  • Lemieux was SICK in his prime. If it weren't for injuries, I think he'd be within 200-500 of Gretzky

  • @NessMencesal what do you mean??? he could have passed Gretzky in only 2nd gear if he didn't have the injuries.

  • Wow these homer announcers suck

  • This game hard to watch. North Stars were wild card team that year I think. They did very well.

  • This was like the senate race between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle.

  • I don't care what anybody says the 1991 Pitssburgh Penguins had the most explosive offense ever. The way they passed and scored made watching hockey exciting. In all fairness i don't think even the 80's Oilers Dynasty could play as good as this team. I believe Lemieux is a better player than Gretzky and would have surpassed all his records had he had the luck that Gretzky had. Not to say Wayne wasn't good but Mario was way better.

  • @sakusia i disagree, respectfully

  • Jardaaa Jaaaagr ;-)))))

    rookie year !

  • 2011 - 2012 Are year :-)

  • did he say oh you can sit on my monkey after the ron francis goal? what does that mean?

  • @pat442389 "Oh she wants to sell my monkey", a classic Langeism.

  • 1sun

  • mike lange's crazy ass got kicked off of t.v. but he still does the local radio play by play. you just have to turn the tv down and crank the radio!!!105.9!! OH SCRATCH MY BACK WITH A HACKSAW!!!!!

  • @serveone211

You know the reason he was kicked off TV? It's because he was too "neutral" for FSN. He just loves hockey, and regardless of what team he's affiliated with, he still shows excitement even when the other team makes a good play. You could tell he was disappointed, but in 2008, when the Wings beat the Pens for the Cup, he called it with enthusiasm on the radio. Most local announcers would call it in a depressed voice. Steigerwald was the homer that FSN wanted, unfortunately.

  • @SuperTugz i was surprised to find out he wasnt from pgh.maybe thats why he isnt "destroyed" if we lose. either way i grew up listening to him and stagerwald me and my friends even shouted his catchphrases out playing street hockey till midnite i was 10 in '91

  • @serveone211

People are also surprised when they learn that Lange called a few games nationally on ESPN in the 80s.

  • i would take mike lange over john shorthouse as the canucks play by play man anyday

  • recchi seen at 10:40, fast forward 20 years and he's got another

  • I remember watching this live and this was surely a great way to win the cup. Go Pens!!

  • This Pens team could take on any team EVER.

  • Poor Casey... worst night of his career

  • 20 year anniversary today:)

  • amazin! pit!

  • Modano and Recchi in 1991.

    Crazy stuff.

  • 00:30 ...what a play by Murphy, great finish by Lemieux.

  • Minn had the worst regular season record of all 16 teams to make the playoffs in 1991 and made it to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. So, the North Stars deserve a lot of credit for how well they played but the lopsided turnout of this deciding game shows what a great and superior team that the Penguins were in that playoff season.

  • I've seen this so many times but good lord. We raped them!

  • sad north stars goalies lost it that night and it sucks

  • HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.................LOL

  • HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.................

  • I'm a native Minnesotan and was a hockey kid from kindergarten (i.e. mites and on). I remember watching this series non stop on MSN (i.e. Midwest Sports Network). Is it me, or was this almost like watching an NHL all star team versus a high school team? The Penguins being the NHL all star team.

  • How did the North Stars get to the Finals with this goaltending? Although I do remember Jon Casey being pretty good. He never gets brought up these days.

  • @CtrlRm Personally, I always liked Don Beaupre better than Casey.

  • Mario, Francis, Mullen, Jagr, Murphy, Barrasso, Coffey, and maybe Recchi should all be in the HOF some day. The scary thing is the '92-93 team was even better even though the Isles pulled off the upset.

  • Malkin and Crosby are like the new Jagr and Lemieux

  • she wants to sell my monkey!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Penguins should bring these uniforms back. They look way better than what the wear now.By the way Minnesota were amazing this season too.Miss those jerseys as well.

  • This commentator is Gold after a goal..just a riot!

    1. Wow look at that Pittsburgh lineup! And I thought Washington was an offensively gifted team

    2. Man I now appreciate how good the tactics and competitiveness the NHL has per player, especially when it comes to goaltending and defense

  • heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee shooots n scores :)

  • 9 hall of famers on that Penguins team.

  • and people think the capitals are better pshhh my ass

  • 2:47, what are they talking about? After it hit the skate, doesn't the puck hit Errey's stick before going in?

