  • I'm 17, and dammit I feel like I had a past life who was there at woodstock 1969. Every time I see a woodstock video, it seems so fucking familiar, NO it FEELS so fucking familiar.

  • @MrGorillerz Dude i'm 17 too and I feel the same way. My parents took me to the 40th anniversary and my life was changed. This song I think defines that generation. I wish our generation could be a little different, I think we're getting there though.

  • I had the honor of meeting Ritchie several times at performances I attended with my wife, to the point where I felt I got to know him personally. He is such a gentleman and good person. He spent alot of time with us at the end of his concerts. He remembered us the last time we saw him. I just love the man!

  • More relevant than ever.

  • Justin Bieber should watch that !!

  • @naxi55500555 I DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR JUSTIN BIEBER TALK HERE!!!!! B it negitive or positive..THIS IS FOR CONNOISSEURS OF FINE MUSIC ONLY!!

  • fuk man al ys of music i miss woodstock. this real music with feelings and it started a movement ;) thanks for the post

  • i think all of us have a little woodstock in us after listening to this

  • All hail the very first artist to get up on stage at Woodstock of 1969!

  • when they give those beautiufl smiles with the peace sign saying turn on the

guitar mikes and when at the end he walks off stage way before remote guitar mikes

and when he sings about his lost family

and his courage to sing without his upper plate

  • Incredible opening. This set the mood for the entire festival.

  • wonderfull

  • i was meant to be there... but born 23 years later :( :(

  • if there was an example in the dictionary next to the word "soul", one would see the masterpiece in front of you.

  • If I had a time machine, Woodstock would be my first stop...

  • I agree completely - the singularly most important moment of the event

  • it was about love, about the need to hear our music, in our way - no constraints, letting us be ourselves and feeling it and living it and Richie put it the way the Crerator intended...like the pilgrims when they first came to this country. FREEDOM. The FREEDOM to throw down the irreverent shackles of those before us and to let us THINK for OURSELVES. It is as imporant today as it was in 69. Think about it!

  • Woodstock, come to me...Richie you are pure light dude...

  • What improvised brilliance

  • i would give my soul to comeback in time and go to that festival

  • this is the essence of all mankind dreamings ...

  • Freedom for all! Freedom forever!

    Bikerlui1

  • FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • UNSHACKLING.

  • the absolute definition of woodstock.............wish i could have been there

  • awesome:)

  • lets get 500000 people. some of the best music of this generation. and the vibe of freedom. :) oh dont forget the psychadelics. no ecstasy. no chemicals. even if they are good. all natural naked open minded festival. lets go.

  • Along with the Beatles opening for Roy Orbison, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience opening for the Monkeys, this is one of the greatest opening acts of the 20th century.

  • @TigerRocket oops..."Monkees"

  • we've all got the same enemy peeps

  • He was the fisrt artist in Woodstock and this play it was an Improvisation of the Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child. 1899 song!!!!

  • Richie!

  • Imagine being this talented that a song just appears out of thin air as this di! I love this song so much, and Richie bless him.

  • They try woodstock again this time in california and it SUCK...

  • Best improv EVER!

  • this never loses anything

  • man, you release, and still others are sponsoring a release, that magic word, "freedom" never go out of fashion, and the wonderful characters that magnify the project and, today, are as free as their long ages of freedom. .

    Grad master of masters

    perfect light and mind

    king of kings

    Mr Jesus Super Star

  • piękne Wolność

  • Anything to do with Woodstock brings a tear to my eye. Forget the birth of jesus! This was the greatest event of all time!

  • RITCHIE HAVENS

  • Qmilkman Rocks !!!

  • FREEDOM!

  • some times i feel, like mama is gone?

    sorry, no hablo inglés.

    Bella melodía !

  • Sometimes I feel all alone, like an orphan.

  • what a great start off to woodstock Richie Havens was

  • Long live Richie Havens!! Peace, Love, and Freedom...for all!!

  • 'turn the guitar up mic' lol

  • What's really amazing is that he plays everything with his thumb. This could just be one of the most inspirational people for me.

  • He made this up on the spot, eh?

  • yes he did, he wrote it for the audience

  • no he didnt, he hadnt played it for years until this time, he just randomly thought of it and started playing it again

  • @petesashowoff the song was an amalgam of different songs, but completely improvised.

  • i mean you should always support what your generation is putting out...because like it or not you will be looked at as the world wants to anyway...there is still good music being put out you just have to find it

  • it makes me sad that my young ass never got the chance to witness real music in its prime... they say hip-hop is dead.... shit All Music is pretty much dead..

  • Don't feel bad. I missed this by about 2 years but on the other side of the coin I missed the US draft by one year. I did listen to this on the radio from where I lived in N Y City.

  • music has lost it's emotion for the most part. Most of the stupid shit you here today consists of wanting money sex and fame. Fuck 2009, long live 1969

  • @Nenshati19 why the hate for sex?

  • @Nenshati19

dont think like that...music has evolved so go with the flow and find music that applys to you...its out there

  • @Nenshati19 Yes that is true for most pop music today in USA however look a folk music or stuff like 5 for fighting they actually tell stories about peoples lives.

  • @Nenshati19

    damn right! <3

  • @Nenshati19 music today lacks Freedom.

  • @Nenshati19 Long Live Music ... Music will never die!

  • wow!

  • The guy playing drums (I think) at :50 looks just like the guy from Outkast. And the guy looking for tabs, good luck, Havens uses weird tunings and frets with his thumb.

  • Great! I have the Woodstock dvd at home.. Believe me, I always start of with richie

  • absolute brilliance

  • Get chills everytime I watch this vid, unbelievable!

  • I think the same way - he is amazing!!!

  • to me... perhaps. this... is the most important moment of woodstock..

i have to say... we can do this again.....

we can find the love of man kind.. it's not too late..

if you personally want to... we can...i am in... i want to... Ok.... so lets!

  • i would really like another woodstock

  • another woodstock isnt possible anymore

  • @BearWa11ace yeaaahh!!!! let´s repeat that era!!

  • @BearWa11ace count me in

  • @BearWa11ace I'm IN too... Let's!

  • @BearWa11ace YEAH...i am in also!!!!! peace and love!!

  • @BearWa11ace Amen!

  • @BearWa11ace

except not just on a farm in new york

but in my heart and yours!

    and in the streets!

from west and on to the east!

  • @BearWa11ace I'm with you. Popular music used to be about hope. What happened!?!

  • dose anyone know the tabs to this song ? let me know asap

  • it's Bm , F#m, F# and F7

  • its practically untabbable... its gonna be pretty straightforward chords and an extremely unorthodox strumming pattern

  • B minor thoughout "Freedom" and "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child" And then F sharp minor "A long..." then F sharp "Way...from my home" then back to B minor.

  • transcendantal !!!!! quel pied !!!!

  • he has no teeth...maybe thats the secret to singing amazingly:P

    Love this song!

  • richie havens was unknown and very poor when he performed at woodstock.

when the other performers couldn´t get to the stage because of the thousands of people, he was asked to play a few more songs and so he started jamming - and *freedom* was born.

after that he got famous and was able to buy new teeth.

    nice story, isn´t it?

  • extremely nice...thank you for sharing that

sorry about the 2 month wait for a response :(

  • Yes its a nice story, is it true though?

  • you're a fucking idiot racist, why do you assume he was very poor...black guy from brooklyn?

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah,LOVE THIS SONG!

  • Nice.
