The Gears series does such a good job of representing the grittiness and tragedy of war. So much better than say, the Halo series. I'd also suggest reading the novels too, you'll get a better understanding of everything.

1) Gears Of War is a game about shooting the shit out of Aliens, it's not an emotional piece of art. It's a mindless shooter game.

2) It's okay for an athlete to cry after a victory because they worked their ring off to win and sacrificed so much to get where they are, It's years and years of work and training that build up to one epic moment.