  • @jessc1979 yes it definetly did, i guess they didnt catch that

  • The game announcers are annoying!

  • Close game...

  • @GmanGregilla for the 1st two minuets

  • @StFidjnr Exactly. lol. Hardly at all.

  • LETS GOOOO PENS!!!

  • I was 11 years old watching this in minnesota. twins just won the world series. that was my TEAM. they failed us though. i will always be a North Stars fan.....

  • I was 11 years old watching this in minnesota. that was my TEAM. they failed us though. i will always be a North Stars fan.....

  • She wants to sell my monkey...lmao!!!

  • I remember seeing that game live when I just entered my 20s....man I'm old...

  • Worst game I ever watched. Ya Im a Stars fan. My buddy was a Pens fan and we were in grade 6. We agreed not to rub it in no matter who won. Ya right. All over my locker and the chalk board in the morning, well, you can imagine.

  • You know that the Civic Arena would have gone mad if the Pens would have done this @ home. It sucked that all three Cups were won on the road.

  • @redoctober90 woow that was a shootout on the northstars 8 to nothing woow my biggest respect the pens had a real biigtime team back then many great players and the pens were a real team no solo artists like ovechkin today.you need to be a team to get that far and win the CUP.surely Mario was the Brain the engine from this team

  • lol@ macgyver

  • The Penguins had two great all around teams in the early 90's

  • lol eddie spagetti

  • NORM SUCKS

  • lmao she wants to sale my monkey!!!

  • BRING BACK THE MEMORIES!I ts was first ever live Stanley Cup finals in Czechoslovakian TV !!..It was in original ,straight from US tv ,I understood only names back than ,but I loved it!..I was watching till 7 am our time ,as a 15 years old.Did not even go to school after ....I am crying now,..We all grew up with Jagr :-)

  • why did this team only win 2 cups? They look invincible.

  • @jaythefiddler I wish I knew....it didn't help Barasso got hurt and Lemieux's health failed him

  • @jaythefiddler

They woulda won a 3rd in '93 but were upset by the Islanders in the playoffs.

'94 was kind of an off year.

    Lemieux didn't play in '95.

They had a chance in '96 but were upset in the conference finals.

By '97 they were flat lining a little and Lemieux retired after than season.

Bottom line they could have won more but choked a few times, and Lemieux's injuries/cancer were tough obstacles.

  • Comment removed

  • I hate to say this as a Capitals fan but the Penguins had two great all around teams in 91 and 92 and at the Capitals expense

  • The fucking 90's. classic crack every time theirs a goal

  • you cant beat mike lang no one can

  • The North Stars had one hell of a run in 1991.It would have been nice if it had gone at least 7,but the North Stars had finally ran out of gas on that night and not to mention that Pittsburgh were stacked from top to bottom.

  • He beat him like a rented mule!!! Fucking classic.

  • not enough joe mullen vids on youtube

  • That second Pittsburgh goal by Lemieux is unbelievable. This guy's skill level was from another planet.

  • @leafyutube Watch his goal in game 2 (i think...?), the famous 1-2 split on Wilkinson and Chambers

  • lol Awkward cup grab by samuelsson at the beginning of the captains skate.

  • Thats crazy how Lemieux is also a fast skater on top of everything else.

  • macgyver!

  • the goalie for the north stars sucks so much..

  • What ever happens to the Nothern Stars???

  • @3pppz The team period? Or in this game?

In this game, I think they ran out of gas, they were the 4 seed in the Norris.

The team moved to Dallas, Texas after the 1992-93 season to become the Dallas Stars

  • @3pppz they became the Dallas Stars

  • ...That '91 team was pretty stacked.

  • Greatest announcer in any sport (except MAYBE his mentor, Bob Prince.). PERIOD. WHY THE HELL DID FOX SPORTS CAN HIM?!

  • Lemieux is good n so r the penguins but they only won it that yr because of him.

  • @kobbio22 HHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Wowwwwwwwwwwww. Unfuckingreal

  • the pens may have won the cup but this was a weak stars team that ran the tables as a 4 seed out of the norris with 67 total points during the season. in todays standards that is good for a 7th seed. yes the pens won and dominated game 6. but it was a heck of the a run for the stars and 1 great winter for stars fans at the met center

  • @mcommander1973 indeed not even a 7th seed the last team under .500 in the Finals and they were like .450

  • "he beat casey like a ridded mule" i love it.

