  • 5 people have no hearts.....

  • ok now im crying.

  • :') so beutiful :') "though hell shoul bar the way" he for sure coming back :')

  • The best singer to come along since Enya.

  • @wwwlogionorg true

  • Try this experiment- listen to the beginning of this song, then listen to the theme to Angels in America by Thomas Newman.

  • My English teacher played this for us and it was so much easier to listen to and understand. I absolutely fell in love with it. It was weird at first, but when we realized what it was, I think everyone fell in love.

  • we listened to this in english after reading the highwayman and we watched other videos with this song in it.

  • Four hours......It took me Four hours to find this song....This song....it chills me and is the only song that i have ever heard that sets my mind to rest.

  • Beautiful voice!

  • So we did this song today for Music Journal and everyone thought it was stupid. Stupid to sacrifice yourself for true love. Thumbs up if you think that it was *NOT* a stupid song. It's actually very beautiful.

  • this is one of my all-time favorite songs. even though i was only a baby when it came out

  • I have to say this was the most romantic poem I've read.

  • lol

  • hi i am 14, i would like to apologize for what my generation has done to music. that is all.

  • @dragonblasted Well said. I'm also in the same boat as you

  • @dragonblasted your generation hasn't done shit yet bro

  • I am a 19 year old male and I listen to Loreena everyday..

  • @matt89grennon Listen, the best place to talk about yourself is on your own videos or maybe your Facebook profile or something. We really dont care what you're like...

  • My English Assignment is that I do a graphic novel of a poem. Guess what I'm doing? XD

It's fun to draw something that your listening to. :) Wish me luck, It's like, due tomorrow...

  • @pozolegirl

Hope it went well! No chance of you posting it on DeviantArt, is there?

  • @johnnyromani55 Maybe, if my computer will stop blocking it and let me get an account! XD And yes, it did go extremely well. :)

  • I think she should have put the verse with Tim the Ostler, because that way you know you ratted them out so the Red Coats knew he was going there at midnight. :P

    I still love this though....

And she also left out the LAST verse! Bess is the heroine in this story and she suddenly doesn't get her verse at the end of the song?! Come on!!!!!!!!!!

    Still love it....

  • With the right director, and the right screenwriters and cast, a movie would definitely work (just please keep any trace of the Twilight formula out of it!). Actually, I think I heard that one was made back in the 50s, but I'll need to check and see if I'm not just imagining things.

  • This song is just like his promise - never fails to return without tears in my eyes.Every time I listen to it, it reminds me of the innocence I once had. It's simply beautiful to me and romantic as a song can be.

  • I can't say it any better than the previous comments. This is one of those rare songs that can move a grown man to tears.

  • @biotek7x i fucked my cousin

  • we are still around bluewings

  • @kirbythebratt With the three point hats, capes and lace at the throat?

  • WAAAAAIT A SECOND!

The landlord's daughter's name is Bess? She has black hair?

Isn't Dick Turpin said to have ridden a horse....called Black Bess?! O.o

  • ...I have such a weakness for highwaymen.

  • this is the saddest story I've ever heard, and every time she breaks into the ghost story part, I break into tears.

  • I cannot express how much I love her music. Every element in each song speaks. It is because of her I fell in love with literature at a young age. Thank you, is all I can say..

  • i just wanted 2 say thank you to Mr. Golding,my literature teacher, 4 introducing me to this song/poem

  • This makes me so sad... The inn keeper's daughter kills herself to protect her lover, only for her lover to go avenge her and be killed himself... That is so sad but very sweet, in a way. I don't know very many men who would die for me and I know very few people I would die for. That is just so sad.

  • @XxXdeathlyangel01xXx Those men who wouldn't die for what they cherished are the men who haven't truly lived. I'd fear living that way yet ne'er scant a glance at death for those whom I care about. It's a shame it's such common practice to fear the inevitable and to forsake those close to us...

  • superbe ,just beautiful

  • This is such a sad song. My favorite poem and song. Why does the ending have to be so sad? ;(

  • @PrincessBenevolence Oedipus Rex, The King Arthur Legend, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, King Lear, The Raven, Annabel Lee, Women In Love...

The best works are the tragic ones.

    ;)

  • that's my favorite poem!

  • i love this song ah i officially love my reading class

  • lmao my class did too i was interested in it ...you kno its a good song when look it up on youtube haha

  • Love this song!

