The Honorable MP Chen Show Mao spoke of "Dao De" in his Mandarin version. But in the past two decades, I think the Pay And Pension (PAP) Govt have lost that vital "Dao De" from the laws, regulations and policies that they made.

As for laws being "properly" passed in Parliament, we must be watchful of the present inherent and structural skews arising from, eg, the single-party over-dominance in the House, the Party whip imposed on almost all issues.

I thought his delivery in Mandarin was far more succinct than in English and made the point about unity very well. Putting things into perspective, it was really unsurprising that in the early days of Singapore's nation, the social, economic, and political realities made it very difficult for most of those who lived in Singapore to "see" things clearly ... unity was in reality absent, emotions and concerns were high, health and welfare were short, and injustice had been everywhere in evidence.

I have mixed feelings about him somehow. He is very capable, but somehow he lacks the nitty-gritty, micro level top line concern that every candidate voiced in parliament. Perhaps he could be more macro then-his clear position as being a challenger in government.