  • @hockeyguy38 rented not ridded

  • Jagr and Lemieux together was just amazing

  • @razorslice17 that pens team was just fuckin unbelievable.....and im a caps fan

  • oh *this* game. what a shellac-ing... and lange cracked me up

  • 19th anniversary. woooooo

  • lemieux is great :) (LL)

  • This has to be one of the worst beatings ever in cup history...the north stars should not have been born.

  • @ARmirzaful like you, you shouldn't have been born either

  • wow Recchi was 23 years old then and is still producing in the playoffs for the Bruins at age 42.

  • Lemieux got his team to the cup in 2009 and won WOOT

  • he beat casey like a rented mule

  • This is hockey played the way it should be.

  • Lange Rules! Stiegerwald Blows!

  • the one liners this guy has are a hoot.....is he calling games?

  • @roblau004 yes he still calls them on the radio. hes quite famous in pittsburgh. mike lang.

  • @roblau004

Mike Lange still does Pen games on the radio. He did TV too until 2007.

His partner here is Paul Stiegerwald, and he is now the TV announcer with Bob Errey.

  • @roblau004 its mike lange he calls on 105.9 in pittsburgh

  • Sick game. This series was so even, everyone thought it would be a 7-game series and then the penguins win 8-0. How da hell did that happend? How can you lose 8-0 in such an important game? I'm not complaining, I'm a Pens fan but it sure is weird.

  • :58 Worst shirt EVER

  • FSN pittsburgh should still have mike lange he is AWESOME!

  • I'm so relieved to know that the Pirates beat the Phillies 4-2

  • Watch out with MacGyver at 7:52.

  • I remember no one could believe that the Northstars could make it that far in 91. But out of all the Retro teams the Northstars were the only ones to make it to the finals. The Nordiques, Jets, Whalers never came close

  • Now I only got to 01:49 on this thing when I posted, but didn't the Pens win this like 8-0?

  • @usteeler81 Yep

  • I shutter to think what Robocop would've done had the ref not caught hold of his jersey and pulled him down.

  • Mike Lange is awesome, you douchebag.

  • MINNESOTA NORTH STARS SUCK

    GO PENS

  • unbelievable cinderella year for minnesota, only a record of 27-39-14 and they went all the way to game 6 of the finals, just goes to show anything can happen in the playoffs!

  • I remember when Mario was drafted and overnight season ticket sales rocketed. Later in the late '80s, the knock on Lemieux (by the national media) was that he never won a cup. Then the amazing trade with Hartford to get Francis and all the pieces fell into place. Thanks for saving hockey in Pittsburgh Mario!

  • Thanks for the video! I remember listening to this game on the radio in the sticks of PA. No cable... This is my first time to actually see the goals that I heard.

  • I know everyone talks about the Oilers and Islanders of the 80's, but couldn't the pens have been the best "team" ever? Lemieux,Jagr,Ron Francis, Kevin Stevens, Joe Mullen, Bryan Trottier, Mark Rechhi, Paul Coffey, Larry Murphy, Ulf Samuelleson, Tom Barasso, all of them either in the Hockey Hall of Fame or will be there in time. Just something to think about.

  • @SuperBanesta that is a very, very good point. its crazy to think how much talent was on that team, will there ever be a team with that much raw talent ever again? probably not....

  • @cibobary8766 mario was rasing cam neeley's cup that night....

  • @romans52345 what do you mean by that generic pun?

  • @cibobary8766 you know exactly what i mean.....the pens never stood a chance against the bruins that year and then ulf hit cam (which led to cam's early retirerment and due to the fact that ulf along with pittsburgh are a bunch of gutless cowards) and put him out of the series...

  • @romans52345 no way, if boston was so much better then how do you explain 7-2 in game 5? I'm pretty sure boston lost that series cause after ulf hurt cam milbury spent the rest of the time bitchin(which was a stupid hit but you can't call the rest of the team gutless cowards for what one player did, a player that should be expected to do dirty shit like that. I'm pretty sure coming back from chemotherapy to finish a season shows more guts than the majority of people on this earth will ever have)

  • @romans52345 cam neely wouldn't have single handedly stopped the pens either, player for player they were just a flat out better team. o and look who got swept by the pens the very next year in the prince of wales finals.

