@chunter5100 The double toomba sitar has more bass and resonance, yes. Indrajit's sitar here is actually a double toomba sitar but like most touring players he generally doesn't use it due to travelling.
I have a question. Is it usual to use your index and middle finger only?I mean it would be easier with your ringfinger and pinky as well,I just wonder why sitarists only use the first two fingers.I have no sitar,so maybe this is a stupid question, but I just wonder.
@GuitarFretMan Some schools/styles use the ring finger also but the style that Indrajit is from uses only the first two fingers. This is because the extensive use of "meend" where you bend the notes, intonation becomes a problem when the ring or pinky finger is used and by proper technique the same results can be achieved.
Indrajit plays simply superb! This Sitar that he is playing is made by "Barun Roy"..I know because I have the same sitar..Kindly visit my videos in youtube to view my Sitar play also.
This is a highly recommended medium if you have no teacher nearby. There's no holding back information. There is so much good stuff here that you'll be busy for months. There are a few educational/online teaching DVD's out there; this one has to be the best. I have been going through it (Yaman) and have to say how surprised I am that one can learn, truly learn so much from this type of format. Indrajit is a wonderful teacher. He sings in sargam, then plays. Good stuff.
can anyone tell me the main difference between a single toomba and a double toomba? is it resonantion? thanks!
