  • Um, where's the "dancing". I only see hoop jumping, and I've seen circus dogs do that.

  • not smart.

  • Nice Dude!

Just try to studdy dance more, maby take some contemporary lessons, they will teach you how to flow with your movement and perform :)

  • cool tune too!

  • well...however impressive it is to wave a flaming hoop around, I wouldn't really call this 'real' fire hoopdancing. I would encourage you to continue exploring flow arts and such, they're all amazing. But before you graduate to fire, I would be a little more careful about it. It seems that you are playing with fire, and not performing. You could really hurt yourself or someone else.

  • Hey, I appreciate your input! I just wanted to let you know that I made this video almost two years ago! *laugh, since then, I haven't really practiced with my fire hoop, but that was my "thing" for that summer. With hindsight, I realize I was more playing with fire, I didn't practice enough to have stuff down. :) 'sall good!

  • cool,..

  • A few things:

    1) Get a heavier hoop. It makes for more momentum and you can do many cooler tricks.

    2) Learn how to idle. You're missing an entire spin.

    3) Use lamp oil until you actually learn what you're doing. It burns much less hot.

    4) Fill a kiddie pool with water or have sand/dirt ready to put it out. Not a hose.

Great effort! But you need a heavier hoop and more upper body strength to make it more fluid. And you could be a little more daring with the tricks.

    (Yay camp)

  • it would be interesting to see what you could do with some leathers, start hula-hooping it around your arm and what not. throws and isolations might be nice as well. keep on practcing and you might be on to something

  • Interesting fire toy. If you're not using kevlar wick, you might try it out. Please also tell your safety to use a damp towel instead of a hose; spraying water on a liquid fuel fire will only spread the flames, it will rarely smother them. Good job and keep working on it.

  • that is terrifying

  • *laughing oh? you think so? :) Its actually quite exhilarating :)

  • Did you ever work for Maple Dell? I heard about you from there. James Ray is going to teach it to me this summer if their is time.

  • Yupyup! I worked at Maple Dell for 3 summers! I'll be up a few times this summer too (hopefully) Awesome about learning it . . . do it! It's so fun and worth it! :)

  • it looks like you are in the ripe phases of something interesting, I like that you don't fight with these people .. so many people just have to criticize and criticize. And grabbing it wouldn't be dangerous? well I guess it would be impressive if that is where you are aiming. This kind of hoop seems like it would demand the devolopment of a whole field of new techniques- I like when you pulled it around you. just be careful and keep doing it.

  • I am a member of a Indian (Native American)style dance troupe (located in Collisnville, IL) and we use a fire hoop similiar to the one you used, only smaller. Instead of converting a hula hoop, we wrap cotton clothes line around a braided wire hoop, and use camp fuel oil. Looks about the same. Please see the video i responded with, that is 3 of our dancers after one of our performances.

  • I can vouch that it is real, ive seen him do it live!....Go Ruby!

  • did you seriously just light a hula hoop on fire?

  • uhhh. . . sorta, its more than just a hula hoop. . you should try it sometime!

  • Haha I'm a fire hoop dancer actually but it looks like you drenched a regular hula hoop in kerosene and lit up. I guess what I'm asking is 'is it wicked?'

  • Yeah, you take that fiberglass gasket stuff from the Fireplace store and light it up. Its a bit different that what most people call "Fire Hooping" but there is some skill involved. You really should try it sometime. :)

  • That was more playing with fire than actuall fire hooping. And ill have to agree with the safety call out. water + kerosene = fire splashing everywhere (oil floats on water.) duvetine or a wet towell and someone of a MATURE AGE, not a kid, should be heading your safety. all the reasons why i call this playing with fire rather than actuall fire dancing.

  • why is it called "real" fire hoop dance? I think you should learn some other things to do with it. you just kinda swung it around and jumped through it a couple of times? the hoop its self is interesting tho. I'm not sure if I would use it just because it limits you so much unlike a regular fire hoop. I would try some more daring stuff like actually going near the fire or grabbing it somewhere else for a short sec. It would make your porformance much more interesting and some what impressive.

  • You fire hooped right next to your *open* fuel dump (at least that's the way it appeared in your video)? That's real smart and wonderful of you to advertise here on YouTube. Dude, adopt a few simple safety standards. You'll keep your ass out of the hospital and the firetrucks away.

  • 'cept for the fact that my hoop takes all the fuel in my dump and that the kerosene can was placed at least 20 feet away. . . .