  • the book the mark of the golden dragon from the bloody jack series has an entire subplot turned real plot based on this song... i just finished it and had to come listen to this again :) so great

  • This woman's music is on the playlist of every Old Soul.

  • I remember in English class in 8th grade, we made a movie based on this poem. Good times, good times.

  • We have to listen to this song in school. It sounded retarded at first but then I started to like it.

  • @starfire56500 I wish they played this at school when i went

  • My 7th grade teacher used to play this in class all the time. Good memories.

  • the song brings tears 2 my eyes every time i hear it

  • I listened to the song and read the poem at school . I got a little emotional ..

  • this is so sad but not in the way that you would cry and i like the music

  • I keep seeing comments about how people read the story of this in school...I wish I had read the story in school. I'd never even heard of this until someone posted it on the Bloody Jack Fanpage on FB because they incorporated it into the Newest BJ book.

  • I missed studying this. It's such a beautiful poem <3

  • @MarioVespucci I know. I gave the reason why he became a criminal.

  • I love this song so much, it enchants me and I love the story it tells...

  • love this song/poem i just wished she put the whole poem in, but i still close my eyes and picture whats going on

  • i person hates poetry.

  • My literature teacher let us listen to this song today in class as we read along in our book. While the boys behind me laughed and joked paying no attention and some of my friends giggled and whispered not really listening, I sat there head down on my desk. Picturing every word. It all made so much sense to me. Your beautiful voice sung every line and intrigued me more and more with every word. I love the way you put so much passion into it. I love this so much!

  • @Princessloohoo its a very good song to listen to, but it also leaves out a vital part of the poem, and you probably realized this since you were reading it

  • @Princessloohoo LOL our class read that today too! Well, on a different day the yours but no one was really joking about it but my friend was late for school & he walked in during the poem. LOL his face was all O-o

  • @Princessloohoo Make sure you don't kiss those ignorant frogs Princess. You're too good for them!

  • @Princessloohoo You have a beautiful soul.

  • Comment removed

  • @Princessloohoo OH MY GOD!!! the same thing happened to me when my teacher played this in literature class! But some of the girls were actually listening, I mean come on, it's such a beautiful song! How could you not listen to it? It makes me sad every time I think of how my generation can't appreciate true art:(

  • @Princessloohoo my english teacher didn't play this song for us when we read the poem. :(

i was listening to the her CD and had a little moment

  • @Princessloohoo my teacher did the same thing... wait do you go to lance middle school?

  • @Palludore Nope sorry

  • @Princessloohoo me 2 except we read it yesterday. everyone was being stoopid but i liked it :)

  • @Princessloohoo is your teacher mrs.allen at arnold (7th grade)??

  • @Princessloohoo

Me too! I listened to this song last year, and i was watching a movie earlier today and i heard a song similar to this, and all of a sudden i remembered this and spend how long hunting it down. Its beautiful..

  • @Princessloohoo we listened to this song too and did the same and noone laughed because weve read the poem all week and i wanted to cry in the first version we listened but i didnt but in this one i cried. and this is my new favorite poem.

  • P.S.if u listin carefuly to the song its tellin a story, just sung...+listin to the word"moonlight"+its sayin the highwayman is a thef in love withBess,Besswas captured by red coats, she was tied up with a gun under her breasts,if she moved thegun would go off, when shesaw the mancomin, she pulld the triger&killed herself to warn her loverthe highwayman...he didnt no it wasBess at the windo that died, when he found out hecame ridin back, but was shot down by the red coats...inthe endthey becom ghosts

  • lol i read the story of highwayman in class today and we were comepareing this song and this one other song of hiway man the first made me almost fall asleep hehe but this one is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww BESS T^T

  • it is wonderfull i am a 11 year old and my music teacher played it for me and now i listen to it every day and some times makes me cry and i sing it off by heart

  • this is the song that my father played for me before bed every night when i was just a kid.

im 20 now. it still makes me feel happy.

  • Beautiful song. Sang it in seventh grade, Still singing it now. (:

  • I put this in a playlist on Autoplay so it repeats over and over

  • And I thought the STORY was good!

This is beautiful! I love this!

    She's so wonderful!

  • The song has a really sad story to it. I'm studying this poem in English and once you re-read it for about 3 times you really understand what the story is about. Poor highwayman.

