i have a strong square shaped face and i got bangs a few years ago and it didn't look bad at all...i would still keep have bangs(as a haircut) if i had straight hair which i don't...i have wavy dry(damaged) hair so having bangs was not a practical option for me..it was too high maintenance(cuz the heat, rain, and win would turn my bangs curly &messed up)...otherwise, the bangs looked great on me.don't be put off by those people saying it's not gonna look good..try it out for yourself.

no bangs for a square face? i have a square face and every time i get bangs, people compliment me and tell me they suit me. to be honest, most people might not even notice how it makes your face look longer or it hides or softens your features but if your hair looks good, then it looks good :P but, now since im paying attention to this, i guess i shall take these tips while still sticking to bangs that suit me, according to ppl i know :P

my friend's hair is rlly long (make the face look more longer),and sideway bangs( I think Sideway bangs looks the best on her or any other heart shaped face),then she cut her hair to shoulder-length,still had her sideway bangs( that actually looks rlly good on her too,didn't rlly make the face look wider,more of a younger appearance.)

I have a very long oval face and I do not think think that anything goes at all, If you don't have bangs with a face shape like mine you look ridiculess. I myself have bangs that kinda swoop across my forhead to cover it. I think it really helps it to look less long. - Hope this helps someone-

everyone is saying square shaped faces should have no bangs.. but I've had bangs before and It makes me (at least feel) like I look good. I think it's all a matter on 1.) weight and how much shows on your face if you have a square face. and 2.) If you have the confidence.

I believe more importantly than face shape are your facial features - that is you should assess your features and determine what your best features are.

For instance:

Do you have great cheekbones? Then why hide them with a hair covering the face?

Do you have a large nose that you want to draw attention away from? Don't get straight across bangs, they will only serve to highlight your nose etc....

I have seen many women in the past few years sporting a style that suits very few i.e. wearing all of the hair slicked back entirely off of the face into a high ponytail or bun.

When your hair is pulled back tightly off of your face, you have to have the face for it meaning really pretty facial features, great bone structure & nice skin.

But it seems that many women don't realize this and sport this look anyhow. It's akin to wearing a mini but not having the legs for it.

Wow, this is a really late reply.

But just in case if you were still curious:

For long faces, I suggest to not grow your hair out too long without any bangs or it'll make your face seem longer. Adding bangs helps. I also suggest chin-length bobs on with side-swept bangs.
