  • Singaporean are Retarded for voting PAP . What an idiot

  • Very good. Although I support the PAP, I do respect him. He and some leaders from WP/NSP are so much more pragmatic and sensible than the like of Chee Soon Juan and JB Jeyaretnam.

  • No disrespect intended but the rebuke to the ruling aristocrats to get the simple truths into their thick skulls can summed up in 2 lines:"We agree to disagree. And politics is the art of lying amidst the science of progress."

  • TPL looks so bored

  • So glad the "chee soon jan" days are over

  • He is like Zhuge Liang from the Three Kingdoms Period, a person who knows how to talk and talks for the people.

  • He is a great speaker. The greatest speaker from Singapore political stage since LKY.

  • A man of confidence, poise and stature. A transformational leader in the making, a rarity and gem these days. Speaks eloquently and sincerely from the heart...you can feel it...unlike some others who speak from prepared scripts written by others.

  • well said MP Chen. It seems that the present gov is not able to attract such a talent with a decent character , and may have to resort to obscenely high pay to attract so called talent. The other gov ministers and MP vid have disabled comments. I wonder why.

  • This is the first opposition party person that made me feel there is some hope for the party.

  • Good Speech, both English and Chinese.

  • i have a feeling some ministers dont get it !

  • Loaded w jabs, barbs and physiological spin. Divisions, Differences and Intolerance - (govt) cannot accept anything other than its own thinking. "a man who is not here to join us today" wow sounded like the guy was dead. Oh its George Yeo - remind (govt) that he won and to rub their noses in it. “I am not the enemy I am Singaporean and a Patriot” … shoot me down and you shoot down a Patriot “I challenge but do not oppose and do not mean I do not support” Super Spin. He is a Great Orator.

  • mark my words, this man will be the next prime minister. anyone remember chen wei lian, when i saw him singing outside tampines mrt, i told myself, this man will become famous, and he did.

  • PAP made a big mistake by letting this man enter parliament.

  • 13:00 大道废,有仁义。智慧出,有大伪。

    六亲不和,有孝慈。国家昏,有忠臣。

When the great Tao perishes, there is humanity and justice.

When intelligence is manifest, there is great deception.

When the six relationships are not in harmony, there is filial piety and compassion.

When the country is in chaos, loyal ministers appear.

  • Chen Show Mao ftw. Every MIW listening to him epic fail and serious reflection time.

  • Chen Show Mao should be Singapore next prime minister and Tin Pei Ling the deputy prime minister.

  • Such a great speech from a great leader. Looking forward to more great speeches from him.

  • Wow~ thought provoking and inspiring speech...

  • @mOfOz8

    I can speak 3 and u mad? I'm stating a fact

  • I am impressed by his Mandarin speech.

This (WP) is a quality opposition party.

  • CSM's greatest attribute is that he has the ability to move people, to inspire, give hope and direction. Rare traits these days..

  • sensible speech..impressive tt its not provoking but geniunely in hopes of reforging a better country. i did not like his speeches during the rally as i thought he eas lacklustre in form.but hearing him delivery in parliament, i think he assimilated to such environment efficaciously.

  • so what? PM LEE can speak 6 languages including english, chinese, malay, russian, japanese. Can't remember the last one. And I don't consider someone who only returned at age 50 a singaporean

  • @pengheng yea you can speak 1 language i see. stop barking now thankyou

  • @pengheng you obviously were not listening to the speech...

  • this is real foreign talent

  • when i hear his chinese speech, i thought its like a speech from president of taiwan.. amazing.

  • @beliefmail,In my opinon he is better than Taiwan President, both in term of his qualification and bi-linguage.

  • Different wisdom are available in both speeches and it makes me thankful that I am able to understand, and therefore draw upon the wisdom in them. I am also very thankful that we have such a capable MP sitting within the parliament, providing a voice for the people of Singapore.

  • Hearing his Chinese speech really makes me want to polish my Mandarin.

  • i always like his speech,Quality and Substance kind.To me,he is equiped with leadership, more than any of e current 'capable' serving minister or MPs!

  • speech of the wise..

  • lol look at PM Lee's epic tired face

  • Bravo Mr Chen!

  • hooray to you csm for a very. inspiring speech.we need people like you for the benefit of singaporean who suffered because of being left behind by the govt who in my eyes does not like to help the less fortunate and the poor.keep up the good work and good heart.

  • Although only 5 WP mp representing the 40%, I am beginning to see that 5 is more than enough to take them on. hahaha!

  • @smellyfry

you are likely to see more after the 2016 GE.

only slightly more than 10% overall to turn the tide against those suck-ups!

  • Chen Show Mao is simply put, the Best speaker in the whole Parliament of Singapore!

His standard is a cut above the rest.

Sorry , but please be tolerant of our differences. I prefer CSM and to me he is the Best.

As Chen said, having different views is not Divisive. Intolerant of different views IS Divisive.

I am grateful to CSM for saying this in their face.

