recruiting jingle.....

  • You're close it is to do with Vietnam. Bt to be specific it's about the Chemical weapon "Agent Orange" and its effects.

  • FINALLY! =] i got a rem CD for last xmas..... it was live and this was the only song on the CD i liked and now... hehe now i can listen to the real song woot ^.^

  • great song.... sounds a bit like the tragically hip

  • Indeed. I heard this on the radio and thought it was the hip

  • This is quite possibly my favourite REM song.

  • well ive certainly got my orange crush =D

    love this!

  • i LOVE how the bass starts in the beginning da da da =)

  • What i was getting at is i hate politicians think they have to baby sit us

  • Their job is to represent the people and the people's needs/wants, and that's kind of hard if they don't deal with health care or business...

  • Ok do not get mad but I just want to post this as an opposing point of view devils advocate I don't know my stance on the issue but my dads a doctor and has explained it very well ok if your a doctor and you get paid the same no matter what why would you go to college for 9 years becoming a special doctor (which have been on very short supply since the 90's) when you can go to college 6 years and get paid the same? Doctors get screwed just look into it its not just doctors everything suffers
