@doctoryessis in this case the forward component is necessary for going from one box to the other. and even if you don't go to another box there's certainly nothing wrong with moving forward a little as you go. it makes no difference. i agree with the rest of what you said and I believe I communicated very similarly in the video. Did you listen to it? Sorry, I respect your knowledge, but you're just telling me things I already know and teach
@doctoryessis I guess I'll take your word for it, but my training is mostly aimed at team sport athletes who have to perform a wide variety of movements and jumps. I don't think you can go wrong with a little variation in where the forces are gathered or what muscles are activated to what extent
@doctoryessis the reusing of tension is rebounding you are being to technical the knees should not lock when jumping as that is a sign of poor energy transfer through the posterior chain. i dont know where you came up with this technical crap but there is nothing wrong with his depth jump.
can you give exact reps/sets? of course it varies between the athlete's levels. I have done beginner plyometrics and a program called airalert. how much shall i do for depth jumps? thanks
jumprtrainee1, ive been trying to contact u through email and on comments on youtube. I also sent u a friend invite, so I can send u a personal message. Basically, I forgot the log in and password for the site, and was wondering how I can prove that I paid for it. Thanks man.
man im pretty pissed off i havent seen that much gains is it because im not adding weight or something cause i have no weight equipment what so ever im doing "b"
@lordvoldemort578 make it 3x5 depth jumps. 3x6 shock lunges. Then it's alright, assuming you're a good enough athlete to perform those exercises properly
@jumptrainee1 Yeah My coach Makes me Demonstrate for our football team how to do them.I just have a problem putting together a good workout....so only six reps and 3 sets sounds good By the way what Is your 40 yard dash.
"preferrably onto another box" ... not really... jumping onto another box shortens ground contact time, and power output.. this method is better for sprinting.
you will achieve maximum power jumping as high as possible for an object overhead, not worrying much about the time on the ground..
all you need to think is "jump as high as possible while landing as soft as possible"
if you dont believe me, just ask the guy who coined them.. verkhoshansky.
In my experience I've always seemed to have bad jumps going for an overhead object after dropping off something.
I've never heard of shortening ground contact time being a bad thing
Didnt Verkhoshansky originally use these for sprinters? Does being the first one to use a technique really mean you know the most about it? Wish I could ask him
he has done more research on this subject than anyone else.. people are just now doing the GCT studies, and he has done those 20 years ago.
your experience with them is legit, but the science behind it states GCT & power is lower when jumping onto a box..
shortening GCT isnt bad.. you're still going to get a training effect since you are reversing alot of KE.. the way you're doing this is still effective, but it's not the preferred method that you stated..
in jump rope, the GCT is insanely low, can you jump maximally during jump rope? only if you increase gct..
it's the same with depth jumps.. introducing a box causes people to complete a less powerful triple extension in favor of rebounding a little faster & really driving up the hip flexors.
the overhead goal thing has been proven most effect for DJ's in numerous studies (after verk figured this out way before them).
In one of my experiments I tried to understand how could be changed the Depth Jump height and the lending time in the relation with the formulating of the aim of the exercise:
so I don't have a high speed camera but I slowed down the depth jumps clips jumping onto a box and not and my GCT was exactly the same on both. But my experience probably helps
ya well its going to be impossible to tell on a camera that shoots 30fps.. even 60fps..
because each from is 0.033 seconds, so, you could be jumping 0.015 faster on the box jump and you wouldnt be able to tell..
see what i mean? 0.033s margin of error on 30 frames per second :/
thats why measuring vert with hangtime on a 30fps camera is only accurate within ~2 inches or so.. could be +- 2".. will be the same with GCT, +- 0.033s
This is only the case if you assume maximal explosive strength effort to be accurately represented by jump height. The problem being: what is explosive strength? Often, the rate of mechanical energy change of the body (often incorrectly referred to as 'power') is used. If we are using this definition, than jump height cannot accurately represent explosive strength. A more accurate measure may be JH per GCT, in which case minimizing GCT results in the highest explosiveness.
From the results of experiment we can observe that the execution technique and the result of Depth Jump depend on the formulating of the aim of the exercise. If the athlete try to obtain the maximal jump height he performs the Depth jump with the maximal height and with the optimal landing time. If the athlete tries to obtain the minimal lending time he performs the Dept jump with minimal lending time, but the jump height could not be maximal.

why are you doing B with no weights? You need weights to do B. Of course you're not going to see much improvement

@jumptrainee1 Hey Is something like
3x10 depth Jumps
3x10 shock lunges
2x10 tuck jumps
and sprints Is that a good Plyometric workout for sprinting speed?

@lordvoldemort578 I've never measured it. if I did it would just be hand time, which is not very accurate

ill post a quote from him

In one of my experiments I tried to understand how could be changed the Depth Jump height and the lending time in the relation with the formulating of the aim of the exercise:
adarqui 2 years ago
1) to drop in low and to jump in aloft. Result: h - 69 cm t - 0.24 s.
2) to drop in low and to jump in aloft as high as possible with more fast lending amortization Result: h - 58 cm t - 0.20 s
3) to drop in low and to jump in aloft as high as possible with more slow lending amortization. Result: h - 73 cm, t - 0.31 s
So, when the athlete try to minimize the lending/amortization time in Depth Jump execution, he cannot realize the maximal explosive strength effort.

so I don't have a high speed camera but I slowed down the depth jumps clips jumping onto a box and not and my GCT was exactly the same on both. But my experience probably helps

The best Depth Jump result was obtained when I asked only to lend softly and to jump in aloft as high as possible.