    Its about time!

    brace yourselves pap!

  • Remarkably laudable and insightful: Moving from "Expenditure" to "Investment" in education, healthcare, etc.

My hope: Moving from "Investment" in to "Honour" of our children (education), our elders (healthcare), our citizens (housing, transport, etc), our soldiers and our land (defence).

The spirit of Honour is already extant as MP Chen contextualized it as doing "the right thing".

  • The Honorable MP Chen Show Mao spoke of "Dao De" in his Mandarin version. But in the past two decades, I think the Pay And Pension (PAP) Govt have lost that vital "Dao De" from the laws, regulations and policies that they made.

As for laws being "properly" passed in Parliament, we must be watchful of the present inherent and structural skews arising from, eg, the single-party over-dominance in the House, the Party whip imposed on almost all issues.

  • 君子建言 国会风范

    在野党员 更上一层

  • Well say....Bravo

  • encore....

  • this guy should be the next prime minister...

  • he makes it look so easy!!..

goodness.. oozing with style.. he's like the beckham of politics..

  • This guy is on a different level all together. This is what is called Talent. He knows what it means to be a human being.

  • so eloquent and articulate! "differences are not divisive." brilliant speech!

  • wow just wow... that might be the most brutally honest and well delivered speech in the parliament ever. Being brutally honest in his desire for synergy is what other PAP MPs really need to learn from.. not paranoia and dirty smearing. sigh.. why can't they just admit when they've gone wrong..

  • An inspiration!

There is hope for more democratic, rigourous parliamentary debates.

  • urbane, civic, genteel, cultivated.

    mature, sophisticated, measured and composed.

no wonder he has risen to the top of his chosen profession.

i am glad he is in public life - prognosis of what he has to offer is good for now...

  • I thought his delivery in Mandarin was far more succinct than in English and made the point about unity very well. Putting things into perspective, it was really unsurprising that in the early days of Singapore's nation, the social, economic, and political realities made it very difficult for most of those who lived in Singapore to "see" things clearly ... unity was in reality absent, emotions and concerns were high, health and welfare were short, and injustice had been everywhere in evidence.

  • I have mixed feelings about him somehow. He is very capable, but somehow he lacks the nitty-gritty, micro level top line concern that every candidate voiced in parliament. Perhaps he could be more macro then-his clear position as being a challenger in government. He is a savvy politician indeed, everything about him-idealistic message, rock-star charisma, comprehensively crafted speeches, strategic facebook posts, etc

Will be very interesting to track his career in politics!

  • i wonder, with people like him why doesnt the wp form the shadow cabinet, that way we can have more concrete and focused debates on policies rather than to talk about ideology only

Mr Chen's flawless command of languages, logical and persuasive delivery of messages definitely set a high standard and benchmark for local political figures. Well done Mr Chen and look forward to your future speeches.

    PK SOH

  • NO ONE! NO one in P@P can delivery a smooth speech in Mandarin, let alone such a profound one!

  • start peeing in your pants P@P...

  • It is like a professor teaching other amateur mps like tin pei ling how to talk like a human.

  • it's like a professor teacher amateur mps how to talk

  • Boomzsg is prolly a troll

  • He speaks very well, both in style and substance, and in both languages.

  • Personally I feel that I am like watching our next PM giving his speech. He really got what it take to be a politician. He really put in a very nice position on the key points/ concern in the society or government. Congratulation WP for getting such credible and "presentable" member. Really glad to have found this video.

  • honesty ....he is = 10 pap

  • Wonderful Chinese speech. This is really good Chinese. I doubt the PAP sitting there understanding how many % of his example mentioned. Just out from their Chinese tutor.

  • Oh My God! I love his flowery Chinese!! Where can I learn how to speak in such a way?

  • 2016 CSM for PM

  • @chanzixiang

your wish may come true if only those numbed down (by 100 percent fluoride in the drinking water) voters wake up their ideas.

  • A man of great substance & intellectual. Beats anyone in the current regime hands down in bilingual abilities and thinking. And he is so humble.

  • His Chinese speech was one of the best I've heard. Makes adequate sense and the references he made really showed his depth of knowledge. I have to applaud him for that.

  • This is 1 man that must have left the ruling party wonder why they did not manage to bring to its ranks. Awesome speech!

  • Respect.

  • grave and poignant.. and delivered with eloquence and grace.. Thank God for this different voice.. thank you for representing the group of Singaporeans who have been wishing to be heard!. Mr Chen, you are a great source of inspiration!

  • PAP has no absolutely no substance. PM LEE, stop squeezing yourself on the prime minister position! Mr Chen is more suitable than you!

  • Look at the fucking Lee Hsien Loong face!

  • i wish the camera man can span more as to see who is sleeping in parliament

  • Brilliant speech, Mr Chen. Thank you for putting it so succinctly. I'm so glad you've returned to serve. Inspirational.

  • @boomzsg You can do better?