  • and attack the soldiers because the soldiers are like bullies. ( After a long time of recovery when he was young). And at the end, he cam to an inn and found Bess.

since then, he visited her a lot usually at night. Tim wondered why Bess was so happy and nervous. So he had a thought and to see if it was, he stayed up late one night to see if anything happened with Bess. The Highwayman came and Tim was furious. Later, king soldiers came and you probably know the ending.

  • I got an idea as a movie. the Highwayman hate the soldiers of King George's predecessor. The reason is because the soldiers came to raid the Highwayman's house because they haven't paid their taxes. So the Highwayman's mother told the Highwayman( btw, he is around the age of 7 to 9) to run and then after a while, he finally run. his parents went back in to their house on the farm but he saw the soldier torched it as he was running away. years and years later, he tried all his best to annoy...

  • @dmagician34 Just an FYI: Highwaymen were criminals. Red coats killed criminals. That's pretty much what happened in this story.

  • @Greeneyedgrimkitty thats not entirely true. They made "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and then end of that is both boys dying.

  • I listened to this song when I was in English Lit class in high school. I fell in love with it and it wasn't until today that I found out who sings it! <3

    Love this song! XD

  • I sooooo love this song!!!

  • HELLO, HOLLYWOOD !!! .....FILMAKERS....PLEASE MAKE A MOVIE TO THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG...A TRUE EPIC FILM THAT COULD BE MADE, TAKEN FROM THIS WONDERFUL WRITTEN LOVE LOVE BALLAD. SO MUCH TRASH ON THE BIG SCREEN THESE DAYS....SO MANY POSSIBILITIES TO THIS SONG !!!

GREAT JOB... LOREENA. MY DAUGHTER AND I ENJOY YOUR TALENTED VOICE.

  • @dkfavs They couldn't, nowadays everything 'has' to have a happy ending. They'd never keep true to the ending.

  • @Greeneyedgrimkitty THANKS FOR THE COMENT!!!

IT ONLY TAKES {ONE} TO LISTEN.!!!!..NOT HEAR!!!! {THATS THE DIFFERENCE} HEARING OR LISTENING , COMMON SENSE AND A TRUE IMAGINATION TO KNOW TALENT.

LET THE BEAUTYOF THE MUSIC TELL THE STORY. AGAIN I ASK HOLLYWOOD....LISTEN.....

THIS GREAT SONGSTRESS AND LYRICS....MAKE FOR A GREAT EPIC FILM.....THANKS!!!! MAYBE SOMEDAY...

  • @dkfavs the closest they have come so far to it is a movie Called Punkett and Macleane. It stars Robert Carlyle (plunkett), Jonny Lee Miller (macleane) and Liv Tyler who is a chief justice's neice that becomes the Love interest of Macleane. It came out in 1999, and it's actually a pretty decent movie.

  • @dkfavs i agreeeee!!!!!!

  • My teachers cannot see why these songs are so spiritual. But yet I hear the meanings, and I am only 13.

  • Feh, I remember reading this in school. No one got it. Not even the teacher really understood the love the landlord's daughter had for the highway man to sacrifice herself in hopes of saving him.

  • I Love this Song.Thank you for Uploading. wish you well !!!

  • I love this! I just think it's a shame that a verse from the poem was missed out. :(

And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked Where Tim the ostler listened; his face was white and peaked; His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay, But he loved the landlord's daughter, The landlord's red-lipped daughter, Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say...

  • I love the poem this is based off of!! We read this in class today and almost all the girls were crying!

  • ooh i like the music the rythem

  • What about the stable boy, with hair like moldy hay? :( That was one of my favorite parts of the poem...

    Still, a beautiful song <3

  • I remember this poem from the 7th grade lol it gave me chills o-o

  • wonderfully done. If an angel could sing, it would sound like this.

  • just read the poem in my literature class and the song isnt bad

  • Holy heck, this gives me such chills....

  • of all places... Pandora radio suggested this song to me a couple of years ago and it has been a favorite (along w/the poem) ever since.. Nothing really compares or comes close

  • gyönyörű !!

  • How romantic! ;_; And amazing! I remember this poem- whenever I hear this song, I recall singing it with my friends back in middle school, when we were all kids. I could never get the lyrics right, and we'd end up stopping to go over them, and try singing it in rounds.

  • This song is the most metal thing I have ever heard.

  • @MrGogoZec ........That is the most bizarre comment I have ever seen.

