This is definetly the most beautiful song of In Flames, in my opinion.. it's so perfect with everything falling in place.. th violins near the end always give me goosebumps and sometimes make me cry when im alone, just because it's so beautifull....

To me, this is one of the best composed, and easily the most beautiful song In Flames has created. Everything comes together from the strings, to the emotion displayed in Anders' vocals. This song is literally one of the most powerful songs that metal has ever seen.
OMG. That fucking riff from "Where the Dead Ships Dwell" is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. If there is anything that hits you with that old school In Flames sound it's that little lead melody. I can just barely catch the verse riff after it and it sounds top notch. Going to be the best song on the album by far.
Jesper was a shitty Solo writer + player anyhow. Bjorn and Jesper "took turns" soloing on different songs. You can tell who is playing the solo in any given song. Jesper is a repetitive lick that lasts a total of like 7 seconds (thats what she said! haha) and Bjorn plays the faster more intricate ones where it would seem it took some thought. @Ryouko97 Technically neither was lead or rhythm since the majority of their songs consisted of harmonies in the guitar, however in non-harmonized components Jesper would normally be playing the lead and Bjorn rhythme. You can see a big progression from older albums to the new. Newer albums the lead is MUCH more apparent and clear. With the end of Jesper we have the Beginning of Bjorn. We leave behind Classic Awesomeness and venture into unknown Awesomeness w/ infinite potential.
the nice thing about this album is that not only A New Dawn is a great song but it is in general a album with alot of masterpieces because those guys have work for 3 years and got the time to greate this album love it.IN FLAMES WE TRUST GREECE.
You know, these guys have been playing hard music for so long. I think I'll enjoy a more mellow album for the first time. They are not selling out, they have not lost their passion, they are just doing something different, and I can tell they are still making great music. Can't wait for the album!

The album is good, but it's not the "old in flames" so many hope will return. Not that I personally think that's a bad thing, I love old and most new in flames. This was a HUGE improvement over A sense of purpose, but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype...but not much ever does. Either way, solid album and I hate to say it, but good riddance Jesper, Bjorn is a much better writer. Just my 2 cents
Yes, the New Down is amazing, but the best song in the album i think is the Darker Times. Then there are The Puzzle, but for me this is in equal level with All For Me. The Ropes is great too, but something not OK with the chorus, but that's the song's best part, so i like it. :)
For me, this album is a big return after the terrible Sense Of Purpose. Maybe, the electric samples are very in the background, but the album is AMAZING. :D

@intruderGER i do agree with the production, the past few albums could sound so much better but the mastering quieted a lot of the guitars and power in the drums, with this aside, i love the album and knowing IF these songs will be EPIC live!
@intruderGER it's a good album, actually it's way better than ASOP, the reason why there are no fast songs in terms of drums, it's because it's more of a melodic album, i think this time all of the members agreed upon which direction to go musically speaking, you can hear a sense of harmony whithin all the instruments, it's a nicely done album
@intruderGER Anders vocals on this album is the best vocals iv'e heard so far. Sure there arent that much screams and growls like the other albums, but damn, the vocals are good! The drums are not boring, its the tightest and heaviest sound Daniel has ever had. And sure, there may be a lack of double bass, but does that make an song automatically good? And I guess you havent heard the whole album when you are saying that there is no fast ones. What about The Puzzle, Enter Tradegy, Darker times?
I liked the old vocals better. even on a sense of purpose it was better, he put more power into it and he wasn't "crying" the whole time. Maybe the drums sound good, but that's because they (as i hear) triggered. I didn't mean boring as how they sound, more like what is played, it feels some kind of empty with all those single bass, which is sure good in some rythms, but it's repeated too often on the new album. Still there are some faster songs, but overall the album is really slow.
@intruderGER Are you being serious? every song, minus the attic, has double bass in it. It may not be prolonged sections of constant double bass, but every track has double bass in it. If you want to hear mindless kick drumming, go listen to nile or necrophagist.