  • @boomzsg contrary to your observation, Mr Chen spoke at a steady pace. Yes, he delivered his speech written on paper but he delivered it with fine intonation and diction. Your written grammar is so poor even my primary 3 kid could point out your errors in this remark. Clearly you wrote this out of sheer ignorance and blind support to the men and women in white.

  • @dradrianpeh

I voted for him and now I have lots of regrets. What a disappointment. Not as good as as he made out to be.

  • @boomzsg

can you explain why he disappointed? and how he was not as good as he made out to be? else, you are just making a sweeping statement without any grounds.

  • @boomzsg Hi Boomzsg. Would appreciate if you could explain and elaborate to us why the regrets? Have he done or said anything inappropriately to you or other Singaporeans that made you feel so strongly this way? If you want to make statements like this, then you ought to clarify. I think people in general won't buy your words since they are not substantiated.

    Thanks.

  • @boomzsg Dear sir/madam, you wouldn't know quality if it hit you in the face and punched through your skull into your uncomprehending brain. How did he get to Parliament? Simple. Because people know that EVEN if he faltered in his speech, EVEN if he read from written material, there is a lot more substance in him than a hundred of you and your ilk have in you.

  • @boomzsg lolz, if his speech was boring, lacking confidence or exaggerated in anyway, then all the other mp's speech will worth nothing more than a piece of shit, a piece of shit like u.

  • redefining what it means to be effectively bilingual

  • thanks for uploading this!

  • I don't normally comment on youtube videos but have to do it this time. Mr. Chen is amazing! An engaging speech. Effectively bilingual!

Which PAP MP is capable of that? Look forward to more great speeches like this. !! Bravo!!

  • <3

  • Enough already ok. Can't you all see that tin tin is having trouble following??

  • Respect!

  • bravo!!

  • Best speech I have ever heard from the opposition so far. I like Sylvia's speech too. I hope the Worker's party will live up to Singaporeans' expectations.

  • Better than any PAP Mps. He is like Obama. Soft, penetrating and highly intellectual. Puts lee hsien loong in a lower league.

  • The pride of all Singaporeans!

  • Excellent speech!

  • @nitrodick123 its not!

  • Impressive!

  • By far the best speech in parliament thus far. This speech, (both in English and Mandarin), is so well-crafted that virtually every angle is covered. The quality of its ideas and reasoning simply makes any person who opposes look very much lacking in logic, intellect and rationality. This, you will see in other clips on the CNA website. And then it will be very clear who are, in fact, playing the role of the 'opposition', and are opposing for the sake of doing so.

  • I have commented about your speech but it seems to have been lost.?censored

  • Notice they stopped panning to the floor after he started his mandarin portion? That's coz all the PAPees jaw dropped. LoL

  • Mr Chen is a first world parliamentrian

  • Mr Chen has the qualifications and IQ that can surpass many of the PAP MPsHe has raised the bar to parlaiamentary debate

  • sucks to be PM lee. need listen to so so so many speech i see he looks quite tired

  • Well said...*Clap* Magnificent speech!! This should be the way!

  • TPL, KI CHIEW!!! you all bo liao. ORD lo!

  • papee is scared of csm.. see the way they are behaving.. very uncomfortable..

  • united in a diverse Singapore. what an awesome speech!

  • Where to find another Rhodes Scholar who speaks this level of Mandarin???

Not just a gem of Singapore, but the world.

  • where's LTK's speech?

  • i didnt understand y mps/ministers r slouching in their seats and acting all so disinterested in parliment. that was until i saw their leader LHL doing the same as well

  • LHL is loosing support and popularity and still, he showed no interest in working together with the opposition to make Singapore better. This speech of Chen gave PAP and LHL a way to save "face" and to go towards a right way but looks like the PAP is too arrogant to accept it and their proud attitude will be their undoing.

  • Just take a look on PM Lee face, does it show that he is listening or just day dreaming. What a sad state our country leaders have become.

  • his mandarin just pwned all the fake chinese MPs there

  • @spdsboiboi86 his mandarin too power. i couldnt understand 70% of it T.T

  • Please have my babies

  • Why GCT face so stiff..? hahaha

  • Wow. This is inspiring.

  • *respect*

  • Wow. A most inspiring, thought-provoking and uplifting speech... especially in the Singapore context. Although they will never admit it, you can see from the expression of their faces that the PAP MPs are in awe of this man. CSM is a true leader and definitely of Prime Ministerial quality.

  • CSM Got substance. Why Goh Chok Tong didnt recruit this talent? And end up with a star TPL?

  • no loss of any one word. Stylish n cool. True rhodes scholar! cheers!

  • he s the best speaker so far

  • Eloquent in both English and Mandarin. He would be a great MP, and an even greater PM.

  • 3:03 lol at GCT's expression

  • One of the best opposition speech that I have heard. The speech is peppered with style and substance. All inspiring oppositions should take a leaf. To oppose, doesn't mean making allegations of "coffee shop" standard. Mr Chen has indeed set a very high benchmark.