But still. It's an awesome song of an awesome poem. *thinks. Wonder if I can translate the song to ASL.....

  • @Bippwatt I was thinking the exact same thing :-D This song would be both beautiful and tricky for ASL

  • @whysper03 Heh! Nice to see someone else sharing a similar thought.

  • to all who dont know this song is actualy a poem done by Alfred Noyes (1880-1958) Loreena just made into a song. Alfred Noyes published the poem August 1906. he was born in Wolverhampton, England.

  • this song put a scene in my head for my movie,"the battle for kalgeria" DON'T TAKE MY IDEA OR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!!!!

  • i love her voice and the music and the poem ....thank you

  • She really did visit a village where according to a folktale a knight was haunting and he came out at night searching for the one he loved. The locals said they heard his horse and they would lock their doors so he doesn't hurt them. She said she heard it too..

  • this song always gives me goosebumps

  • My English teacher in tenth grade played this song during class! I've loved it since. :)

  • ok,it's a beauitful song...but there must be a story behind the song?irish legend?

  • @goth2194 The song is actually a poem, called (you guessed it ) The Highwayman, by Alfred Noyes.

  • @goth2194 The way it talks about redcoats and King Gearge I think it is about the American Revolution.

  • Such a beautiful song... Sad, but beautiful. A beautiful poem sang by a beautiful voice, I'd say.

  • word for word what Alfred Noyes wrote, a turn of the century poet...left out just one verse but is exactly as he out it down so many years ago.....her voice, his words, sheer heaven!!!!!

  • whahahahaah this is so sad but so amazingly beautaful to -sniffs- dang it now im crying thank you for putting up this video ^^

  • @Ledementaurus

1 person got shot down in the highway, lying in his own blood.

  • class

  • I have always liked to listen to the Phil Ochs version of this epic poem with it's vastly-cutdown aspect; that said, a very nice girl named Barbara-Ann once drew my attention to Loreena and, as I have my firstlook at your post I am, rightly, and predictably amazed at the beauty and exquisite presentation that Loreena brings to this poem. Blown-Away would be a mild term. Thanks !

  • my teacher turned this on for us in his english class. when i first heard the slow rhythm at the beginning i knew it was going to be sad. its weird but i've always liked the stuff we do in there..like ill try to remember stuff from there..guess its a good thing..and this song is very touching..its soothing but sad..:( and her voice just goes along with it

  • Wonderful Haunting Song.

  • Meh. (I didn't choose like or dislike.)

  • @snickers99987 ummm... Even if she would been green with pink stripes that wouldnt change the situation to "not racist"... Im not implying that you are racist but im just saying that she would still be different color than you so thats not an example of "not being a racist"... Im just saying =/

  • I learned this at school last week. I have an assesment on it tomorrow. Help? Anyways, good song. Nice poem.

  • The lyrics in the FIRST line are gusty trees, GUSTY.

It is the poem in song form, why would the word change?

  • @MaandaaRaae It is gusty. I think they just made an error.

  • i clogged t this song once, check out my clogging vid, this song makes me think of tinker bell...........,pandafasha

  • One person is deaf... or listens to Justin Bieber :-D

  • love it! fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember learning this poem in 7th grade, i always thought it seemed haunting and almost magical, this songs just brings out those elements even more :)

  • i hate the 1 retard that dislikes this video

  • @bob23193 probally misclick :)

  • thnks for helping me with my home work X)

  • i wonder why she left those three verses out. they wouldn't have made the song much longer.

i still like her version very much, wonderfull voice and setting!

  • Comment removed

  • @Felidae08 true, and the verse about the ostler especially would have helped explain how the soldiers knew where they could trap the highwayman. I recall reading somewhere that she wanted the song to focus more on the tragedy of the lovers, though, and as you said, the setting and her voice are just phenomenal.

  • Awesome Video I saw This In Class Today!

  • i listen to this in english class. SO CALMING.....I LOVE IT

  • I hated all poems..I came across this one in school and this is the 1st poem i actually like.

  • Good song....I like how it tells a story.....She has such a beautiful voice!

  • @bellasara4 it's from a very popular poem called the Highwayman, Alfred knowls I think...

  • @afterdavit

I know, I've read it. And even so, she put it to just the right music.

  • @bellasara4 it's from a very popular poem called the Highwayman, Alfred noyes think...