Constant double bass and blasts beats are done by a million bands, it's nothing new and unoriginal. Well, Necrophagist's guitarist composed both albums completely alone, so you can't await musical perfectness in every part. But this discussion should not end up in a battle between to bands.
Technicality is not the most important thing, but at least it keep songs interesting as theiy differ much more from others. Though it's not a must have to make good music.

A New Dawn (the song with the cellos and stuff) is probably the best song on their album.
It has many elements of their older work, it's very strong and then the orchestral instruments hit in which just changes the focus of the song...

Yes, the New Down is amazing, but the best song in the album i think is the Darker Times. Then there are The Puzzle, but for me this is in equal level with All For Me. The Ropes is great too, but something not OK with the chorus, but that's the song's best part, so i like it. :)
For me, this album is a big return after the terrible Sense Of Purpose. Maybe, the electric samples are very in the background, but the album is AMAZING. :D

sorry, but i am disappointed by the album. nice guitar work as always, but anders' voice is badly produced and the drum work is just boring, almost no double bass or fast rythms. after every song i thought "is now coming a fast one" ?

@intruderGER i do agree with the production, the past few albums could sound so much better but the mastering quieted a lot of the guitars and power in the drums, with this aside, i love the album and knowing IF these songs will be EPIC live!

@intruderGER it's a good album, actually it's way better than ASOP, the reason why there are no fast songs in terms of drums, it's because it's more of a melodic album, i think this time all of the members agreed upon which direction to go musically speaking, you can hear a sense of harmony whithin all the instruments, it's a nicely done album

@intruderGER Anders vocals on this album is the best vocals iv'e heard so far. Sure there arent that much screams and growls like the other albums, but damn, the vocals are good! The drums are not boring, its the tightest and heaviest sound Daniel has ever had. And sure, there may be a lack of double bass, but does that make an song automatically good? And I guess you havent heard the whole album when you are saying that there is no fast ones. What about The Puzzle, Enter Tradegy, Darker times?

I liked the old vocals better. even on a sense of purpose it was better, he put more power into it and he wasn't "crying" the whole time. Maybe the drums sound good, but that's because they (as i hear) triggered. I didn't mean boring as how they sound, more like what is played, it feels some kind of empty with all those single bass, which is sure good in some rythms, but it's repeated too often on the new album. Still there are some faster songs, but overall the album is really slow.

@intruderGER Are you being serious? every song, minus the attic, has double bass in it. It may not be prolonged sections of constant double bass, but every track has double bass in it. If you want to hear mindless kick drumming, go listen to nile or necrophagist.

@RikkudoSennin I never said Kollias was bad at all, he's amazing. I said if that guy wants to hear non-stop mindless double bass, listen to Nile. Constant double bass and blasts beats are done by a million bands, it's nothing new and unoriginal. I much much much prefer In Flames to Nile. so the whole ">" thing is pointless to throw around as if it's a fact. It's merely your opinion, an opinion that more would disagree with than agree.

I said _almost_ no double bass drumming and I mean that compared to their previous albums, even ASOP had more. There is more and better on the old albums, as I said it feels kind of "empty" sometimes. But maybe that's just because I'm a drummer.
And by the way, Necrophagist is ten times more technical than In Flames.
Dont get me wrong, In Flames were my favourite band, but I think this changes now.

@intruderGER I'm a drummer also, and it surprises me that you don't understand sometimes less is more. There's no "emptiness", only appropriateness. And by the way, everyone knows Necrophagist is ten times more technical than In Flames. That's why i said to go listen to them, because that's obviously what you want to hear ;)

@intruderGER And one more thing, technicality doesn't mean much in my eyes when a band's songs all sound exactly the same and are written terribly. There's a difference between being technically good at an instrument and being able to write songs well, Necrophagist lacks the latter immensely.

Well, Necrophagist's guitarist composed both albums completely alone, so you can't await musical perfectness in every part. But this discussion should not end up in a battle between to bands.
Technicality is not the most important thing, but at least it keep songs interesting as theiy differ much more from others. Though it's not a must have to make good music.
I just critized In Flames' work on this new album, maybe I just have to get into it, but I listened to it four times now.