  • @cibobary8766 well what ulf did to cam hurt the whole team in more ways then one...which caused the loss the following year...i do not feel that ulf was the mastermind behind that hit i'm sure that pens coach bob johnson ordered it...and it's so strange that johnson died a few months later of cancer....karma is a bitch isn't it......

  • @romans52345 badger bob was nothing but a humble, genuinely nice person. you're a fucking asshole for relating that hit to bob dying of cancer. keep whining about a series that took place almost 20 years ago. ulf was a dirty player and did stuff like that his whole career, to think that ulf did that out of anyone's suggestion other than his own is idiotic, ignorant, and just preposterous. go fuck yourself you piece of shit.

  • @cibobary8766 you don't know what you are talking about olbland3768...if bob johnson was such a nice person...he would of told his team to give up the series and the whole playoffs after ulf made that hit and said you do not deserve to win a cup after such a dirty play....if my team is gonna win the cup they are gonna do it without cheating but no he just let it slide i think he is the piece of shit not me......

  • @romans52345 you might be the dumbest mother fucker I've ever talked to. Give up the series because of a dirty play a gritty player made? You don't understand competition and you'll never understand what it means to be a coach. Yes you could possibly sit Ulf down for the rest of the playoffs but not the whole team. You're just mad because Cam's career was cut short and now your taking it out on someone who's coaching career was cut short, you're a fucking hypocrite and a biased imbecile.

  • @cibobary8766 god damn right he should bench the whole team the rest of the year....pittsburgh had a better team than boston that year.....HAHAHAHAHAHA that is hilarious....i have disproven all your fabricated facts...so go dig up bob johnson and make love to his pathetic corpse....

  • @romans52345 Cheating? the hit you're most likely thinking of was incidental contact after ulf and neely went for a loose puck in open ice, ulf planted his knee, which is a dick thing to do, and neely went flying. he stayed in the game after this hit. Now according to cam neely himself this is not the hit that started the deterioration of his thigh and knee. he claims it was another hit where he tried to hit ulf and ulf jammed his knee up, and into neely's thigh. find me footage of that hit....

  • Comment removed

  • @romans52345 And another thing Mario had 6 points in the first 3 games of that series. Neely didn't shut him down before getting wrecked and the Bruins didn't shut him down for the rest of the series. Even in their wildest dreams Neely and the B's couldn't have stopped Mario, who by the way missed 58 regular season games due to back surgery that year. He ended up with 15 points against the Bruins that year and next year put up 8 in 3 games against the B's after missing game 1 of a 4 game sweep.

  • @romans52345 Ray Pork couldn't stop Mario on his BEST day LMFAO that's why he had to get traded to the Avalanche and have Roy and Sakic win the fucking thing for him... Don Cherry sucks COCK that's why Ulf ruined Kneely because Con Cherry doesn't shut his cocksucking mouth about BASHING the PENS. That's why Cooke finished Marc Savard off too. Con Cherry should shut his racist fucking mouth UP or Engelland will finish off CHARA next time!!! Bruins = EPIC FAILURE!!!

  • @StaalRulz2010 AND THE UNCROWNED STANLEY VUP CHAMPIONS OF 1991 THE BOSTON BRUINS.....and it is because of that pice of shit low life ulf who should have got criminal charges against him and the penguins should have automaticly been disqualified from the Stanley cup playoffs....

  • @HBK344356 LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Classic whining, gotta love it! If ANY team should be whining it is the Sabres who got robbed with the foot in the crease rule. Face it, Con Cherry had what was coming to him by calling Lemieux every name in the book. He was always jealous of Lemieux because Ray Pork couldn't stop him on his best day. Bruins were a 3-man team. Always have been, always will be. After this season when they lose again, they will get rid of half of their roster like always.

  • @StaalRulz2010 we are not talking about Sabers we are talking about the second greatest team in the history of the NHL the Boston Bruins (the first being Detroit) Well Don was right in calling Lemuix all those names because he is not a good Hockey Player...

  • @HBK34435Guess your spelling of the Toronto Maple Leafs is poor. Who has the most cups, next to Montreal? It just amazes me where some people get their logic... Dude, Boston sucks. Harry Sinden is the main reason and we all know that. Your arguments sound like a crackhead's... Boston will dump everyone decent on their roster after this season and Tim Thomas is a flash in the pan, although I like the guy as a person, he has no style, hybrid nor butterfly.

  • @StaalRulz2010 I'm not a Bruins fan, but do you still think Thomas is a "flash in the pan?"

