@rydubz7..... Are you fucking insane ? Muse are better than all the other modern bands put together. If they are so bad how come that have won like a thousand awards and are loved by millions!
I heard alot about Muse because of this pedal . I dont usually complain on youtube but Muse sounds like fukin Creed .Phony moppie commercial garbage Made only to sell to depressed teenagers . A real artist who made this pedal famous is nels cline who can actually play . Wilco isnt that great either but Nels kicks butt and a half .Check him out .I posted a comment about how much Muse is phony(i cant believe some people don't find this obvious) and got emails from teens saying "you suck" . lol
Hey I've been using this for a while now and I've noticed for me chords are sounding pretty bad with the fuzz factory. Am I using bad settings or something?
I wish all the Z-Vex stuff was in available in Vexter guise because frankly the artwork doesn't interest me like the sounds do....and the paint seems a shade expensive.Lol
You can clone any pedal you want...what you're paying for when you buy from a guy like Mr. Vex is the countless hours of R&D, the innovation and keeping the little guy going. I'd like to see spend 20 quid and make something like this from your own imagination. Good luck with that...
Towards the end of the video. This thing has a Satch squeal simulation setting, too? :O AWESOME!
Thinking of getting this as my main distortion/drive, and my first boutique FX pedal too. I'm running a tight budget, so how would this work with a decent, affordable solid state amp?
i'd recommend skimpy on pedals and getting a decent tube amp to start with... check out the VOX AC4 10" combo... it's only a bit more than this pedal costs and it'll be more than loud enough for most of your needs. then you can learn about tube distortion too, haha.
@sipasabayag: Probably pretty good, but you should just get the Vexter series one. Same pedal, just not as flashy. But I gotta agree with aschleman, a good amp is a neccessity!

Seriously, anyone who has one of those old boomboxes laying around (or get one for 10 bucks at salvation army) give it a try. It is true analog overdrive, and it sounds better than this pedal. You can even use a walkman, and have a stereo output, feeding the overdriven signal to a pair of amps. There is a built in compression circuit on every tape player, so it will be a COMPRESSED LOW-FI ANALOG FUZZ, AND IT WON'T COST 300 DOLLARS!
The majority of sounds they are demoing are sounds comparable to #1 broken speaker distortion, #2 dead tubes distortion, #3 playing through a tape deck distortion, and #4 low-fi digital yamaha keyboard distortion. Not worth 300 bucks. I have gotten better fuzz tones from literally ripping the head out of a tape player, wiring a 1/4" jack to the terminals, and plugging in a guitar. You press "play", and your guitar overdrives the amp in the tape player, because it is a low impedance input. Try it
This thing costs 300 dollars. Think about that. These weirdo non-musical effects are to be used sparingly, to add some trippy filling to a place in a song where not much else is going on, but it could never be used as anyone's main source of distortion. It's the type of effect that one uses less than a tremolo or flanger......so, is it worth spending the 300 bucks that could get you a really killer overdrive? Is it even worth having, and if so, for any purpose but a toy? In my opinion, it is not
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Good for her! Meanwhile, I painstakingly built myself a dovetailed solid red cedar 2x15 cabinet with a pair of NOS 15" speakers, a jensen alnico P15 and a CTS ceramic, and I electrocuted myself several times building the amplifier of my dreams from hammond organ scraps, and put in an additional 7 or 8 weeks building an all-tube (4 cascading 12AY7s) preamp/OD. 6 months of hard work, I am not putting a "fuzz factory" between my guitar and the all tube signal path that I killed myself to have.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What happens when you put even a good transistor or op-amp pedal between your guitar and the first tube is called tone-sucking. I have all the gain a guy could ever want, without a single transistor, op-amp, or solid state gain stage in the signal path. From the magnets under my guitar strings to the magnets behind my speaker cones, there is nothing but tubes, and I am dirt poor, so I had to build it all myself, and it took me 5 times as long as it would have if I was an engineer. I worked hard.
on the contrary, this is one of john frusciante's main fuzz pedals which he used for many of his solos on the by the way tour, look up scar tissue, the regular fuzz tone is great!
$300 for a handmade fuzz which has a wide range of normal tones available (including the shown fuzz face simulation), can handle a convincing octavia and also allows for experimentation with trippy sounds (which some people enjoy, others dont). expensive yes, but i find it narrow-minded to simply brand this as a 'toy'
Everything is a matter of opinion, so some will like it, others won't. Well, there are people out there who have the opinion that the best distortion is achieved by dumping sand between you speaker and baffle board, and this pedal is a 300 dollar bag of sand. Switching the knobs around merely adjusts the size of the speaker, and the amount of sand. 300 bucks is too much for ANY dirt pedal, unless it is an OD with an all-tube audio path with a 3-band eq between stages.
Transistors are cheap, and their surrounding circuitry is easy to build. I once built a rangemaster for a guy who wanted a boost, and I used only parts that I pulled out of my hammond AO-44 when I was converting it to a guitar amp. Pulling the terminal strip on the front of the amp took all the solid state out of that amp, opened up the tone (by removing "frequency shaping" caps/resistors), and the garbage I had left was made in to a "boutique" OD in about 15 minutes. I charged him $50 for it.
What do you think of the Freekish Blues Coily Fuzz? I want to try, but would like some opinions first... I guess Dweezil Zappa use the Bety Bdbst? Opinions?
considering how much "effort" it takes to make one of these pedals (including engineering the PCB and testing), the price is way higher than it should be. People pay less for vintage pedals.
I was using my buddy's Big Muff Pi and his Fuzz Factory back to back last week. The muff is alright for the classic, standard fuzz sounds, but I found that the Fuzz Factory could do anything the muff could do plus tons of crazy things it couldn't.
