  • I imagine this video being used as a hint to the soviets as well.

  • wow... and to think that something as simple today as a game of jardinains! would requite dozens of SAGE computers. a good Netbook would outperform an army of SAGE systems

  • At the end you see the new proud parents of the little indian girl they captured.

  • Say what you will about the excesses of the Cold War arms race, but SAGE practically invented the Graphic User Interface, cornerstone of modern operating systems.

  • This video gives me the opportunity to show my children the computer that I worked on in 1956-59.

  • @LaMiradaBob I imagined little kids, but they must be pretty big now. Perhaps you can show it to your grand kids.

  • IBM was so full of itself back then. I love that big building with the huge screaming IBM initials at top and center. Even the analog clocks were emblazoned with IBM!!!

  • "An AN/FSQ-7 computer contained 55,000 vacuum tubes, occupied about half an acre (2,000 m²) of floor space, weighed 275 tons, and used up to three megawatts of power. The fifty-two AN/FSQ-7s remain the largest computers ever built, and will likely hold that record in the future."

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting this!!!