  • @CtrlRm Well, I think any goalie who has the top Defenseman in the league can get by on most nights. What will be critical, are the next 2 games against Montreal. We all know that Montreal always finds a way to beat them and Montreal has been ALL over them in that series. Thomas is due for a horrendous game. It will come. Probably in Game 6 or dare I say, 7? hahhaa.

  • @HBK344356 You don't seem to know anything about NHL history if you think that...

  • @romans52345 oh and if karma's a bitch, then hopefully you'll get cancer sometime soon for making ridiculous comments about one of the greatest coaches in hockey history.

  • @cibobary8766 AMEN!!!

  • @romans52345 HHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bruins are LOSERS and always will be!!! You don't think the Pens would have beat the B's with Kneely playing???!!! They were a 4-5 man team including Ray Pork, Kneely and Oates... Other than that Joe Juneau the pocket scientist... LMFAO... Bruins are losers and will Fall to Montreal AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @romans52345 Mario was icing his back before the game. And if Ray Pork made an ATTEMPT to stop Mario on that Breakaway. OH RATS! HE sucks at defence!!! He was an overrated DEFENCEman and was only good at getting shots through and getting Neely to bang in the rebound so he could pick up an assist... Gretzky AND Lemieux used to burn that fag every other game... Chara is 10x the defenseman he is AT DEFENSE. Pork is top 10 all time as an OFFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN but that's about it. Ruins choke

  • LET'S GO MONTREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "He Shoots & Scores Scratch my Back with a Hacksaw!"

  • Mike Lange, truly an iconic announcer !!

  • Thank you. I was out of the country that day and missed this game. I've never seen all 8 goals before.

  • the Pens are getting rid of the blue jersey, and will have a new third jersey this should be the new third jersey these jerseys kick ass, I dont know why the Pens ever changed from these to the logo that Stan Savarn said looke like a flying pigeon lol

  • Wow, that was just utter domination.

  • is this in slow motion or were the players just this slow? and the goalie looks like a twig compared to now..game looks easier back then

  • Mario Lemieux.... best since Bobby Orr.

  • The North Stars were up 2 GAMES on the Pens in this series... and "NHL'S MOST LOPSIDED STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP GAME-CLINCHING VICTORY IN HISTORY, WHICH SHALL NEVER BE BROKEN EVER" also holds the title for " WORST EXPLANATION OF A RECORD " in NHL history as well! ...Crazy hockey stats...

  • The PITTSBURGH PENGUINS scoring EIGHT SuperNova'd the North Stars making them disappear in shame as a black hole signifying this as "NHL'S MOST LOPSIDED STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP GAME-CLINCHING VICTORY IN HISTORY, WHICH SHALL NEVER BE BROKEN EVER."

  • sorry ass stars

  • Ha she wants 2 sell my monkey

  • It was nice to know we were gonna win the cup by the time the 3rd period started. XD Last year's game 7 was just as sweet but a hell of a lot more nerve wracking!

  • fuck you norm green

  • was casey in the whole game?

  • they put in Brian Heyward

  • then to my recollection they put casey back in...

  • they're wrong. it hit the north star's skate and then errey put it in.

  • Lemieux = best hockey player ever period.

  • @sofakingrate Yep!

  • @sofakingrate 2nd best, wayne gretzky is better

  • @PrairieThunderFan1 Debatable tbh. While Gretzky has like a bajillon ponts, Lemieux was hurt half his career, took 1994-95 off as well as 1997-2000, and played his first five years without major protection, which came in the form of Ulf Samuelsson via trade from Hartford. Plus he also played until 87 (when Coffey came over) without a strong supporting cast. Gretzky had McSorley and Semenko protecting him, as well as a cast including Messier and Kurri

  • @PrairieThunderFan1 Mark Messier > Lemieux

  • @CtrlRm same thing...give messier cancer, let's see him win all those cups

  • @PrairieThunderFan1 let's see wayne gretzky put up HALF those numbers while battling fucking cancer

  • @Thorntonator19 im not saying mario lemieux wasnt bad player at all, he is ONE of many hockey gods out there. i know him battling cancer was tough, but its my opinion man.

  • @PrairieThunderFan1 likewise

  • greatest announcer ever thats what mike lange is

  • @Banks6083

"heeee beats him like a rented mule!"

    Classic!

  • Wow...these announcers are...something. Something...

  • mike lange,he has his own top 10
