NONE were trained in Iraq. Little to no funding came from Iraq or people of Iraqi origin. The funding was largely Saudi and the training was carried out in the tribal region along the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. These are not difficult facts to check, if one has the slightest bit of curiosity.

There were Al Qaeda cells in every country in the world prior to our invaision of Iraq, including our own. The issue only becomes relevant if the country in question was providing sanctuary or assistance, which Iraq was not. Al Qaeda is a fundamentalist Islamic group that seeks to install Wahabist Suni Islamic law. Hussein was a secular, military dictator ruling a fragile Suni/Shia state. Al Qaeda operatives were there to stir the pot and then seize power during the resulting chaos.

Individuals in Iraq may have contributed, but so did individuals in the US and Canada. Osama Bin Laden was very vocal in his criticism of the secular, totalitarian leadership in Iraq. It was his stated goal to overthrow Saddam Hussein and replace him with an Islamic theocracy, similar to Iran's. Thanks to our invasion, he is one step closer to his goal.

It has historically meant not terrorism, but a full scale miltary asault by a Islamic theocracy with the intent of destroying a secular government and replacing it with an Islamic one.
