Thanks PSear, very pleasing performance, Was familiar with Cyril Scott though his metaphysical books in the 70's, then found the album by Martha Ann Verbit of the piano music. Seemed to be the only thing around at the time (80's?). Now, of course, there's much more on cd.
@thewordofgord Thank you very much - I am glad you liked it. I recall reading his book 'Bones of Contention' (I think that is the title), and envied his having women swooning around him while he played in the early years of the last century!
this is so beautiful, i cant believe the neglect that scott's music has received its just so wrong, i only found out about him a few months ago and i can't find some where i can listen to his music anywhere on the internet any one know of a sight where i can stream his music so i can make a decision to buy it or not?
@thePedro1er I suggest you try Myspace Music or Naxos Music Library if these are available in your country. You should be able to sample tracks on Amazon too, I'm glad you liked this piece!
As a fan of Delius, (yet, I am in the lowest decile of musicality), I was directed to Cyril Scott as another composer that might appeal to me. And this piece and your playing does just that.
(It is kind of hard to come up yo "On Hearing the 1st Cuckoo of Spring", not to say, BBC Monitor Series, "Song of Summer, Ken Russel)
Thank you for your interesting comment. I have to say that I have performed very little Delius - although I do have a piano arrangement of 'On hearing...'.
Beautiful presentation of this charming salon idyll. I always wondered about the title since I associate asphodels with the realm of the Underworld in Greek myth, but there's no trace of anything remotely savoring of the macabre in this wistful little gem.
What is the brand of your piano? thanks!
